Chapter 725: Chapter 715: Do the Splits
The low boom of gunshots echoed through the night streets, as Wen Wen, dressed in black, moved through the streets and alleys like a ghostly shadow.
Trailing behind him was a flaccid skin that pursued him with steps that sent chills down one’s spine.
"Direct energy blasts will get absorbed by it, bullets don’t seem to work either, should I try cutting it?"
Wen Wen stood straight, took out a rune-etched steel sword, and gripped the hilt with both hands, slashing out several Sword Qi in quick succession.
Worried about any unknown abilities the Skin Monster might have, Wen Wen refrained from using the Blood River Sword for the time being.
Before the Sword Qi could land on the Skin Monster, it began to slide eerily, dodging the experimental Sword Qi.
"As I thought, it fears sharp attacks."
Wen Wen’s eyes brightened, and he teleported behind the Skin Monster, holding the sword grip with both hands and chopping down—the Nameless Swordsmanship’s Iron Cleaving Style!
The longsword struck through, but Wen Wen felt no sensation of cutting through anything; it was like hitting a blob of rubber with a stick, getting more difficult as he progressed.
A tremor went through Wen Wen’s heart, and then he looked at the steel sword he had slashed with, his pupils constricting.
The once pale skin of the Skin Monster had already coiled around the longsword and was creeping towards the hilt, nearly reaching Wen Wen’s hands before he even noticed!
Wen Wen quickly let go and teleported away. Looking back in the direction of the Skin Monster, the longsword had been completely engulfed by the skin, then it softened within its body and finally disappeared without a trace.
If Wen Wen had been using the Blood River Sword just now, it’s very likely he would have suffered a severe loss—at the very least, the Sword Spirit of the Blood River Sword would’ve been damaged.
"I can’t directly touch it with any weapon, and most ranged attacks are also ineffective against it..."
Wen Wen landed on the ground, looking troubled by the creature, though he wasn’t without ideas to resolve the situation.
Be it Master Feng Bei’s Monkey Jaw Thunder or the Sword of Intent, either could easily take care of it.
But to use such energy-consuming moves against such an inconsequential thing seemed like a terrible loss to Wen Wen.
Yet, as a Demon Hunter, he could not ignore the creature. Meanwhile, a mysterious person was battling the black-haired entity on another front. If he allowed the Skin Monster to join forces with the black hair, the difficulty of handling it would skyrocket.
"Forget it, if one or two tricks don’t work on it, I’ll just try eight, nine, or ten more, right? After sealing so many monsters, there must be some monster skills that will have an effect on this thing."
Flame, ice, slowing rays, high explosives, poison...
It would indeed take quite some time for Wen Wen to cycle through his arsenal.
With the high mobility of spatial movement, even with the Skin Monster’s strange abilities, it couldn’t cause too much trouble for Wen Wen.
However, as Wen Wen could handle the Skin Monster, Mr. X and Ms. M on the other side had overestimated their capabilities.
They had engaged the hair monster in battle and found themselves in dire straits after just a few minutes.
The hair of the Monster could be used as steel wire for cutting, could move at high speeds, and could defend against certain attacks.
Its eyes could unleash Mental Attacks, and it could also predict their attacks to a certain extent.
And the eerie wails from its uncanny vocal cords had plunged Mr. X and Ms. M into a state of abnormality—not just them, but the residents nearby were also caught in a sort of madness.
Seeing that things weren’t looking good, Ms. M began to think about fleeing.
Her ability was called Jade Poison, which allowed her to shoot lasers from her fingers with strong cutting force. Those hit by the light would be poisoned with Jade Poison, and if unchecked, the toxin would eventually turn the entire person into green stone.
But whether it was the hair, eyes or vocal cords, they were all truly indestructible, and her ability couldn’t turn them into jade.
The various tactics employed by the opponent were, when added together, even stronger than those of a common Mid-Tier Superhuman. The two of them, as Low-Tier Superhumans, had great difficulty just in resisting the opponent’s attack.
Thus, a cold light flashed in Ms. M’s eyes as she was about to betray Mr. X, letting him hold back the monster while she took the opportunity to escape.
Otherwise, given that Mr. X’s pace was faster than hers, she would end up being the one left behind to hold back the monster.
But when she looked towards Mr. X, she almost choked on her own anger. The fighting figure of Mr. X was nothing but a mud man that looked very much like him; his real body was fighting and retreating at the same time, continuously using his abilities to restrain the hair monster and keeping Ms. M from noticing anything amiss.
Seeing Ms. M’s incredulous expression, Mr. X realized his thoughts had been exposed. He hardened his heart and directly pushed Ms. M, a Repulsion Force landing on her and pushing her toward the hair monster.
Then, he laughed loudly, ready to flee, but his face suddenly changed, as he didn’t know when his foot had been entangled by a strand of black hair, which violently pulled him toward the hair monster.
The hair monster, though somewhat puzzled as to why these two humans suddenly turned on each other, didn’t plan on sparing either of them.
"Not a single one..... shall leave... return my things!"
At the critical moment, a ruthless intent surfaced in Mr. X’s heart.
While using the Repulsion Force to delay his being dragged to the hair monster, he directly severed his own thigh and shot out quite a distance under the push of the force, crashing to the ground.
...
On the other side, the strange Skin Monster had become a large purple-black ice block, temporarily trapped and unable to exit the ice.
This was the firm ice created by Wen Wen using Water Control Ability, combined with the Poison Sphere produced by the Black Blood Princess. The special toxin, along with the impenetrable cold ice, should be able to trap the Skin Monster for a while.
But he estimated it wouldn’t hold for very long.
As Wen Wen was preparing for the next test, he saw a figure in black, with a severed leg, crash to the ground—it was Mr. X, who had been flung away earlier.
The two stared at each other for two seconds, and the atmosphere turned somewhat awkward. Mr. X forced a couple of awkward laughs and said, "Um... I was just passing by."
A dangerous gleam flashed in Wen Wen’s eyes, "Heh, I hadn’t noticed before, but you’re one of those from Profane Blood, aren’t you..."
He didn’t care what Mr. X’s purpose was; it was definitely nothing good.
People from Profane Blood could fart somewhere, seemingly at random, and there would likely be poison involved.
"How can I make you let me go, I won’t be vague as long as it’s something I can do..."
Wen Wen laughed and said, "Then you do the splits for me."
Mr. X looked at his cleanly severed right leg, unsure how he could possibly do the splits.
"Or maybe you could suggest another..."
Suddenly, Wen Wen’s expression changed, and with a fierce punch, he struck Mr. X on the head, knocking him out cold. He then dragged him and ran several steps to the left.
The next second, a green light struck the spot where Wen Wen had just stood, and the cut ground started to reveal a jade-like sheen.
Then, a woman with hair long enough to circle a room three times descended from the air, her eyes blazing as she stared at the Skin Monster trapped by Wen Wen.
