Chapter 644: Chapter 634 Power of Faith
In the deep, dark, lightless cave, there were plant remnants scattered everywhere. A gigantic Mushroom Person was nailed to the rock wall by a dozen golden spears, its face frozen with a look of terror.
It was the same monster Wen Wen had seen before. It now lacked any sign of life. Until its death, it could not grasp why the man, who had only been fleeing mere moments before, suddenly erupted with an unstoppable strength that easily killed it.
Having just completed a slaughter, Wen Wen was crouching next to a plant rhizome, carefully using a dagger to extract its poison sac, then using a syringe to withdraw the venom into several small glass bottles.
The only thing still active in the huge hybrid monster’s body after death was its venom.
This meant that once the venom spread, even if the host body was killed, the infected creatures would not return to normal, continuing to spread the deadly venom.
"I wonder if this venom, apart from affecting Ore Ghosts, could also infect other creatures, like humans... If that’s the case, it could be troublesome," Wen Wen mused.
After extracting the venom, Wen Wen switched to the Oxygen-Sucking Sheep Demon Yao’s power, vacuumed all the nearby oxygen into the massive cave, and then set a fire, burning everything in the cave to ashes.
This type of plant monster, even if uprooted completely and left unattended, could possibly reroot and regrow. Wen Wen did not want to leave any risks, so he burnt it all down.
The previous battle between Wen Wen and the hybrid plant monster, along with the raging fire, attracted the attention of the Ore Ghosts. They gathered at the entrance of the cave, curiously peering inside.
"Tsk tsk, they weren’t scared away..."
Thinking it over, Wen Wen then activated his Dark Matter state, allowing the dark energy outside his body to mimic a black liquid-like appearance, resembling an Ore Ghost to about ninety percent accuracy, and then slowly walked out of the cave.
The Ore Ghosts, seeing a figure similar to their own emerge from inside, all fell silent; soon after, one of the Ore Ghosts entered the cave, saw the terrifying monster was already dead, and then scampered out to cheer in a strange language to the others.
Following that, all the Ore Ghosts started jumping around Wen Wen, and even though Wen Wen didn’t understand what they were saying, he could still feel their joy.
After their cheers, the Ore Ghosts knelt before Wen Wen, it seemed that they were praying in their peculiar language.
Seeing their reaction, Wen Wen couldn’t help but chuckle silently. These creatures were thinking too simply; just a minor disguise, and they truly stopped suspecting Wen Wen’s identity and even started to regard him as something grand.
But on second thought, Wen Wen found it entirely rational. If they were very smart, how could they have used their lives to block the monster created by Dr. Feng? Fleeing would have been the optimal solution for their species.
Then, Wen Wen’s mouth curled into a mischievous grin. He planned to perform a silly dance and then reveal his true self, shattering these creatures’ fantasies.
As for why he might do this, it was simply for fun. Having helped them avert a race-ending threat, finding some amusement with them didn’t seem too excessive.
"Hehe, I can’t wait to see your faces... Wait, what’s that?"
Wen Wen’s expression suddenly turned serious, because he could feel an unusual power wrapping around him, worshipping him!
This power was not strong, and it was negligible to Wen Wen at his current stage, but the nature of this power was very strange. He had only sensed it during mass prayers by adherents of the Creation Church!
This is... the power generated by faith!
"No need for preaching, no need to claim to be a god, just pure worship can generate the power of faith... Because they now worship me intensely, so this power hovers around me?"
"Indeed, the Heaven Stone itself isn’t strong, but it was able to harness miraculous strength through the villagers’ centuries of faith... Perhaps it doesn’t have to be faith, extreme fear might also work."
Wen Wen tried to utilize this power, and the power was very cooperative, but after trying for a while, Wen Wen gave up.
At this stage, he was not capable of using this strength, he could only look at it and not transform it for his own use, but if his strength reached the Catastrophe Level, he should be able to easily use this kind of power.
"No wonder some Catastrophe-Level experts like to claim themselves as gods; it’s not necessarily to fulfill any desires, but to utilize the power of faith!"
"After absorbing these powers, one can even communicate with believers using this strength, and even bestow a certain power..."
After discovering the power of faith, Wen Wen did not play tricks anymore. He wanted to retain these Ore Ghosts’ faith until his power was sufficient to analyze the essence of this strength.
Since he intended to retain their faith, he could not leave in a bland manner; he had to devise a sensational way of departure.
Wen Wen snapped his fingers, and a black stone door appeared out of thin air, a special effect skin for entering the Sanctuary. The door depicted Wen Wen’s current disguised appearance, with Ore Ghosts kneeling beneath it...
Then Wen Wen stepped through the door and disappeared into the air, while those Ore Ghosts knelt on the ground, unwilling to lift their heads for a long time.
The strongest Ore Ghost finally stood up, walked to a flat wall, and began to carve the scene he just witnessed. He wanted to pass this scene down, letting more Ore Ghosts know that their tribe also had a great being...
...
"Seeing these ’miracles,’ the faith of these Ore Ghosts should not dissipate quickly, though who can say... Who knows if these simple-minded creatures will worship some other powerful being they see."
"Speaking of which, that microphone was forgotten and left behind... Since I didn’t use them for amusement, that item will serve as my reward for saving them."
Wen Wen made contact with Tao Qingqing, and left the Sanctuary through her. At the moment, she was investigating strange events in Tongling City, so Wen Wen did not disturb her but went directly to the Hunter’s Association in Tongling City and located the local Demon Hunter squad captain, to whom he handed over the collected venom.
This venom would be sent to the nearest Association research facility from Tongling City, and then they would find out how to neutralize the toxin. Wen Wen did not know if this would work, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
Subsequently, Wen Wen used the pendant on his ear to exchange information with Zhu Qipei and Master Feng Bei.
Zhu Qipei’s investigated area turned up nothing, emptyhanded, while Master Feng Bei encountered plant monsters similar to those Wen Wen had seen.
This cast a shadow over Wen Wen’s heart; if it had been only one place, it might have been manageable, but Master Feng Bei encountering similar creatures was enough to indicate what Dr. Feng intended to do in Tongling City.
However, whatever his goal, Wen Wen could not let him succeed. Tongling City wasn’t a small city like Yueshan City but a large city with millions of inhabitants, and the consequences of an incident were unimaginable.
