Chapter 355: Chapter 353 Phone Screening

At best, Wang Zixuan’s condition could only be delayed by two or three days; as time passed, even if he didn’t completely transform into a demon, Wen Wen wouldn’t keep him at Wang Junyi’s home any longer.

To stop Wang Zixuan’s transformation, the source of what had made him this way had to be found, and Wen Wen had already got his hands on the clues to the source—Wang Junyi’s collected documents.

These documents were recorded in a small notebook which listed every victim who had received that eerie text message; those who had forwarded the message naturally ignored it, but among those who hadn’t, there were at least twenty-four.

Out of these twenty-plus people, seven, like Wang Zixuan, had fallen into a coma for some time because they hadn’t forwarded the message and had woken up with a completely changed temperament.

And the remaining seventeen, within a week after the text message incident, all faced various misfortunes.

Loss of a large sum of money, home burglaries, computer explosions, slop buckets falling from the sky...

In short, during that period, they seemed to be watched over by Li Dazhuang, to the extent that Wen Wen even considered calling him over to help with the investigation if he hadn’t been in training.

Those who had forwarded the message had also experienced some misfortunes within a week.

Contrary to those who hadn’t forwarded it, their luck had been relatively good that week, with some receiving unexpected windfalls or having success at work.

Some found money, got promotions and raises, or accidentally tossed slop buckets out of buildings without anyone holding them accountable...

Judging from these cases, that text message seemed more like a bizarre containment item, just as described: forward it and you’ll have good fortune; don’t and you’ll be struck with misfortune.

And among them, the seven people including Wang Zixuan seemed to have been specifically chosen by the mastermind behind the scenes because of their misfortunes.

Perhaps that mastermind was using the magical power of this text message to search within the confines of Lugang City for suitable vessels for a demon’s descent.

"So the first step I need to take is to go steal some Holy Water, then find people similar to Wang Zixuan one by one, get them under control, and finally trace the source through the message!"

Having made up his mind, Wen Wen hurried off to the church in Lugang City.

Glory Church wasn’t as large and established as the Hunter Association; a typical city-level church would at most have one superpower user at the Mastery or Exploration Realm.

Such Realm superpower users naturally couldn’t stop Wen Wen, who filled several small buckets with Holy Water before leaving contentedly.

But, despite how heavily Wen Wen took, by tomorrow morning, it’s likely that the same amount of Holy Water would be produced; every church had the capacity to manufacture Holy Water in large quantities.

After getting the Holy Water, Wen Wen made a phone call to the family of the earliest victim Wang Junyi had found, using the contact information he had obtained.

Wen Wen planned to investigate according to the timeline, starting with the earliest cases. Among the seven people, two were before Wang Zixuan and four were after him.

The two before were likely, like Wang Zixuan, already harming their family members, so Wen Wen had to act quickly to see if he could save them.

Beep... beep... beep...

The phone rang for quite a while, but it went unanswered, which made Wen Wen’s heart sink. Under normal circumstances, there could be many reasons for not answering, but given the current situation, Wen Wen could only think of the worst!

So Wen Wen didn’t waste time; he transformed into a stream of data and dove into the phone, then emerged from the other end’s device.

Yan Biqing could teleport using communication devices, and this kind of transfer didn’t care whether the other party picked up the phone or not!

As soon as he emerged from the cell phone, Wen Wen immediately entered the Imaginary Space. To superpower users, this state would just appear as a green phantom, but ordinary people couldn’t see it at all.

This was to prevent frightening the ordinary people who knew nothing of such things. Unfortunately, there was no one left here for Wen Wen to scare. The air was filled with the stench of decay, and green-headed flies buzzed about haphazardly, making a revolting humming noise.

If Wang Junyi hadn’t found Wen Wen back then, his family’s house would probably also resemble this scene.

Wen Wen picked up the phone, which displayed a simple string of digits—the number for emergency services, sadly the call was never made.

Dark bloodstains and marks of despair were visible all over the floor and walls, but Wen Wen saw no bodies. Where those bodies had gone, he didn’t want to think.

From the traces left behind, it seemed that the creature was a type of demon akin to a wild beast, and probably not very strong.

The demon had left clear signs when it departed, which Wen Wen could track, but instead of doing so, he flipped open the booklet left by Wang Junyi and dialed the second number.

Each untransmitted person had intervals that spanned several days at least, and their transformations might not follow a fixed timespan, so there was still a chance for the second potential victim to survive.

The call connected successfully, and Wen Wen breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that someone answered the phone.

Before Wen Wen could ask any questions, a gentle voice came from the other end of the line, "Hello, my husband is ill and can’t answer the phone. I’m taking care of him. Could you please call back in a few days?"

"I am a good friend of his, and since he is ill, may I come over to see him?"

A chill flashed in Wen Wen’s eyes; this phone number belonged to the second husband who had failed to forward the message. The wife on the phone should be the second victim, and the fact that the phone’s owner couldn’t answer the call meant something very clear to Wen Wen.

"I’m sorry, but I am alone taking care of him and really don’t have time to entertain guests. Could you come back another time?" The wife on the other end of the line politely refused.

Wen Wen snorted and then said in a flirtatious tone, "You said you’re there all by yourself, right? Then I definitely can’t miss out. Just wait, I’ll be right over... and I brought a gift, I’m sure you’ll love it."

At this moment, on the other end of the line, sat a scantily clad, seductive woman.

She had sharp horns on her head, wings on her back, and a heart-shaped tail that swished back and forth.

Upon hearing Wen Wen insist on coming over, her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance, and she hung up the phone without hesitation.

Had it been up to her nature, she would have let Wen Wen come over to have some fun. But orders from above dictated she not cause any complications, so she wouldn’t rashly let a strange man come over.

Besides, the private world she was currently enjoying wasn’t too bad.

Tied up across from her was a pale man, trembling slightly, bound with a red silk scarf. This man was her husband, and he had been tied up like this for three days.

In the past, this man always complained that she was too unromantic. Now, she would let him thoroughly experience a passion he had never known before, until his death!

She licked her lips, and as her husband watched in terror, she approached him.

But at that moment, the phone rang again. The woman, teeth clenched in anger, thought of bringing the caller in for a similar treat as that of her husband.

However, just as her hand touched the phone, a strong hand reached out from inside it, grabbed her cheek, and lifted her straight up!

"I’m here. Did you wait for me like you should have?"
