Chapter 770: Chapter 760: Strange Sounds

Xihong City temporary medical center, inside a private ward.

A Demon Hunter with black hair had a breathing apparatus on his face, exhaling more air than he inhaled, looking like he was about to die at any moment.

There sat a vase on the table, the flowers within had already wilted.

His condition had persisted for about seven or eight days, and at first, the nurses were worried that he might suddenly pass away, but now they hardly paid any attention to him.

This person was Wen Wen...

No, it was Bai Wu disguised as Wen Wen.

While Wen Wen was absorbing the Energy of the Cicada Ancestor, he couldn’t afford to control Bai Wu’s actions, so he let Bai Wu disguise himself as himself unconscious from severe injuries, thus avoiding giving away any flaws due to Bai Wu’s actions.

The body that Bai Wu disguised, until it received damage sufficient to be fatal, would behave just like a living organism, so the doctors of the Hunters Association didn’t notice anything odd.

Suddenly, the window was opened, and the Demon Hunter on the bed transformed into a mist and vanished, replaced by a figure with a sinister smile on his face—it was Wen Wen’s real body coming back.

Wen Wen retracted the mist and then saw a letter placed within Bai Wu’s body.

This letter was left by Wu Liugen, and after a few glances, Wen Wen crumpled it into a ball and tossed it into a wastebasket, where the crumpled paper spontaneously ignited.

Wu Liugen had realized that this mist body was a fake, and even used his powers to reinforce it for Wen Wen.

Originally, Wen Wen’s body was just unconscious, but after Wu Liugen’s reinforcement, it ended up in critical condition two or three times a day...

In the letter, Wu Liugen mentioned he had reached an agreement with the Hunters Association, that the coming period would be a golden era for Buddhism’s development, hence he needed to stay in the south.

He speculated that Wen Wen sneaking out must be for the same reason as him—to reap some benefits, and if Wen Wen didn’t mind, he could come to the southern Buddhism site and share the benefits they had obtained.

Additionally, he had erected a small statue for Wen Wen inside the temple...

Had Wu Liugen not mentioned the statue, Wen Wen might have arranged collaboration between the Foundation and Buddhism, but now those plans were ruined, turned to nothing!

After leaving a stack of bills on the bed, Wen Wen once again left through the window, returning to his room in a skyscraper at the center of Xihong City.

Back there, Wen Wen found a Demon Hunter to catch up on what had occurred with the ’Cicada’ event and the Fallen Angel event during his "unconscious" period.

Catastrophe-Level battles had destroyed parts of the city, but fortunately, most areas were still intact.

After simple repairs, they could relocate the displaced citizens back and then alter their memories accordingly.

Glory Church had suffered severe losses, gaining very little, suggesting it might not recover for the next decade or two, and it probably wouldn’t stir up more trouble any time soon.

The Black Cross that Wen Wen had conjured still stood on the sea, concealed by the Hunters Association through special methods, waiting to dissipate naturally.

In the Capital District, there were also two other major events happening: one was an undead calamity caused by a cross-border tunnel in a southwestern province, and the other was an ancient weapon challenging the Hunters Association on an Eastern Sea Island.

The undead calamity had no Catastrophe-Level experts appearing yet, but these undead were tricky and very hard to kill, hence the ongoing standstill.

The secret organization on the Eastern Sea Island wasn’t worth mentioning, but the ancient weapon was comparable to a Catastrophe-Level expert.

These two events had emerged before the first Cicada caused trouble, but they still hadn’t been resolved, tying up substantial resources from the Capital Association.

However, despite the shortage of manpower there, Wen Wen had no intention of getting involved. He had just experienced a life-threatening crisis and had only recently advanced in power, needing some relatively peaceful time.

He needed to adjust his mindset in order to pursue excitement in a better state.

In the next two days, Tao Qingqing had been helping with the recovery efforts in Xihong City. She had become proficient at her job, resembling a seasoned Demon Hunter, and the vampire essence in her was growing fainter.

Actually, Wen Wen did not want to stay in Xihong City. The city was still in a state of emergency, lacking even a single place to enjoy hotpot or fried skewers, and there were no victims for him to tease.

But the plane Wen Wen had ordered in the US and Canada District was completed and due for delivery in these two days, and the delivery location was Xihong City, so Wen Wen had to wait patiently.

During these days, Wen Wen had been focusing on that private Judgement video.

Having not checked it for several days, Wen Wen noticed that the number of voters had dropped to around ten thousand. The rest were removed from access to the daily Judgement videos through technical means.

These ten thousand people basically believed whatever the Arbiter said, and their attitudes were extremely radical.

It had been seven or eight days since Wen Wen last logged in, and the fact that he could still be here was surely because he had been among the harshest critics in the past few days...

His radicalism was not because he agreed with the Arbiter’s methods.

Wen Wen might intervene if he encountered some situations himself, but he would definitely not seek public opinion.

He was just interested in this private Judgement, wanting to see what would happen in the end.

Wen Wen had a hunch that the Arbiter would not simply process the scum honestly and would definitely pull some tricks eventually.

If nothing happened, Wen Wen wanted to meet this Arbiter.

After becoming a Demon Hunter, there were very few ordinary people who could pique Wen Wen’s interest like this.

Last night’s Judgement involved a man with a terminal illness, who, believing he was beyond help, decided to take revenge on society. He drew his blood with a syringe and secretly injected it into the fruits and vegetables at a supermarket.

Wen Wen, through his Demon Hunter privileges, checked the man being interrogated and found that what the Arbiter had claimed was mostly true, so he cast a vote for death too.

In the end, the man was killed in a rental room, murdered by the syringe he often used.

On a table beside him lay all the evidence of his crimes, waiting for the day when his body would be discovered—another case that would cause an uproar.

Suddenly, Wen Wen’s Ranger Terminal rang. After answering the call, a hint of joy appeared on his face.

He reached out, flicked Three Cubs on the head, and said, "Let’s go, I’m going to meet my new wife."

Three Cubs shook its head, puzzled by what Wen Wen intended to do, but still obediently climbed onto Wen Wen’s shoulder to serve as a scarf.

As Wen Wen walked to the door, he suddenly heard a voice.

"Wen Wen... Wen Wen!"

"Come here... find me..."

At this voice, Wen Wen’s expression instantly darkened. It was that voice again.

"Who are you?"

But, just like the first time he heard this voice, his question went unanswered, filling the air with an oppressive aura.

Such a sudden statement wasn’t happening to Wen Wen for the first time, and he did not intend to endure it this time.

"I don’t know what you want from me, but if you’re just trying to spook me..."

"I’ll stuff a giant sky rocket up your ass and send you twirling up to heaven to turn into the most beautiful firework in the sky!"
