Chapter 655: Chapter 645 Growth of the Four-leaf Clover

The midday sun cast warm rays, and fresh green shoots stealthily emerged from the soil, adding a touch of spring to the city, signaling the end of the long winter.

On this day, when spring blossoms bloomed, it was also time for schools to open. But all the schools in Tongling City had postponed their start dates, and the streets were somewhat deserted, with only a few pedestrians scattered around.

In order to maximize public safety without causing widespread panic, the Association, through the health department of the Tongling City Government, had announced a few days ago that a new and difficult-to-cure disease had been discovered in Tongling City. This disease spread easily in densely populated areas. In a sense, this information was actually true; only the severity was downplayed significantly.

Because of this announcement, most of Tongling City’s residents stayed indoors. This was the effect the Hunters Association wanted to achieve. Without crowds, the plant virus couldn’t spread quickly, and the Association could control the situation more swiftly.

At this moment, the happiest group in the entire Tongling City were probably the children whose school openings had been delayed due to the epidemic...

Above the city’s center, a thin white fog floated, within which Wen Wen stood, looking down upon the city.

According to conversations Wen Wen had overheard through his chains, in another hour or two, the sixteen hidden infection points of the plant virus would erupt completely, shrouding this city—already suffering from poor air quality due to the mining industry—in a layer of blood.

Wen Wen couldn’t prevent this event from happening, he could only do as much as possible to mitigate it.

Nearly twenty Rangers had come based on Wen Wen’s intelligence and more than a hundred Demon Hunters of various levels, as well as a ten-thousand-strong emergency response force, stood ready. They could reach any corner of the city as quickly as possible—this was the best Wen Wen could do.

Wen Wen’s expression was complex, his mood delicate; he felt the thrill of hunting a True-order Master, the disgust towards Dr. Feng’s actions, and pity for the people about to become victims.

What he could do now was to prepare, aiming to be in the best state to hunt Ais Wakaz, then ensure that Dr. Feng received the punishment he deserved. It wasn’t enough just to lock him up in the Sanctuary; Wen Wen also wanted to subject him to never-ending torture.

The monsters Wen Wen locked in the Sanctuary were many and wicked, acting on instinct, their perverted desires, or their inherently evil nature. Wen Wen simply imprisoned them, occasionally torturing them a bit.

But Dr. Feng was different; he was constantly thinking of overturning the entire human society and willing to create epidemic after epidemic for that goal. He was not just anti-human, but also anti-animal. No matter the perspective, Wen Wen wanted Dr. Feng to pay a price.

Suddenly, Wen Wen received something from inside the Sanctuary, a tiny crystal card from the ’Living Water Spirit’ Isweet, engraved with a holographic map of the entire Tongling City.

"Getting this now means the disaster has already started... but it’s not even ten hours yet, at least an hour and a half remains... Dr. Feng didn’t even tell the truth to Ais Wakaz, but I’m prepared for this."

Wen Wen activated the crystal card and saw sixteen spots marked in red. These points were all the infection sources for the plant virus created by Dr. Feng.

They had been in a dormant state until now, barely noticeable, which was why Wen Wen, despite his best efforts to search and set up Surveillance Points, still couldn’t find them.

Near those red dots, small white or yellow dots began to appear. This meant the virus was starting to spread. Wen Wen immediately passed the coordinates of these sixteen points to the waiting Demon Hunters, who would choose the most suitable course of action according to the situation.

As for the infection point closest to Wen Wen, he would deal with it personally.

...

In the underground parking garage of the residential area, the sound of footsteps echoed as a middle-aged man in his forties ran toward the exit with a look of joy on his face.

His name was Zhang Chunmao, a regular resident of the community. That morning, he wanted to get some things from his car when he suddenly discovered a room at the far end of the garage, with its door slightly ajar, a room he had never seen before.

Driven by curiosity, Zhang Chunmao approached the room. Peering through the narrow door crack, he saw no one inside and noticed the floor was covered in densely packed banknotes. So, he was tempted and walked in.

But he could never have imagined that this would be the beginning of his nightmare. The moment he picked up the banknotes, he was horrified to find they had all turned into rotting leaves, and he was not in some mysterious room but inside the body of a bizarre plant.

The door that had let him in had vanished!

Zhang Chunmao sat withered in the room for hours, engulfed in endless terror. Although nothing happened in the end, he always felt a disaster looming over him.

Finally, after several hours, the door reappeared. He seized the opportunity to rush out of the plant body and quickly ran toward the exit of the garage. He would be safe once he reached the sunlight.

Yet the moment he stepped out of the garage, Zhang Chunmao’s movements slowed down, but the fear in his heart gradually faded. The sunlight on his face and hands gave him infinite pleasure.

Gradually, he heard sounds like bursting pimples coming from his face, as something grew out of his cracked skin. However, he found nothing strange about this; in fact, he felt very comfortable. As long as he could stand in the sunlight, he was happy to do anything.

But he soon realized that his view was blocked by something that prevented him from enjoying the sunlight, something that looked like four-leaf clovers... growing out of his own face!

...

Inside the duty room at the entrance of the residential area outside the garage, security guard Hu Yanbing’s eyes were wide open; his worldview had just been shaken.

He first saw Brother Zhang, who would sometimes chat with him, ecstatically walking out of the garage. Then Zhang became increasingly slower, spreading his arms and looking at the sun as if on a pilgrimage.

Suddenly, plants resembling four-leaf clovers began to grow all over Brother Zhang’s body, covering every inch of his skin, making him look like a human-shaped potted plant.

Hu Yanbing hurriedly made an emergency call, briefly describing the situation. He thought the officers would think he was lying, but to his surprise, they were even more serious than he was.

After hanging up the phone, Hu Yanbing took out a steel pipe and cautiously walked toward Zhang Chunmao, despite the officer on the phone instructing him to leave the scene immediately and find a safe place to wait. But Hu Yanbing still wanted to check on Zhang Chunmao’s condition.

However, Hu Yanbing had taken only two steps when he saw the four-leaf clovers on Zhang Chunmao’s face begin to fall off, revealing a set of green skin underneath!
