Chapter 463: Chapter 461 Investigator and Red Moon

In the center of Hua Shan City, the site of the previous great battle, was cordoned off with red tape.

This area would need to be sealed off for some time before it could be opened to the common people within the city district.

A robust old man with short white hair was leading a team of Demon Hunters dressed in white uniforms through the vicinity, moving from place to place, stopping occasionally to study certain traces that bystanders wouldn’t understand.

These Demon Hunters were known as ’Investigators,’ and their primary task was not combat but to collect and analyze intelligence.

They were responsible for collecting all information pertaining to the Disaster True Sequence and above, and conducting risk assessments.

If the target posed a clear threat to the Hunters Association and could potentially cause large-scale casualties, then it would become a priority for the Association to deal with.

For those who were scheming but had no imminent plans to act, they could afford to slow down the process.

And those who held no hostility towards the Association, they would seek to ally with them and work together with the Association.

While the Investigators might not be powerful and their names not well-known, it was precisely because of the Investigators that the Hunters Association was able to maintain the Federation’s stability.

If Rangers were the knives used for killing in the hands of the Hunters Association, then Investigators were the brain used for analyzing situations.

Their threat assessment process was highly complex and exceedingly rigorous, with hardly any chance of error, thus they were deeply trusted by the highest echelons of the Association, and their authority was frighteningly high.

After they had collected all the information here, the old man with the white beard plopped down on a rock and asked, "What news and opinions do you have about this newly emerged Catastrophe-Level Expert?"

An Investigator with glasses who looked somewhat dull-witted took out a thick notebook, flipped through it, and then said to the old man with the white beard, "Including this time, ’Black Cross’ had taken action several times, and this was the only time his true body has descended."

"If he hadn’t appeared, the Devout Chanters and that monster claiming to be a Winged Servant from True Order in Oye Water City would have caused significant harm to the Association, and... there would have been many more deaths in Hua Shan City, many more!"

"What can now be confirmed is that this mysterious True-order Master has not shown any malice towards the Association so far. On the contrary, he has helped the Association a lot, saving many commoners."

"I personally think the Association can cooperate with him, and if possible, more contact could be established to try and make him the ninth Judicator of the Association."

After his report, everyone started discussing, but the old man with the white beard did not give his opinion.

An Investigator with a long, narrow face and black lips came forward and said sarcastically, "Mr. Yin Hu, the working style of Investigators is not the same as that of Rangers. Don’t use the method you used when you were a Ranger to deal with the work of an Investigator."

"We still don’t know enough about ’Black Cross’, and we should be more cautious about how to proceed. According to my investigation, the range of activities of Black Cross and his subordinates overlap with that of the Ranger known as Mystic Detective, so the two might have a connection."

"I suggest that I interrogate the Ranger ’Mystic Detective’; this way, we can clarify..."

"I object." Yin Hu frowned and said, "Apal, what you call interrogation is actually punishment."

"If that Ranger has nothing to do with ’Black Cross,’ it would be an accident, and if there is a connection, it might anger Black Cross, turning him into our enemy..."

Apal retorted with scorn, "Indecisive, not capable of achieving anything significant..."

"Enough, discussion halted. For the time being, do not attempt to make contact with ’Black Cross,’ nor should we interrogate the Mystic Detective Ranger. We will consider the long-term plan."

"Yes!"

All the people in white bowed neatly to the old man.

Next, the old man placed his hand on the ground, and wisps of residual black energy started gathering in his hand.

Gazing at that wisp of pitch-black energy, the elder showed a meaningful expression.

"Who exactly are you... The Federation couldn’t possibly have such a character emerge out of nowhere..."

...

In Oye Water City, the Devout Chanter returned to his abode and entered the dream world with a heart full of trepidation.

The dreamscape was a prairie blanketed with blue and purple flowers, where a mountainous giant creature lay in deep slumber on the ground. This creature was the Ancient God Ensook.

Only in this dream world was it possible to behold the full visage of Ancient God Ensook. Even though his physical form was sleeping in the outer world, his body was already covered with a thick layer of dust, making it appear as an undersea mountain range.

Had it not been for the successive generations in Oye Water City passing down the legend, one could never imagine that it was a colossal sleeping being.

In front of Ensook’s head lay a temple without a roof. A dozen bizarre creatures were kneeling orderly within the temple, listening to the nonsense murmured by the Ancient God Ensook.

These odd sounds would drive an ordinary creature mad upon hearing them, but only the devoted chanters of Water City were able to comprehend the meaning behind these words. It was with the help of their ancient god’s power that they became experts of the Disaster True Sequence.

The Devout Chanter knelt nervously at the center of the temple and relayed everything he had encountered in Hua Shan City to Ancient God Ensook. Then he bowed his head to the ground, awaiting Ensook’s judgment.

If what Black Cross said was true, then he might receive some reward.

If what he said was false...

Although Ensook would not execute the Devout Chanter, the experience would not be too pleasant for him.

After hearing the words of the Devout Chanter, the ancient god had no reaction; instead, he mumbled a name as if whispering in a dream.

"Wen Li... Wen Li..."

...

In the Inner World, there was a strange red moon.

Though called a red moon, it was actually an odd red planet that could drift freely through space. The people on whichever planet were fortunate enough to see this red moon would soon face the descent of Calamity upon their world.

At this moment, on the Red Moon, a fierce battle was unfolding in an inconspicuous small mining site.

One side of the battle consisted of countless skeletal creatures, both humanoid and beastly in form.

The other side included Wen Li and the followers he had recruited within the mental asylum. Besides the monsters Wen Wen had once been familiar with, there were also many new monsters who had joined.

These monsters shared one common characteristic: they did not seem like living creatures!

This small mining site could produce a type of rare ore, which would become a resource for Wen Li.

Before ascending to this world, Wen Li had thought himself to be the Child of Destiny, but upon arriving in the land of strength, he found himself in an endless struggle for survival.

On this oddly red planet, killings unfolded incessantly. These monsters no longer had the privilege of being Undead; upon being killed, they would become nourishment for the enemy, empowering them further.

This place was a vast Slaughterhouse, where mere Disaster-Level power meant nothing.
