Chapter 296: Chapter 294: The Big Pig’s Trotter
The quiet and dark underground labyrinth seemed to have undergone changes that hadn’t been seen in many years.
A rhythmic piece of music flowed through the silent underground palace.
’Simply because you are too beautiful, too beautiful, too beautiful. Simply because you are too beautiful, too beautiful, too beautiful...’
Wen Wen lay atop the body of a monster, holding a wine goblet in his hand, occasionally flicking a few drops of fresh blood onto the body of the monster.
Beside him was a speaker the size of a watermelon, which he had taken out from the sanctuary.
Stimulated by the blood and the music, many monsters that originally would not have approached were now drawing near to Wen Wen.
After walking some distance, Wen Wen found himself surrounded by a group of small monsters. A preliminary investigation revealed that most of these monsters were at the Calamity Level, and some did not even reach the threshold of that level.
Wen Wen’s eyebrows lifted slightly, then he turned on another device next to the speaker,
It was a disco ball light, and a chaotic spray of light suddenly shot out from it, causing the many small monsters surrounding Wen Wen to become instantly disordered.
Then, Wen Wen pulled out ’Pack of Wolves’ and activated its splitting mode, starting to shoot at those small monsters.
After emptying a few clips, there were no longer any small monsters gathered around Wen Wen.
Although these monsters had power levels similar to superpower users, they only matched in physical strength, lacking the odd abilities of superpower users and ordinary monsters from the outside world, making them actually weaker than monsters of the same level under normal circumstances.
However, these monsters were highly adapted to the pitch-black environment, and they were present in vast numbers, making them a nuisance to superpower users.
It was precisely because close to two hundred Assimilation Realm superpower users had come that Wen Wen dared to be so bold.
If it had been just him in this dark space, daring to act like this could have led to him being torn to pieces by a tidal wave of monsters within minutes.
While pondering, Wen Wen suddenly spotted another monster behind the small group of monsters; it was roughly the same size as the one beneath him.
"Quick, chase after it!"
So, the monster controlled by chains frantically pursued its own kin.
...
The hunt had gone on for a while, and Wen Wen had already hunted down five Disaster Level monsters, confining one of them in the sanctuary. Capturing five more would suffice to meet the requirement for the assessment.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t encountered a Disaster Level monster, leaving him with an abundance of unreleased energy.
Suddenly, Wen Wen came to a halt, gazing at the monster beneath him, lost in thought - he had noticed something quite horrifying.
The eyes of the monster beneath him had enlarged, and even the color of its pupils seemed to have changed; its body too had undergone subtle changes.
No longer bothered by the dim light on Wen Wen’s body, it actually adapted quite well to such a level of light, having evolved from a completely dark-dwelling creature into one that could handle environments with faint light!
"Not only are there a vast number of these monsters, but they are also capable of undergoing targeted evolution to adapt to their environment!"
This ability was not all that novel for superpower users, but the fact that the entire species of monsters possessed this capability was truly frightening.
If they were to break free from this labyrinth, then the monsters that entered the water would become useful, those adept at jumping might grow wings, and those with sharp claws might burrow through the soil...
They were a species truly capable of taking over the entire Earth, and as long as that Catastrophe Level containment item was present, these monsters would keep being born without end!
No wonder the Hunters Association would build a large base for just one containment item. If not managed properly, it really would be a colossal disaster!
As he marveled, he sensed a wild qi rapidly approaching him, giving Wen Wen the impression that it was more beast than human.
"Looks like there’s a new monster coming our way, its strength is probably—Disaster Level!"
Wen Wen’s lips curved slightly upwards, finally there was a monster worth his effort to fight against. Constantly dealing with those little shrimps was almost making his body rust.
After waiting a little while, Wen Wen saw a ferocious beast, resembling a cheetah, sprinting over at the speed of lightning.
"The environment of the underground shouldn’t breed such monsters..."
He had just had this thought when the figure was already drawing close to Wen Wen, shouting, "Light, it’s light! I’ve finally found light, woohoo." And then the figure attempted to jump onto the back of Wen Wen’s mount.
Because the other party was moving too fast, Wen Wen didn’t have time to consider the meaning of her words. He directly stretched out five fingers, and beams of light shot out.
He was now using the Angel of Universal Light physique, which allowed him to freely control the light, each beam capable of causing significant damage.
The figure nimbly dodged the five beams of light, then stopped and put up a hand signal to halt, shouting, "Don’t hit me, I’m one of you, meow."
Only then did Wen Wen get a clear view of the newcomer. This person sported a yellow-haired coat with spots, comedic whiskers on both cheeks, and limbs that resembled cheetah’s paws. Aside from that, she was a quite standard beautiful girl.
Wen Wen hadn’t recognized her because when she moved at high speed, she resembled a cheetah, and her aura felt more like that of a ferocious beast than a superpower user.
Who would have thought that this person was actually Miao Miaomiao!
Wen Wen retracted the light, curiously watching her. Why did she look different every time he saw her?
Seeing that Wen Wen was no longer hostile, she jumped onto the back of the mount, sitting beside him. Then the characteristics of the beast on her body disappeared, and she transformed back into what Wen Wen used to see her as on the outside.
Wen Wen thoughtfully watched her: "Tiger, leopard, are her abilities about turning into wild beasts? Then, perhaps before she joined the Sanctuary, the downside of her abilities was that she would transform completely into a wild beast and couldn’t revert back to human form for a while. Now, she takes on a beast-human form when using her powers and can revert back to human form at any time."
For Wen Wen, who had seen Miao Miaomiao’s previous form, guessing her abilities wasn’t difficult.
Afterward, without much communication, the two naturally joined forces to hunt.
Wen Wen didn’t mind Miao Miaomiao taking action with him because the essence of this assessment wasn’t competition. As long as one fulfilled the assessment’s requirements, they could leave. Thus, cooperation was often the best choice.
But Wen Wen soon felt that agreeing to her joining him might not have been a good idea; she was just too noisy.
"Hey, how come you emit light?" Miao Miaomiao poked Wen Wen’s lower back curiously and asked.
"Because of my ability," Wen Wen replied coldly.
Miao Miaomiao continued to ask, "Then how did you think to control monsters to find monsters?"
"Because I’m smart," was his terse answer.
Wen Wen still didn’t reply with more than a few words. He planned to present himself as a very cool person in front of Miao Miaomiao.
This was because he had met her in a different form before and didn’t want her to notice his identity by piecing together clues, especially since her intuition was very strong.
"Do you have to be so cold? You were sneakily watching me earlier, meow. Men really are all pigs," Miao Miaomiao said with disdain.
He had indeed been spotted by her at the plaza earlier.
In defense of men’s dignity, Wen Wen angrily responded, "Nonsense, you women are the pigs!"
Miao Miaomiao transformed on the spot. Her hand became a little pig’s trotter covered in pink skin, proudly saying to Wen Wen, "That’s what I am, meow."
Wen Wen was left speechless...
