Chapter 511: Chapter 509 Soul Jade
He had been busy until five in the afternoon when there had been no new developments at the Association, so Yan Xiu went off work and returned home.
Leaving work on time and going home was a rare occurrence for Yan Xiu.
Though he always wore a grim expression, he was indeed very dedicated and responsible at work, often being the last one to leave the Association.
But today, he was going home to make a major decision, one that concerned his future and life or death!
After seeing Wen Wen’s overwhelming strength again, Yan Xiu no longer wanted to remain stagnant.
In recent times, the conflict between the Divine Grace Sect and the Divine Descendant Sect of the Glory Church had worsened, even to the point where it could be described as irreconcilably antagonistic, with attacks on each other being almost a daily occurrence.
As a member of the Divine Grace Sect, Yan Xiu had been inevitably drawn into this struggle.
In Yan Xiu’s view, this conflict was extremely foolish; no matter whether the Divine Descendant Sect or the Divine Grace Sect emerged victorious, it would ultimately only harm the Glory Church.
If the Divine Descendant Sect won, it would be the time when the Glory Church and the Hunters Association would completely break off relations. But with the Glory Church already in decline, did it really have the capability to go head-to-head with the Hunters Association?
In the end, the Church would probably be directly annihilated by the Hunters Association.
On the other hand, the Divine Grace Sect was too weak, its doctrines too mild, and after victory, it would be slowly squeezed by the Hunters Association, ultimately losing its say.
The strife between the two factions might even have the shadow of the Hunters Association behind it.
However, Yan Xiu was not worried about the future fate of the Glory Church because he was already preparing to change sides.
He had no need to continue staying in an organization that was rotten from the core, sinking with this broken ship to the bottom of the sea.
Originally, although he was not as brainwashed with fervor as others, he had never entertained the rebellious thought of changing allegiances.
But as he learned more about his own strength and the Glory Church, the idea became impossible to shake off.
Yan Xiu himself was a rare superpower user in the Glory Church, possessing his own Supernatural Power.
Most other priests and knights relied entirely on their devout faith in the ’creator’ and the angels to gain strength.
This was the case for both the Divine Descendant Sect and the Divine Grace Sect.
More than a decade ago, when Yan Xiu was only ten years old, he was forcibly taken away from his parents and sent to the Glory Temple for rigorous special training.
After the training ended, he discovered that his parents had long passed away.
Initially, Yan Xiu didn’t feel much about this, merely thinking that life was full of impermanence and unjust fate.
But as he worked for the Hunters Association longer and gained more understanding of Supernatural Powers, Yan Xiu gradually realized the truth of his ten years of training.
It wasn’t training intended to improve his abilities but to bind him with the Glory Church!
During those ten years, he spent every day and night with an angel statue, and his abilities were tied to that angel statue.
After being bound, his own strength, too, required sufficient devotion to that angel to make even a minor progress!
In other words, if it hadn’t been for those ten years of training, Yan Xiu would have been much stronger now.
Just on the basis of this discovery, Yan Xiu developed a resentment towards the Divine Grace Sect which had raised him for many years, and so, using the Demon Hunter channels, he inquired about his parents.
The results revealed the so-called ’no longer in this world’ was completely false!
His parents were given a sum of money by the Glory Church, moved overseas, and promised not to contact Yan Xiu again.
It was only because affection could potentially affect Yan Xiu’s devotion to the angel.
Once Yan Xiu removed his believer’s filter, the Glory Church had already become a place he detested from the bottom of his heart.
It was only because his power was bound to that Angel that he could not break free, so he desperately tried to enhance his abilities, hoping to escape the shackles of the church.
But he soon despaired to find that, after he started to hate the Glory Church, his own strength couldn’t advance the slightest bit!
No matter how hard he worked, at best he could only maintain his current level and not regress.
Whenever he felt intense loathing, his power would act up and make it difficult for him to control his own strength.
Under such torment, as he watched Wen Wen’s strength rapidly improve, Yan Xiu could no longer hold back. He decided to take a risky move and sever the connection, parting ways with the Glory Church once and for all.
Normally, Yan Xiu would have been completely incapable of doing this.
But the Divine Grace Sect had him collect a mysterious substance that made this possible.
This substance was known as ’Soul Jade’.
It was a mystical material made using the faith in the creator from the common folk, as well as the energy cores of numerous ghosts, created through a special method.
This material could be used to summon angels or to repair the spatial rifts caused by the arrival of powerful beings into reality.
After extensive research and investigation, Yan Xiu was convinced that he could rely on Soul Jade to break the ties between himself and the Glory Church.
Since then, every time Yan Xiu condensed Soul Jade, he would retain a small part for himself before handing it over.
And now, in his hands, he already had a piece of Soul Jade the size of a bottle cap, enough for his use.
Yan Xiu took a deep breath, pulled out an iron box the size of a palm, and took out a grey crystal from it.
This was the Soul Jade; such a small piece required at least dozens of ghost cores, as well as a vast amount of the Power of Faith.
He opened his clothes, drew a complex magic array on his chest with spiritual materials, and then placed the Soul Jade on his heart.
As soon as the Soul Jade touched his skin, it began to burrow into Yan Xiu’s body, causing him such pain that his whole body trembled.
But on Yan Xiu’s mask, a smile was displayed.
The Soul Jade entering his body was making the bond between him and the Angel grow finer and finer!
His calculations were indeed correct, this Soul Jade filled with magical might indeed could free him from his predicament.
As the bond’s constriction on his body lessened, Yan Xiu’s power became more and more vigorous, prompting him to burst into laughter.
The strength he had accumulated from rigorous training was shooting up like a rocket, bringing him closer and closer to the level of the Assimilation Realm.
At first, Yan Xiu was delighted, but he soon realized something was wrong.
His increase in strength was normal, but to ascend to the Assimilation Realm, one needed to fight for control of their body against the Remnant Spirits of the powerful beings connected to their power source.
However, his power was almost rising linearly, and the so-called Remnant Spirits hadn’t appeared at all, and this suddenly gained strength seemed out of his control!
It was then that Yan Xiu realized that the bond connecting him to the Angel, although thinned, hadn’t dissolved.
Instead, it had transformed into countless threads too fine to detect, burrowing into every corner of his body, exerting even more control over it.
The piece of Soul Jade that had penetrated his body was also incessantly altering Yan Xiu’s physique, making him more and more powerful.
But this power was developing in an abnormally distorted direction.
