Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 297 - 295
Chapter 297: 295
Amidst their tedious banter, the two gradually approached the core of the Underground Labyrinth.
It was impossible to discern directions here, but Wen Wen could distinguish based on the aura which areas had denser Monster concentrations.
Coming to this place that was said to seal a Catastrophe Level Containment Item, even if Wen Wen didn’t intend to provoke that item, he wanted to take a look.
Moreover, the location to which Wen Wen was teleported was probably closer to the periphery of the Underground Palace, where even Disaster Level monsters were relatively rare.
During this process, several Disaster Level monsters approached them, and Wen Wen and Miao Miaomiao took turns attacking, basically dealing with one each, and Wen Wen had also more or less understood Miao Miaomiao’s abilities.
Her ability was called ’Beast King,’ which allowed her to transform into various ferocious beasts, granting her the strength of those beasts, making it a very flexible power.
Of course, those beasts were not ordinary animals but Superpower Ferocious Beasts of her same Level, like Leopard Demon Yao, Snake Demon Yao, and the like.
However, every gain comes with a loss; the more types of beast powers she used in combat, the more she had to live according to those creatures’ habits for a time after the battle.
And her feline form was her most commonly used one.
Sitting on Wen Wen’s mount, Miao Miaomiao swung a fleshy tumor back and forth.
"You really have a way, following you the monsters come to us on their own, I don’t know how long it would have taken me alone to complete the assessment, plus it’s so dark and scary here."
Her ability to use various beast powers made Miao Miaomiao’s close combat strength insanely powerful, but at the same time, it limited her other convenient abilities.
For instance, none of her transformable beast forms had the ability to see in this kind of environment, rendering her effectively blind even with open eyes.
"Heh, you’re scared, but the ones that should be scared are those monsters," Wen Wen retorted.
Miao Miaomiao’s combat style was even wilder than the monsters, a huge contrast to her delicate appearance, which actually quite suited her intellect.
As the two chatted idly, the ground began to tremble, and they both shut their mouths at the same time; this time, a powerful monster was upon them.
The monster didn’t show itself at first. What appeared was a thick tongue covered in sharp spines, as thick as a bucket, that shot out like a spring. Wen Wen and Miao Miaomiao reacted quickly and dodged immediately.
But Wen Wen’s mount wasn’t so lucky; it was cleanly cut in half by the tongue!
"What a pity, the first of its kind in the tribe to adapt to life under the light, gone just like that." Wen Wen mourned his mount for a second, then cut off the tumor on its forehead.
Then, Wen Wen watched vigilantly in the direction from which the tongue had appeared, squinting slightly. If a single tongue could be so powerful, just how formidable could its body be?
And then, the giant creature that Wen Wen anticipated slowly emerged from the shadows. It had a body structure very similar to Wen Wen’s mount, even larger and more robust than the one Chu Wei had encountered, with thick muscles covered by heavy scales, and its tail sported three poisonous spines.
Seeing a Disaster Level monster finally appear, Wen Wen and Miao Miaomiao exchanged knowing glances, each discerning the elation in the other’s eyes.
Although fighting lesser monsters was safe, it was indeed quite dull. Plus, presenting ten Disaster Level tumors wouldn’t be good for their reputation.
Wen Wen licked his lips and asked Miao Miaomiao, "You or me?"
Miao Miaomiao stretched her body, and her hair turned into a pattern of yellow and black stripes, the markings of a tiger.
"Let’s both do it. When facing a Disaster Level Monster, it’s better not to be too arrogant. As for the tumor, whoever contributes more gets it. Next time, the tumor goes to the other person."
"Tsk, that’s settled then. Here I thought you, Tiger Girl, would rush to handle it yourself. I didn’t expect you to still have a sliver of reason," Wen Wen said, feigning surprise as he looked at Miao Miaomiao.
"I’m not as stupid as you think..."
Before Miao Miaomiao could finish her sentence, Wen Wen suddenly sprang into action, his body instantly transforming into a flash bang, emitting a dazzling light, causing both the monster and Miao Miaomiao to cover their eyes.
Next, Wen Wen drew his short sword, channeling days’ worth of accumulated Sword Qi into a blinding blade of light, and with a powerful momentum, he slashed at the beast.
The ornate sword sheath could only store a limited amount of Sword Qi, at most equivalent to Wen Wen’s full-power strike using a sword technique, but the advantage was that it didn’t require the use of Wen Wen’s own energy.
The sharp Sword Qi surged toward the monster’s head, but even though its eyes were affected, it didn’t rely on sight to perceive its surroundings, so it quickly reacted, moving its body to the side.
But it was still struck by the Sword Qi. In the relatively confined space of the Underground Palace, its massive body became a hindrance, and even with its dodge, it remained within the attack range of the Sword Qi.
The beast’s arm was hit, its huge claw cleanly severed by the Sword Qi and fell to the ground.
After landing a successful hit, Wen Wen pressed the attack; his left hand opened, light converged in his palm, and a gigantic Light Spear formed instantly.
Then, his arm flashed green as he channeled a great deal of strength into it and, taking advantage of the momentum, hurled the Light Spear at the monster’s head!
Unfortunately, this Disaster Level monster wasn’t so easy to defeat; it roared furiously and charged forward, its hard skull actually smashing the powerful Light Spear to pieces.
And its head had merely a scrape, oozing a bit of blood that was negligible.
Wen Wen felt his teeth go sour with the futility of it all; even if it just stood there and let him attack, it would still take some effort to bring it down.
"Damn, your head is so hard, you must be the legendary Iron Head kid," he muttered under his breath.
After the quip, Wen Wen, wielding his short sword, darted beneath the monster and engaged in close combat.
Despite its massive size, the monster’s reactions were not slow, exchanging blows with Wen Wen, but it could not inflict any real damage on him.
After all, its abilities were too simplistic, possessing only raw physical strength.
By now, Miao Miaomiao’s eyes had recovered, and she stood to one side, eyes tearing, her teeth clenched in anger as she watched Wen Wen.
"This guy is such a-pervert! Springing that on me, such a man is doomed to be lonely for life!" she exclaimed.
No sooner had they agreed on who would take the spoils based on effort contributed, than Wen Wen pulled this stunt, blatantly revealing his thoughts.
Thus, in Miao Miaomiao’s eyes, Wen Wen had become a petty and despicable man of low tactics.
But in truth, Wen Wen didn’t have so many ulterior motives; it was simply because Miao Miaomiao was his subordinate, and he didn’t want his subordinates to outshine him.
Miao Miaomiao took a deep breath, then let out a roar at the monster.
"Woaaah... Woaaah..."
Wen Wen felt goosebumps all over his body and his movements became slightly stiff, as if he was intimidated by a natural predator.
The monster fared even worse; it tucked its tail between its legs and then, realizing what happened, became even more furious.
This was one of the few abilities Miao Miaomiao had outside of hand-to-hand combat, ’Beast King’s Roar’, capable of intimidating all living creatures, and it was her revenge for Wen Wen’s earlier flash bang to her eyes.
