Chapter 437: Chapter 435: Launching the Operation

Seeing her lick the slime, Wen Wen felt a bit disgusted. After hearing about hundreds of them, his scalp tingled even more. If these hundreds of insects were to parasitize on human bodies like the previous one, the harm they could cause was immeasurable.

Thus, he stepped forward and said, "I don’t know whether what I encountered before was this insect, but I felt it necessary to explain the situation to everyone."

Following that, Wen Wen repeated the situations of the driver and the woman he had encountered to everyone.

Everyone felt a chill run down their spine. If that were true, there might be hundreds of lunatics trying to cause destruction in the city now.

Fearful Butterfly considered it to be expected. She had this idea when deducing the form of the insect, as parasitism is a common strategy among supernatural insect beings.

While everyone was shocked by these insects, Wen Wen suddenly realized something was amiss. Since they only came to know about these insects now, why had the Hunters Association gone to such lengths over this matter?

After raising the question, a superpower user, who had been standing on the periphery, stepped forward.

This Ranger wore a loose robe, obscuring his face, but underneath the robe, there seemed to be dense black bandages.

He stepped forward and said, "Let me explain the reason why the Association issued the mission in advance."

"Before the abnormalities began here, the Association had received a threatening call from the fugitive, ’Game Maniac’."

Game Maniac...

Wasn’t that Wu Wang? A flash of realization crossed Wen Wen’s eyes. It was indeed him who orchestrated the events here.

However, the fact that just one person could prompt the Hunters Association to mobilize so extensively showed how formidable that guy was. With his current strength, Wen Wen might not be able to handle him.

"Game Maniac said on the phone that he wanted to open the gates of the Inner World in Hua Shan City, and he also mentioned that a group of sea monsters hidden in Hua Shan City are plotting a massacre."

"These sea monsters are an organized group with a large number, and there are at least two Disaster Upper Order monsters among them..."

Wen Wen secretly sneered. He knew very well that the so-called sea monsters planning to massacre the city were actually here to hunt Wu Wang. They were not interested in massacring the city at all.

And Wu Wang’s purpose was merely to use the strength of the Hunters Association to deal with the sea monsters hunting him.

However, those sea monsters were also Wen Wen’s enemies. If they had not been misled by Wen Wen to chase after Wu Wang, Wen Wen would have been the one being hunted, so he didn’t tell the present Demon Hunters the truth.

The thoroughly concealed Demon Hunter continued, "The Association had been trying to verify the authenticity of his information. After confirming the existence of the aquatic monsters, we issued the mission, not expecting these insects to appear."

After finishing his explanation, the Demon Hunter stood to one side in silence, and Wen Wen only then noticed his strength — True Integration Sequence... Upper Order!

Out of the eight people present, there had been an Upper Order Demon Hunter all along, who hadn’t really concealed his aura, but Wen Wen had only noticed his strength after he finished speaking, which seemed quite strange.

The others also noticed this person’s peculiarity. Fearful Butterfly hesitantly asked, "May I know who you are...?"

The man hesitated for a moment, then slapped his forehead and said, "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am a Level One Ranger from the Capital District, code-named ’Hidden Thorn’, and I am temporarily in charge of commanding this operation. It was I who sent the message for you all to gather here."

While Rangers generally possess similar authorities during solo missions, there are ranks among Rangers too, namely Special Class, Level One, Level Two, and Level Three, corresponding to True Sequence, Upper Sequence, Middle Sequence, and Lower Sequence respectively.

Take Xun Qing, the fellow, as an example. He’s a Special Class Ranger, and Hidden Thorn, being a Level One Ranger, definitely belongs to the Upper Order superpower users.

However, the rank of a Ranger is determined by both merits and strength. Thus, while a Level One Ranger is certainly an Upper Order superpower user, an Upper Order superpower user doesn’t necessarily become a Level One Ranger if their merits are insufficient.

Like Wen Wen, although his strength already belonged to Middle Order Level, he had spent too little time in the Lower Sequence and had not accumulated enough merits, so he remained a Level Three Ranger.

The Ranger ranks are generally irrelevant since everyone operates solo.

But when multiple Rangers need to collaborate on a mission, command authority falls to the highest ranked Ranger present.

Seeing everyone staring at him, Hidden Thorn felt a little uncomfortable and then chuckled awkwardly, "Don’t mind me, continue discussing as you were."

Wen Wen rolled his eyes. You just declared yourself in charge of command, how could we not mind you?

And thus, an awkward silence fell over the gathering. Hidden Thorn then sighed helplessly and said, "Alright then, let me tell you about the next step in our plan."

"Including myself, there are eight of us Rangers here, each one an elite. But eight is not enough. Over a dozen more Rangers will be arriving within the day."

"Before they arrive, we need to disperse to collect information and try our best to suppress the chaos occurring within the city."

"As for command... I actually don’t have much to command. Everyone probably feels the same way I do, preferring to work alone. Hence, once another Level One Ranger arrives, I will transfer command authority over."

"Remember, your primary task is to gather information and try your best to maintain stability in the city, not to tackle problems single-handedly. So be careful and cautious when you come across Disaster Level enemies, and avoid falling into enemy traps."

After speaking, Hidden Thorn jumped directly down from the rooftop. The moment his figure disappeared, his aura vanished completely. Had it not been for his status as a Level One Demon Hunter, Wen Wen might have suspected he had simply died from the fall.

Wen Wen rubbed his hair, feeling that Hidden Thorn seemed rather panicked.

Initially, he spoke steadier than an old dog, but when everyone’s eyes fell on him, he seemed quite uncomfortable, so he quickly finished issuing the mission and disappeared.

This guy seemed to exhibit some signs of social anxiety.

Faced with such an unreliable commander, everyone exchanged helpless looks and then dispersed, each choosing a direction to tackle the city’s troubles in their own way.

As Hidden Thorn said, what each Ranger excels at is actually working solo.

Gathering everyone together might ensure safety, but it definitely lowers the efficiency of problem-solving.
