Chapter 310: Chapter 308 New Task
After seven days of training at the headquarters, Wen Wen felt that staying there offered him limited further improvements.
Moreover, many things were inconvenient to do here, with too many powerful individuals around and too much for Wen Wen to conceal.
In this time, even Zhangsun Jing had captured two monsters, so Wen Wen had no reason to continue loafing around; he wanted to go hunting.
So, he started to browse through the hunting terminal for tasks suitable for himself.
Previously in Furong River City, Wen Wen would just handle whatever cases he encountered and would often find himself with nothing to do, but now the situation was different. As long as Wen Wen wished, there would always be tasks available for him.
Not only were there tasks to do, but also the luxury of choice. He could select supernatural cases he enjoyed dealing with.
Each task involved at least a Disaster Level superpower event, which would allow Wen Wen’s strength to be fully utilized without wasting time on unchallenging missions.
"Let’s see what kind of tasks are available for me..."
"A plague in a deserted village transforms people bizarrely into twisted plants... I don’t like plants."
"Traces of the Flame Demon found in a volcano on Whale Fishing Island in the Capital District... This one’s not bad, but several Rangers have already taken this mission. I don’t like sharing spoils with others; having it all to myself is best for me."
"Huge worms have emerged underground in the Mengxin Grassland, tsk, this one’s quite good, but I’ve just come out from underground and am not keen on going back below for now."
After being selective for a while, Wen Wen set his eyes on a case that appeared interesting to him.
"A scenic small town in Songtao City, Dongshan Province, where one can enter but not leave. Several local Demon Hunters have already been lost here... Presumed to be the influence of Disaster Level strength, with no signs of spreading or traces of bloodshed so far."
"Songtao City... that’s quite close to my home, isn’t it..."
...
A few days ago, within a shanty area in Songtao City, hundreds of residents were rounded up on the streets by armed Supporters, all wearing a fearful expression on their faces.
People had started dying here several days ago, and many wanted to flee, but the area had been sealed off and no one could leave.
This inevitably led the residents to suspect the worse, thinking a plague had broken out, which was why the authorities had quarantined them here.
Jiao Xinlei, with her ponytail and black uniform, eyes shimmering with a peculiar gleam, weaved through these residents.
After observing everyone, she pointed to a man in a sleek suit and said, "He’ll be the next to die, so the thing is on him."
Upon her completion, two Supporters walked over, grabbed his arms to cuff him.
The man resisted fiercely, shouting at the crowd, "I don’t understand what you’re talking about, but I warn you, I work for Kowei Group. I came here for demolition negotiations, and I just arrived today. Whatever you’re doing, the person you’re looking for certainly has nothing to do with me."
He struggled intensely, and the two well-trained Supporters couldn’t subdue him.
Just then, gunshots rang out, and both his legs were blown through with holes, silencing the other onlookers in fear.
A man in a dark green suit and a monocle, face remaining calm, holstered his gun and asked Jiao Xinlei in a stern voice, "Are you sure it’s him? If it’s not, you’ll cover the compensation."
This man was Song Ling, the captain of the Demon Hunter squad in Songtao City.
Jiao Xinlei yawned, "As long as the range you’ve provided is correct, then that thing is definitely on this guy."
Song Ling nodded and ordered the man with the broken legs to be taken away. Before leaving, he said to another Demon Hunter, "Don’t let any of these people go. Observe for a week after things are over."
Not far after taking the man away, they came to a deserted alley where several Supporters had prepared a cage big enough for a person. Then they violently stuffed the man into the cage.
The man howled in the cage, unbearable pain from his knees making it impossible to endure, snot and tears streaming down his face. He looked at the people around him with a pleading gaze, hoping they would let him out.
His emotionally charged performance evoked a look of pity on the faces of the surrounding Supporters.
But even so, that which needed to be done had to be completed, for dealing with such Monsters only this method could be used.
A host possessed by such a Monster would die at the forty-eighth hour, with no signs beforehand.
After the host’s death, the Monster would instantly parasitize another ordinary person within a hundred-meter radius in a manner not yet understood.
The only way to prevent this parasitism was to lock it in a cage made from a supernatural material before the host died.
Unfortunately, although such cages were not rare, they couldn’t be used to detain so many people. In such densely populated areas, it was very difficult to contain the Monster.
Song Ling said coldly, "Do it."
A Supporter standing by, took out a gun and aimed it at the man’s head.
"Don’t kill me, I didn’t do anything, I’ll do whatever you want..." The man’s body shrank back as far as it could, but there was nowhere for him to hide.
"Stop pretending. From the moment you moved into this person’s body, he was already dead. Make your move." Song Ling said indifferently, and the Supporter did not hesitate to pull the trigger.
The bullet pierced the man’s head, and he fell down in despair.
After the man died, nothing happened, and the corpse didn’t undergo any abnormalities. The Supporter’s face suddenly turned pale—had he truly killed an innocent?
Song Ling patted his shoulder, placing his hand on the cage with composure, as green energy radiated from his hand, enveloping the entire cage.
Only then did the Monster’s shape reveal itself. It was a creature only slightly larger than a baby, with a human-like upper body, a row of insect-like appendages under the arms, and a tail resembling a worm.
The creature was completely transparent. If not for Song Ling’s energy, its shape would have remained unseen.
"That’s right, it’s this thing. Take care of it. Keeping it around is a curse, every minute and second." Song Ling said dispassionately.
The Monster looked gloomily at everyone and said in a deep voice, "Humans, even if you kill me, what then? I have left my eggs in a host. As soon as I die, those eggs will immediately hatch, and in no time, another one of me will appear!"
The Monster, seeking to bargain for a sliver of life with its eggs, looked at Song Ling with a hint of plea, "As long as I don’t die, the hatching will be delayed if..."
Before the Monster could finish, Song Ling had already reached into the cage and grabbed its neck!
Then he simply snapped it.
Until its death, it didn’t understand why this human hadn’t listened to its terms and instead killed it.
