Chapter 769: Chapter 759: Catastrophe Zone

The words of the man in the black robe sounded like he was delivering his last words, giving Wen Wen an uneasy feeling.

He wanted to ask for clarity, but the other party didn’t give him the chance.

As the stairs were about to stop, Wen Wen shook his head, casting aside the jumble of thoughts for the moment.

He could think about the man in the black robe later; what was most important now was to see what surprises the Catastrophe Zone had in store for him.

When the stairs finally came to a halt, Wen Wen found himself in a dark space, where a pair of slightly glowing green eyes suddenly appeared, curiously watching him.

Startled by those eyes, Wen Wen instinctively snapped his fingers, and a strong light burst forth from between them.

"Wow!"

The owner of the eyes cried out in distress, covering his eyes and spinning in place several times.

With the light from his fingers, Wen Wen got a clear view of the person.

It was a somewhat emaciated young man in a black robe, with shoulder-length slightly curly black hair that looked like it hadn’t been cut for quite some time, yet it didn’t seem slovenly; instead, there was an inexplicably refreshing feel about him.

It was probably because he was handsome...

The clothes on him were essentially the opposite of a Guide’s, with a skewed black halo on his back.

After a brief pause, the young man looked at Wen Wen with eyes that were slightly yellowed.

"Sorry, it’s been over a thousand years since I’ve seen the light, got a little shocked there. Are you the new owner of the Sanctuary?"

Wen Wen nodded; the Central Guardian of the fourth layer was somewhat different than he had imagined, and Wen Wen was still trying to figure out the guy’s temperament.

"Um... I suppose so."

"My name is Mo Gong, nicknamed the Demi-demon Fiend. That’s what my friends in the Jianghu call me."

Nickname?

Friends in the Jianghu?

What the heck was this person?

Before coming to the Catastrophe Zone, Wen Wen had speculated about what Mo Gong might look like, expecting either a domineering presence or a heaven-towering demonic aura, yet he hadn’t expected such a nonchalant appearance.

Could this seemingly delicate young man really be the one the Guide had been wary of all along?

Moreover, he was more forthright than the previous Central Administrators, immediately revealing his name and nickname.

Mo Gong circled around Wen Wen excitedly, saying, "You have Bai Du’s scent on you. If that brat shows up again, just let me know, and I’ll tear him apart for you."

Wen Wen was startled; Mo Gong could actually detect Bai Du’s scent on him directly.

Instinctively probing Mo Gong’s strength, the result was... Catastrophe Level!

Mo Gong was actually a Catastrophe-Level Expert!

The previous Central Administrators had once been Catastrophe-Level Experts, too, but they had fallen from that realm due to an event in the past.

Yet Mo Gong still retained Catastrophe-Level strength. Either he had never contributed his strength to the Sanctuary, or he retained Catastrophe-Level strength even after making his contribution!

Had he originally been a Spiritual Realm God?

Wen Wen remained silent for a while before asking Mo Gong the question he cared about most, "What exactly is your relationship with Bai Du?"

Mo Gong rubbed his head, "In terms of complexity, our relationship is actually quite complicated. My life form is different from humans, born with Demonic Divine Power. As the strength grew stronger, the two powers would grind against each other..."

"To put it simply... it’s like I have a split personality. I cut the split spirit in two and made the obstinate half into a separate entity, banishing it out."

"Luckily, it only took away part of my Divinity and an insignificant amount of divine power, so it’s not much of a threat."

After listening to Mo Gong’s words, Wen Wen realized the relationship between Mo Gong and Bai Du was much like what he had previously speculated; they could be considered one, yet they could also be seen as two distinct individuals.

Furthermore, Wen Wen could seek Mo Gong’s advice when Wen Wen tried to create his own doppelganger in the future.

After chatting for a while and gaining some understanding, Mo Gong began to show Wen Wen around the Catastrophe Zone.

The number of prison cells in the Catastrophe Zone was not large, only one hundred, but each cell was very spacious, with each being at least the size of a football field.

According to Mo Gong, although there were a hundred cells, only ten could be activated at the same time.

The reason for having an extra ninety cells was due to the diversity of Catastrophe-Level Experts; a single cell could not guarantee the containment of every Catastrophe-Level Expert.

For those Catastrophe-Level beings of enormous size, a cell expanded in space was necessary, while for those adept at attack, the cell’s strength needed to be reinforced.

Once a prisoner was confined in a cell of the Catastrophe Zone, it could not be opened as casually as before; nor could the prisoners be used as tools as on the lower levels. The sole purpose here was the containment of threats.

Seeing nothing particularly novel, Wen Wen lost interest, until Mo Gong led him to a metal door that was more ornate than the others, leaving Wen Wen slightly puzzled, "What is this place?"

"This is the private space of the owner of the Sanctuary. Inside are the living quarters, office, conference room, and a practice room..."

Wen Wen’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, and he pushed the door open and went in, while Mo Gong stood at the doorway and did not follow him inside.

"This place is for you alone, and those you permit to enter. You can also monitor every corner of the Sanctuary from the office. You go ahead and look around; I’m going to do my duty."

After saying his piece, Mo Gong turned and left.

Wen Wen watched Mo Gong’s retreating figure and rubbed his head.

Out of all the Central Administrators, Mo Gong seemed to have the best attitude, but Wen Wen always felt that he was different from the other Administrators, as if there was an inexplicable gap between him and the Sanctuary.

Afterward, Wen Wen beamed and wandered around his private space.

Wen Wen speculated that the previous owner of the Sanctuary might have been a ’heavenly god,’ or at the very least, a very powerful entity from the Spirit Realm, so there might be some valuable items in his private space.

However, to Wen Wen’s disappointment, aside from a bunch of antique daily necessities, there were no superpower items or manuals of divine techniques.

But having a private domain within the Sanctuary was already satisfying enough for Wen Wen.

Becoming the lord of the Sanctuary and having to live by remodeling prison cells was far too shabby.

That day, Wen Wen transferred all the items he had stored in those cells to the fourth level of the Sanctuary, replacing all the antique beds, tables, and chairs.

These pieces of furniture were crafted by top Craftsman a thousand years ago and were not a bit inferior to those in palaces at that time; they could be sold for a good sum of money.

As to why Wen Wen didn’t keep them for his own use...

Could carved wooden chairs be more comfortable than his salted fish rocking chair?

What delighted Wen Wen the most was the practice room, which allowed him to use his strength freely without worrying about damaging anything due to excessive force...
