Chapter 347: 345 Chapter: Going Home

Knowing that someone was applying to change their code name, and also knowing that they could customize dolls here, who else could it be but Xun Qing?

"This worn-out old guy, previously acting so righteously as if you’re so upright and I’m such a pervert. Now, you actually come to me for a doll through this anonymous method. Do you think I can’t recognize you just because you’re in disguise?"

Wen Wen instinctively wanted to send a message to tease a bit, but quickly stopped himself, thinking he shouldn’t be too cheap—what if the person ignored him?

So Wen Wen sent a few more words.

’Sure, but you have to pay.’

A moment later, a photograph and some information arrived in Wen Wen’s hands. Wen Wen was slightly startled when he saw the photograph.

It was an old photo of a girl in a down jacket. The girl was not beautiful, but her smile was extremely bright.

She was holding someone’s hand, but the photo did not show what the person looked like. However, from the calluses on that person’s hand, Wen Wen felt it must be Xun Qing!

Because only those who practiced swordsmanship would have such calluses.

Wen Wen raised an eyebrow, feeling that Xun Qing’s purpose for making a doll was not what he had thought.

Then he snapped his fingers, and the magic mirror Gadro appeared in front of Wen Wen.

He placed his hand on the mirror, and naturally, the current location of the woman appeared. Wen Wen was slightly shocked.

It was...a tombstone!

According to the inscription, her name was Ning Xia, died thirteen years ago, and her husband had erected the monument for her, but the husband’s name was left blank.

And the location of this tombstone was in Shengjing City!

"Making a doll of his deceased wife... what a pitiful person."

After considering, Wen Wen took these requirements to Xu Hai and specifically requested him not to add any fancy functions, just to make a plain doll.

Then Wen Wen sent another message to that person.

’The cost of making it is 100 yuan...’

On the other side of the terminal, Xun Qing saw the message and sighed deeply while lying in the chair, his thoughts unknown.

...

After delegating the tasks., Wen Wen arrived at a cell in the Disaster Area and started to get busy.

This was his chosen workshop, dedicated to his research and making; after continuous battles, many of his items also needed updating.

He needed to recreate a rune short sword and transform the red cloak into something he could wear, and he also needed to add a sheath to the Ice Longsword.

After a long period of busyness, Wen Wen finally finished all his tasks, stretched his back, came out of the Sanctuary, got into the car, and ordered Three Cubs to drive to Lu Gang City.

Lu Gang City is a coastal city, named after a port called Lu Gang, where it is said that in ancient times, fishermen who went to sea from this port had to pray to a sacred deer for safety.

And Wen Wen’s home was near the port of Lu Gang City.

As the car entered the unchanged Lu Gang City, Wen Wen, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at the scenery of his hometown and suddenly felt a bit afraid.

For years he had resisted going home, and although he had now resolved the psychological knot, he still felt uneasy.

What exactly he was afraid of, he could not say clearly.

The car stopped in a somewhat old residential complex, where many elderly people sat chatting downstairs, a common sight in these older neighborhoods that often housed an abundance of senior residents.

Wen Wen got out of the car, with Three Cubs clinging to his arm, heading towards his former home, located at Unit 302, Building 5, Block 3. He was about to enter the building when someone called out to him.

"You’re Wen Family’s boy, aren’t you? It’s been several years since you’ve been back."

The speaker was an elderly woman, of whom Wen Wen still had some memory; she lived opposite Wenwen’s Family and they often interacted.

Seeing this elderly woman, Wen Wen smiled and said, "Grandma Li, long time no see."

Grandma Li closely examined Wen Wen’s current appearance and then remarked with emotion, "It hasn’t been easy for you, child, to be so young and... alas..."

The two chatted at the door for a long time, after which Wen Wen finally went upstairs. His conversation with Grandma Li helped rekindle the feelings he had when he lived here, easing his fear of home gradually.

Upon reaching the door, he took out his keys to unlock it. As he pushed the door open, he felt a slight resistance, causing his eyebrows to furrow,

following the resistance, he noticed a black line, barely thicker than a strand of hair, tethered to a matchbox-sized signal transmitter about a meter away.

As soon as the door was opened, whoever set up the device would receive a message.

"Revenge? Debt collection? Or..."

Wen Wen removed the small machine, gave it a cursory look, and realized it was disposable with no real technical complexity. He had used similar gadgets during his time as a detective.

"If it were something more sophisticated, I could have traced the signal back to its source, but this..."

Wen Wen simply crushed the small machine in his hand, then dismissed it from his mind. If the past didn’t find its way back to him, he’d treat it as if it had never happened.

The room, uninhabited for years, was filled with dust, clearly showing that no one had entered for a long time.

He picked up a photo frame from a shoe cabinet by the door, wiped off the dust, and sighed as he looked at the group photo.

Then, he began to sweep little by little with a broom. He could have cleaned more effectively using his superpower, but he chose not to because that was how he used to do it.

During the cleaning, he found many of the items he frequently used in the past. He chose a few that held deep memories and placed them into the Sanctuary, planning to carry them with him from now on.

After everything was tidied, Wen Wen lay down on his parents’ bed and fell into a deep sleep.

The sensation of sleeping at home was strange; his mind was filled with various jumbled thoughts, yet he felt inexplicably at peace, and the guardedness that Wen Wen always held deep inside loosened a bit.

After tonight, he would hire a housekeeping company to regularly come and maintain the place. Though the house had been uninhabited for a long time, Wen Wen planned to keep it indefinitely.

Perhaps one day, when Wen Wen the Demon Hunter was weary, he would return to live here, and as long as this home remained, Wen Wen’s soul would never be hollow.

Thinking thus, he drifted deep into sleep.

That night, he dreamed of cheerful childhood times, of family outings, and of...

This sleep was the only one throughout the years where Wen Wen smiled.

It wasn’t a twisted smile but a very warm one...

The next morning, two loud birds perched side by side on fruit trees in the complex, noisily chirping and causing no end of annoyance.

Wen Wen abruptly opened his eyes amidst his slumber, glaring fiercely out of the window.

He sensed that someone was spying on him!
