Chapter 313: Chapter 311 Black Hound
After getting off the car, Sifumo looked at Wen Wen’s sports car with envy nearly spilling from his eyes.
Especially the fact that a snake could drive, it made him even more jealous; if he had such a pet, maybe he wouldn’t get lost all the time.
"Why are you staring at my car like that? You, a directionally challenged person, couldn’t drive it anyway," Wen Wen said with a mocking curve on his lips.
Sifumo sighed, "It’s because I can’t have it that I continue to long for it."
The Association residence in Songtao City was a large dog farm, surrounded by fierce large breeds. With these guard dogs, ordinary people would find it hard to guess what was really going on inside, perfectly concealing the existence of the branch to the public eye.
Places like these often attracted dog thieves, but within just two years, the dog farm had become a no-go zone for all dog thieves.
Steal other dogs, and at most, you get caught and have your legs broken.
But steal from this dog farm, and you might just disappear without a trace.
"Strange, I’ve never seen breeds like these dogs before, it’s as if..."
Peering through the gate, Sifumo stared at a few black dogs as tall as a man’s waist. These dogs had broad shoulders and were exceptionally muscular, very different from ordinary dogs.
Sifumo didn’t doubt that these dogs, working together, could truly kill a tiger!
"They carry the scent of the Inner World; they likely come from there, or perhaps they are hybrids. Do you also study dogs?" Wen Wen picked up the conversation, he could tell the origins of these dogs with just a sniff.
"I’ve always been searching for traces of supernatural powers. So I previously took on a case about a monstrous hound, which turned out to be the work of someone using hallucinogens. But thanks to that case, I became familiar with all the dog breeds in the Federation," Sifumo said nostalgically. To him, the time spent searching for supernatural powers was worth reminiscing.
Wen Wen looked at him with a strange expression. If this guy weren’t so directionally challenged, with his investigative skills, discovering supernatural powers should have been easy.
After checking out the dogs, Wen Wen handed over his ID to the doorman, Daye, and the two of them gained access to the branch.
The first step in their plan for both of them was to understand the situation in the branch; at least they needed to have a concrete understanding first.
"Why would a dog farm used as cover be raising dogs from the Inner World? Does this mean..." Wen Wen walked ahead, while Sifumo mumbled behind.
This annoyed Wen Wen, who turned and said to Sifumo, "On this trip, you’ve been analyzing everything you see, you even analyzed how much I urinate from an iced tea bottle in my car. Why do you have so much free time?"
Sifumo said with a wry smile, "It’s a professional habit of mine. My brain just never stops. If you find it inappropriate, then I won’t talk to you about it."
Occasionally on the road, unheeding fierce dogs barked crazily at the two men, but those few strongest black dogs lay in a corner, displaying a submissive posture to them.
To them, with blood of the Inner World canine lineage in their veins, seeking advantages and avoiding risks was instinctual. They could sense the strength of Wen Wen and his companion.
"No wonder they keep such dogs here; they sure have sharper eyes than the local mutts." Wen Wen chuckled lightly, then saw a Demon Hunter coming out to greet them.
The woman had dreadlocks and wore earrings, her skin dark and lacking luster, and her face was full of worry.
Upon seeing Wen Wen and his companion, she forced some energy into her voice and said, "You two must be the Rangers here to handle that case. May I ask which one of you is the pervert and which is the Great Detective? Do you want to rest here first, or..."
"Who we are is none of your business right now. Why is it only you here? Where is everyone else?" Wen Wen noticed that this woman was the only superpower user around, and supporters were scarce.
The woman’s eyes once again showed her sadness: "They are all at Fairy Tale Town. Including our captain, we have already lost five... no, six Demon Hunters in that town. Please, you must save them."
"Wait, after this case was reported to the Association, you shouldn’t have gotten involved. Why did you still risk going in?" Sifumo frowned and asked.
"The captain wanted to rescue people, and up to now, the place hasn’t looked dangerous... you’ll see for yourselves once you go there," she said, her expression flickering, perhaps hiding something, or maybe just overwhelmed by sorrow.
However, Sifumo seemed to suspect the Hunters Association of Songtao City—if one looked from that perspective, this woman did appear suspicious.
The two continued to interrogate the woman, who answered all their questions, and afterwards, they obtained all the information they needed about Paradise from her.
Before they left, Sifumo squatted in front of a large black dog and casually remarked, "These dogs are quite impressive; I’ve never seen any as majestic as these."
The woman didn’t think much of it and answered directly, "Oh, these are the pups the captain brought back three years ago. They seem to have some Inner World creature’s bloodline, ordinary dogs can’t compare to them. They are the captain’s treasures. After getting them, the captain began to treat us all a lot colder."
"Three years ago... was it around July or August of that year?" Sifumo speculated.
"Approximately, I think it was around that time. How did you know?" the woman asked in surprise.
Sifumo smiled faintly and headed straight for Wen Wen’s car. Wen Wen pondered their conversation for a moment, then suddenly nodded in realization and also got back into the car.
If this was not a coincidence, then Sifumo’s suspicions were rather reasonable.
Wen Wen had underestimated him before. To have secured the second place in the second phase of the assessment, he indeed was no ordinary person. If this guy weren’t so directionally challenged, he would likely be a quite formidable Ranger.
"I thought you’d ask me what I had found."
Sifumo, surprised as he saw Wen Wen get into the car and do nothing but prompt Three Cubs to drive after their questioning, asked.
"That’s what the ordinary person would do, but I am no fool. Previously, you mentioned that Fairy Tale Town showed frequent demonic anomalies over three years, and the local Demon Hunter squad did nothing. Then, after the outbreak, Song Ling broke the rules by forcibly entering a dangerous area and disappeared."
"The biggest coincidence is that Song Ling brought back several pups with Inner World blood from somewhere right when Fairy Tale Town was established three years ago... The bloodline in those dogs is very strong, likely direct relatives of some Inner World monster."
"You suspect there is a connection between the Fairy Tale Town incident and the Songtao City Hunter squad, but this evidence isn’t enough!"
Wen Wen did not like to jump to conclusions when evidence was incomplete.
Leaning back with a confident tilt to his lips, Sifumo declared, "Now it’s impossible to conclude. However, after eliminating all possibilities, the most improbable one must be the truth!"
