Chapter 317: Chapter 315: Awakening

The Poker Soldiers collapsed to the ground, like a pile of corpses.

After Sifumo had left for about ten minutes, one Poker Soldier pushed the others aside and stood up.

This person was Li Dazhuang.

Li Dazhuang blankly looked at the other fallen soldiers, then with empty eyes, he checked their breath one by one. After confirming they were all alive, he picked up a body with a pierced chest.

Their task as Poker Soldiers was to patrol and to handle corpses.

Bodies would rot in the town, affecting its beauty, so he needed to take this body to the processing center.

In fact, they were transporting a body just before, but during the process, someone fell from the sky.

Now, all of Li Dazhuang’s actions were carried out according to rigid routines, so when faced with such a situation, his first reaction was not to report it, but to continue his mission.

Carrying a person seemed to have no effect on him; he still strode energetically.

Soon, he arrived at a closed courtyard and, after pushing open the door, he saw a large pit in the center of the yard.

The pit was full of dense cockroaches, each at least the size of a lighter, their mass piling up to create a skin-crawling sight.

This was the place where they processed the corpses. These cockroaches would consume the bodies completely, leaving not a trace behind.

The closer he got, the more uncomfortable Li Dazhuang felt, with his temples pounding wildly as if warning him not to go any further.

His memory told him that this was a perfectly normal behavior. The creatures in the pool ahead would help them clean the town, and all he needed to do was complete his mission, which was the sole purpose of his existence.

But his body, his instincts, were telling him not to approach, that it was dangerous!

In the midst of this great conflict, Li Dazhuang still approached the pit, looking at the insects inside, and lifted the corpse.

At that moment, he suddenly awoke, cold sweat instantly covering his body, soaking his poker suit.

"Why am I here, and what am I doing right now? Where’s Tao Wen? I... I..."

His head felt like it was going to explode, memories forcibly implanted began to fade, and his true memories took over.

But during this process, the cockroaches in the pit had grown impatient, swarming out towards Li Dazhuang.

If Li Dazhuang had obediently thrown the body in, he wouldn’t have been in any danger, but now that the cockroaches poured out of the pit, both Li Dazhuang and the body were nothing but food to them.

The cockroaches surged onto Li Dazhuang’s body at an inescapable speed, biting his poker suit to a pockmarked state. An unparalleled terror struck at Li Dazhuang’s heart.

He stood up and shook himself frantically, every second insects were crushed and pinched to death under his movements, but this did nothing to the vast number of the swarm.

These were not ordinary cockroaches, but Magic Bugs from the Inner World that devour humans.

Struggling in vain, Li Dazhuang finally gave up resistance, knelt on the ground with his eyes closed, and let out a hoarse roar.

As he roared, he found the world seemed to become quiet. Anticipated pain did not come, and the insects on his body all fell to the ground. The bugs retreated to two meters around him, forming a circle with a diameter of two meters with him at the center.

And all those insects faced him, their wings under their carapaces trembling slightly, not seeming ready to attack, but rather looking as if they wanted to flee at any moment.

Those insects, it seemed like they were afraid of him!

"Why would they be afraid of me, unless... unless I have superpowers now!"

The superpower that Li Dazhuang spoke of was actually the ability of a superhero from the movies he watched. As a high school student, who hasn’t dreamed of being a hero?

But dreams are just dreams; Li Dazhuang was very clear in his mind that it was all fantasy, and it couldn’t possibly exist in reality.

Yet the experiences in this town told him that there might indeed be powers that transcended reality, and the way those insects feared him could mean he had become a special being!

He swallowed hard, stood up, and attempted to take a step forward. The cockroaches also darted back fiercely, not daring to come within two meters of him.

This emboldened Li Dazhuang; he walked toward the body that was being gnawed upon by the Magic Bugs, and all the bugs on the corpse scattered away.

"Since I have this power, then I can’t let your body be eaten by the insects."

He was about to move the body away when he suddenly stiffened.

The morning light shone on him, revealing a clear shadow on the ground, and there on the shadow over Li Dazhuang’s head... was another person’s silhouette!

Li Dazhuang instantly woke up with a shock, realizing that it wasn’t him Li Dazhuang that the insects feared, but the shadow on him!

He mechanically turned his head to look and saw a thick yellow-green smoke emanating from his back. This smoke formed a yellow-green monster above his head, as if it were crouching behind him.

Upon seeing him turn around, the monster revealed a grin uglier than a cry.

Li Dazhuang had not expected that what had allowed him to escape from the insects was something even more terrifying—he couldn’t stand it anymore and rolled his eyes, passing out on the spot.

The monster scratched its balding head, with only a few hairs on its scalp, not understanding why his master fainted just because it smiled at him...

...

A small figure appeared out of nowhere midair, then plummeted straight down, face toward the ground.

Then she jumped up on the spot, rubbing her nose and checking her direction, and headed towards Fairy Tale Town.

Through the surrounding walls, she could see houses of distinct styles, so she knew this must be her target destination.

As she approached the walls of Fairy Tale Town, she was spotted by two Supporters, one lean and one slightly plump.

The slightly plump Supporter came over, crouching next to Bai Xiaomiao and said with a kind smile, "Little sister, did you take a wrong turn? There’s been an accident up ahead, and this area is temporarily off-limits."

In his eyes, Bai Xiaomiao was just a cute little girl running around in a little white rabbit pajamas, and he didn’t notice that Bai Xiaomiao was an outlier.

This was Bai Xiaomiao’s ability, she could appear in front of anyone in the most harmless way.

Those weaker than her would find her extremely cute and let down their guard, but if they were stronger than her... then she truly posed no threat at all.

Bai Xiaomiao stared blankly at the Supporter for a moment, then licked her lips; she was getting hungry.

Although the Sanctuary always supplied her with meat, those cooked meats weren’t nearly as enticing to her as the flesh of a living human.

"Uncle, I hurt my leg when I fell just now, can you carry me home? My home is right over there," she said with teardrops at the corners of her eyes, pointing to a house not far away.
