Chapter 422: Chapter 420 Plague Prevention Town
The impulse lasted for several minutes, tumultuous and intense, making Wen Wen feel as if he could awaken at any moment.
But in the end, the impulse remained firmly within his body and ultimately dissipated gradually.
Wen Wen’s expression went from excited to distorted as he bellowed in anger, "Damn it, what is going on!"
He furiously rubbed his long hair, somewhat crazed, as no one was more eager to awaken their own ability than him. Relying solely on the Sanctuary’s strength left him in constant unease.
He really didn’t understand why, despite the impulse being so strong, he still ended up failing in the end.
According to his investigations, the awakening of other superpower users was definitely not as troublesome as his.
When superpower users were subject to significant stimulation, the impulse to awaken was like water flow, and the obstacles preventing them from becoming superpower users were like paper, easily breached by the flow.
Even those who had more difficulty awakening only faced a barrier like a rubber membrane. Although resilient, it would be broken after several attempts.
Wen Wen’s obstacle, however, was like a steel plate!
No matter how fierce the water flow, it couldn’t penetrate a steel plate!
"There’s definitely a problem. In the records, superpower users who’ve felt this kind of impulse all awakened their Superpower without exception!"
"It’s not a lack of Inspiration, nor insufficient stimulation... but when awakening reached a certain path, it couldn’t progress any further..."
If he couldn’t solve this problem, the search for stimulation would be futile for Wen Wen.
Not being able to awaken his ability made Wen Wen unbearably anxious, and at this time, a new change occurred in the town.
Tall shadows appeared in the town, and through the thin mist, it was discernible that they were a group of tall human-like creatures!
These creatures, about two meters tall, had bizarre black spiny skin; spikes protruded from their hair and backs, resembling the Sea Urchin Clan to an extreme degree!
Slung across their bodies were fish skin bags as they searched among the sea urchins, placing every uniquely colored miniature sea urchin they found into their bags with actions akin to tea farmers picking tea leaves.
"Are they another form of Sea Urchin disease infectees, or a different species altogether? Is the plague related, and could it be spread by these creatures?"
Wen Wen pulled out his Custodian Badge and gripped it in his hand. The image that appeared allowed him to determine that the strongest among these creatures was only of Calamity Level strength!
He was currently extremely irate and, considering these beings weren’t dangerous, Wen Wen didn’t hesitate to jump down from the chimney and kicked the face of the leading Sea Urchin Monster, sending it flying.
The Sea Urchin Monster hit the ground, spewing blackish-red blood from its mouth, staring at Wen Wen in horror.
The rest of the Sea Urchin Monsters, upon seeing Wen Wen’s sudden appearance, drew their weapons and pointed them at Wen Wen, screeching loudly at him.
The objects in their hands resembled farm tools more than weapons.
Wen Wen ignored the other Sea Urchin Monsters and stood on a rock, clutching the leader’s neck and hoisting him up.
Only a few leaders among these creatures possessed the strength of the Calamity Level; the rest of the Sea Urchin Monsters were, at best, equivalent to slightly stronger ordinary people. Even without using his monster physique, Wen Wen could single-handedly defeat them all.
As for why he stood on the rock...
Of course, it was because the Sea Urchin Monster was too tall. On the ground, even if Wen Wen raised his hand to its maximum height, the monster’s feet would still be planted on the ground...
"Speak! Is it you who spread this plague, and what needs to be done to end it?" Wen Wen asked coldly, his voice carrying a sharp intent to kill.
The Sea Urchin Monster hemmed and hawed for a long time before finally pointing at its own throat and flailing its limbs; it couldn’t speak because Wen Wen was choking it.
Wen Wen rolled his eyes and threw it on the ground.
The Sea Urchin Monster sat up, clutching its throat, and said weakly, "This plague has nothing to do with us. We Sea Urchin Clan always prefer peace. We only came here to pick high-quality sea urchins to take back for breeding..."
Wen Wen hit the Sea Urchin Monster with his cane and said, "Nonsense, the plague here is related to sea urchins, and you are here harvesting the sea urchins generated by the plague. You think I’d believe your lies?"
The Sea Urchin Monster, having been hit, grew angry and stood up to glare at Wen Wen, saying:
"This is clearly a calamity of your own making, humans. It has nothing to do with us. We only came here to pick them because of the high quality of the sea urchins."
A calamity of their own making, humans...
Wen Wen narrowed his eyes; this guy seemed to know the truth.
His cane glowed red, and Frenzy seeped through the cane into Wen Wen’s body, completely transforming his demeanor. He spoke to the Sea Urchin Monster with a fierce and frenzied tone.
"Anyone can talk big without proof. If you can’t convince me, all of you will die here today!"
As he spoke, Wen Wen jabbed his cane into a nearby rock, shattering it instantly.
The previously defiant Sea Urchin Monster, upon seeing Wen Wen’s transformation, trembled like a leaf.
Just as these monsters were terrifying to humans, the image of humans was equally horrifying to other species, and Wen Wen, in the eyes of the Sea Urchin Monster, was the most terrifying of all.
"This, this plague has nothing to do with our Sea Urchin Clan. Under the seas around Biyi Town lies a massive quantity of human skeletons. The sea urchins here are nourished by those human bones," it said.
"And the people of Biyi Town love to eat sea urchins. They have been eating these sea urchins for generations, for over a thousand years, and their bodies have long accumulated huge amounts of resentment. This plague is nothing but an outbreak of that resentment," it continued.
Massive quantities of human bones with a history of over a thousand years, a past plague, and the name of this town, Biyi Town...
A look of realization appeared in Wen Wen’s eyes; now everything was coming together.
In the past, a great plague struck Gaozhou City, and all those who contracted the plague were brought to this gourd-shaped island.
Whenever someone in the town died, the desperate people would throw the bodies into the sea; this must be the origin of the massive human bones mentioned by the Sea Urchin Monster.
According to legend, a golden sea urchin drifted from the sea, and the islanders shared and ate it, causing the plague to disappear completely.
Those people settled here and established this town.
Although there was no evidence, Wen Wen guessed that the original name of this town was... Plague Prevention Town!
Over time and with the passage of the years, it gradually came to be known as the present-day Biyi Town.
Since it was a golden sea urchin that saved the town, the people of Biyi Town developed a liking for sea urchins and only ate those that came from the island’s edges.
Even though the plague from a thousand years ago had long since vanished with time, the resentment of countless deceased clung to those sea urchins.
With the accumulation over centuries and a catalyst to trigger it, the terrifying sea urchin syndrome was finally born!
