Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 720 - 710 Gu Daoqing
Chapter 720: Chapter 710 Gu Daoqing
"Hair, eyes, vocal cords... That thing had its eyes on you just now?"
Wen Wen looked towards the direction of the sewer and asked Tao Qingqing with a grave tone.
Tao Qingqing pointed to the hair that had been hiding among the bats and said, "Yes, it seemed to be luring me into the darkness. If I hadn’t been alert, I would have fallen for it. That hair was left behind by that thing."
Wen Wen’s palm turned pitch black as he picked up the hair squirming on the ground. The hair tried to burrow into Wen Wen’s glove but failed to penetrate the Catastrophe Gloves.
Then, Wen Wen took out a small metal box and placed the hair inside it.
The metal box might not be able to contain the hair, or that bizarre stomach, but it could at least buy some time. Without the option to send it to the Sanctuary, Wen Wen didn’t have many ways to restrain these entities for now.
Initially, Wen Wen had thought that the bizarre stomach was the primary culprit behind the anomalies in Xihong City, but now it appeared his assumption was not entirely correct. The stomach was probably just a part of the main culprit.
Aside from the stomach, there were likely other parts like the heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, flesh, and bones.
If just the stomach alone seemed to possess an infinite capacity for evolution, how terrifying would it be when all parts of this creature were assembled together?
True Sequence?
No, at least a Catastrophe Level!
In the neighboring city of Liaozhou, there was a cicada with a base estimation far surpassing the True Sequence. The situation in Menxia Province was probably far beyond Wen Wen’s initial predictions.
However, two likely Catastrophe Level entities resided in adjacent cities—one merely scattered in parts across the ground, the other frenziedly attacking churches to seize divine power...
Could they both be severely injured?
Wen Wen shook his head. Without concrete information, it was pointless to speculate further.
If he made the wrong judgement, the consequences would be fatal.
"Let’s go, head to the Hunters Association in Xihong City first. At least have them monitor these two entities, so we can move on to the next step."
Wen Wen and Tao Qingqing arrived at the Hunters Association in Xihong City, the local association headquarters being located beneath a crop plantation, with the entryway situated inside a greenhouse for cucumbers.
The words Wei Jixian used to seduce Tao Qingqing weren’t entirely false; the local Hunters Association had indeed been wiped out, and along with it, the staff of the plantation above were all dead as well.
No one saw what did it, but each person died a gruesome death, their skeletons violently extracted, leaving behind nothing but a pool of flesh.
According to the Association’s investigation, all victims were killed in one strike, including the captain of the Disaster Level Hunter squad.
To achieve that, one would need at least Upper Sequence strength, and the speed would have to be so fast that people couldn’t react in time.
The weapon used by the murderer seemed to be cones of varying thickness, as traces of similar weapons were found all over the base, reminding Wen Wen of sea urchins he had encountered before.
But now, the place was as tidy as new, showing no signs of the past massacre.
Because the Menxia Province Hunters Association had taken over, and now the old man guarding the gate to the botanical garden was a Middle-order Demon Hunter, stronger than the former squad captain here.
Upon seeing Wen Wen and Tao Qingqing, the old man checked their IDs personally before allowing them to pass.
Following a Supporter, they entered the base from the cucumber garden and saw a man in a shit-brown coat quickly approaching to shake hands with Wen Wen.
The man said joyfully, "I am Gu Daoqing, a Demon Hunter from the Menxia Province branch. Mr. Gui Tan, having you coming to help truly is a relief."
"You don’t know the pressure I’ve been under these past few days; this city has gone mad. Even if I, an Upper Sequence, were to split myself into eight, I’d still struggle to maintain order in this city."
Wen Wen nodded. He knew Gu Daoqing wasn’t exaggerating; the situation here indeed wasn’t something a lone Upper Sequence could resolve.
Not to mention, almost every few steps one could encounter a bizarre incident, let alone the monster that had once annihilated a local Hunter team, which was enough to put great pressure on Gu Daoqing.
In the entire Capital District, there were actually only a dozen or so True-order Masters, so not every province had a True-order Master stationed.
The high-end combat forces in Menxia Province were only a few Upper Sequences.
And the recent cicada incident had drawn a great deal of the Hunters Association’s energy.
Not only did those strange cicadas require attention, but they also had to be wary of the large gatherings at Glory Church.
So, stationed in Xihong City, there was only Gu Daoqing, an Upper Sequence.
Now that Wen Wen had arrived, Gu Daoqing heaved a sigh of relief; with him alone, heaven knows what Xihong City would ultimately become.
Normally, the Headquarters should have sent someone during such times, but the Capital District had recently been plagued by multiple misfortunes, with two major calamities still unresolved.
One was in the southwest of the Capital District, where an abnormal cross-dimensional doorway appeared, and thousands of undead creatures with strange powers descended. These undead creatures were vastly different from ordinary ghosts.
Fortunately, that area was sparsely populated, and for the time being, no major disaster had occurred.
Another was on an island in the east of the Capital District, where a secret organization, for some unknown reason, went mad and openly challenged the Hunters Association, claiming it would take their place. Moreover, they had somehow acquired some ancient weapon...
So for the time being, what resources the Association had were clustered in those two areas, and there weren’t many people to spare to assist Menxia Province.
However, if Wen Wen’s conjecture was correct, and the two anomalies in Menxia Province were related to mysterious Catastrophe-level events, the Hunter Headquarters would force people through.
But support would take at least a few days to arrive, and in the meantime, they had to stabilize the situation and prevent any major upheaval in Menxia Province.
Wen Wen, pointing to the two boxes he had brought with him, said,
"These are things I found on my way here; they are not strong now, but they are very dangerous. Have someone figure out a way to temporarily incarcerate them; I suspect they are connected to the anomalies in this city."
Gu Daoqing sighed and said, "These two things, they must be parts of some monster’s body."
"You know as well?" Wen Wen asked in surprise.
Gu Daoqing gave a bitter smile and said, "Of course I know, I’ve caught a few myself in the days I’ve been here."
He took Wen Wen to a secret chamber at the local Hunters Association and showed him several sealed jars.
The jars were transparent, containing continuously spinning blades. As soon as anything inside attempted to coalesce, the blades would immediately shred it.
"There are five body parts here, two pieces of flesh, one kidney, one ear, and a finger."
"The flesh was found, one embedded in a human, the other in a monster. They plundered all the nutrition from their hosts to sustain themselves, while also urging their hosts to extract even more energy."
"The kidney was found in a man who then developed deviant reproductive desires, producing six deformed monsters within three days."
"The ear was growing on the back of a serial killer’s brain, driving him to keep killing..."
