Chapter 263: Chapter 261: The Bizarre Hospital Ward
Wen Wen sighed and no longer focused on the sound resembling a cat’s cry.
If he wanted to listen, Hu Youling was willing to shout it especially for him.
Having toured the main building with everyone, they all began to leave Wen Wen’s side one after another, including the chirping Liu Jiaojiao siblings.
They were there to have fun, not to truly explore, so they had no interest in following Wen Wen aimlessly.
When Wen Wen began to observe each of the psychiatric wards, the only person following him was Zhu Haiyang.
"Everyone knows that the scariest part here are these wards; it would be a wasted trip not to take a look," Zhu Haiyang remarked.
Wen Wen looked at Zhu Haiyang with a smile and then continued his search.
Zhu Haiyang shuddered and rubbed his arms, wondering why it seemed even colder than before.
So he followed Wen Wen closely, not daring to stray too far—a ’Great Detective’ always instilled a sense of security.
Room after room, each ward was different, as if they were cages that once imprisoned demons, making Zhu Haiyang instinctually feel uneasy.
Up to now, Wen Wen had not discovered anything abnormal, but his interest in the place grew even more.
Merely from the arrangements in the wards, Wen Wen could piece together the patients’ appearance in his mind.
Each ward here had its distinguishing features, some covered in bizarre symbols, while others were filthy.
The wards on the first and second floors were passable, but upon reaching the third floor, the atmosphere became noticeably oppressive, and Wen Wen showed a smile.
He stood at the doorway of the first ward, looked inside, and sighed, "I thought there would be nothing left here, all just things to fool people. I didn’t expect this ward to still look the same as it did six months ago."
Zhu Haiyang looked at Wen Wen with surprise, "How do you know that?"
Wen Wen pointed at the ward in front of him and said, "Only a real psychiatric patient could draw these kinds of patterns."
Zhu Haiyang stared at the ward full of various oil paints, moving his flashlight here and there, scratching his head and saying, "There doesn’t seem to be anything strange here."
"You don’t think it’s strange because you’re only seeing part of it," Wen Wen said.
Wen Wen took Zhu Haiyang’s flashlight and placed it upright in the middle of the ward. The bright light shone on the ceiling, illuminating the whole room.
Zhu Haiyang stepped into the ward and looked around again, just about to tell Wen Wen that there was still nothing odd when he suddenly felt a wave of nausea.
He seemed to be in a completely asymmetrical world, where those eerie oil colors moved in front of his eyes like kaleidoscope patterns.
"Heh heh..."
Wen Wen turned off the flashlight, and after grabbing the trembling Zhu Haiyang, Zhu felt somewhat better. Shocked, he looked at Wen Wen and said, "What is going on!"
Observing just a part of the patterns was one thing, but once the entire cell was taken in, it became apparent that nothing there was symmetrical. The oil colors made everything in the cell look twisted.
Moreover, that sense of distortion made him sincerely afraid.
"You don’t know, and how should I know? Apart from that patient, I guess nobody can comprehend the distance of this ward," Wen Wen said.
Wen Wen tossed the flashlight back to Zhu Haiyang and then prepared to check the next ward. As he walked out of the doorway, he said to Zhu Haiyang, "Actually, I still recommend that you go back now. Otherwise, you might have an accident soon. There are a lot of things here you shouldn’t see."
Zhu Haiyang bit his lip, but still followed Wen Wen closely, not willing to leave even a step behind, though his gaze became much more reserved.
When Wen Wen first left this hospital, he had a profound memory of that cell covered with patterns. Within those distorted paintings, it seemed as if there resided some sort of strength.
At first, he didn’t know what it was all about, but now it was crystal clear.
Those paintings bore some Superpower strength!
That faint Superpower attribute was very strange, unlike the strength of superpower users, and also different from the usual Containment Items. It seemed to rely entirely on the paintings themselves.
Zhu Haiyang followed behind Wen Wen, somewhat puzzled as to how Wen Wen had discovered the abnormality of that cell. After all, from beginning to end, Wen Wen had never used a flashlight!
The ward was faintly illuminated by the sparse moonlight from outside, which prevented total darkness, but made it difficult to see anything clearly.
But this time, he didn’t ask Wen Wen any questions, merely following behind and observing him.
Next, they encountered several strange wards, some covered with blood handprints of various sizes, others bearing clear impressions.
Each ward here brought immense pressure to Zhu Haiyang, as if devils had once inhabited this place.
"None of the patients who could stay here were ordinary mental patients. Some were rational, some were insane, but they all exhibited phenomena that are difficult to explain."
"Do you know, there was once a guy here who claimed to be the Observer. He boasted that he could see anybody’s fate, but he never accurately stated another person’s fate," Wen Wen said, pointing to one of the rare tidy wards.
Zhu Haiyang frowned and said, "That’s just delusion."
"I used to think so too, but later on, my views changed a bit."
Wen Wen didn’t continue, and Zhu Haiyang didn’t press further.
Wen Wen was pleased with his reaction and continued to look at these cells.
"Although these people had significant deficits in certain aspects, in my view, they were closer to something than any ordinary person."
And also closer than superpower users...
Of course, Wen Wen didn’t say that last part out loud.
Zhu Haiyang had been silent since the previous ward, as Wen Wen would explain each new ward they encountered. He seemed very familiar with this place.
Familiar as if he had been one of the patients confined here!
Well, indeed he had spent some time here...
Wen Wen, who spoke so freely, made Zhu Haiyang feel a chill from the bottom of his heart. It would have been fine if Wen Wen were just explaining to him, but what was terrifying was that with his explanations, this place became even more sinister and frightening.
He had explored here more than once before, but never felt like this. Could it be because of the detective in front of him?
And how did he know so much about this mental hospital?
In the midst of his confusion, they quickly reached the end of the third floor, and the staircase leading to the fourth floor was locked with an iron door.
"It seems our exploration of this hospital ends here. Let’s go back and meet up with the others," Zhu Haiyang almost sighed in relief upon seeing the chains.
"Tsk, nobody told me there were off-limits places when I signed up to join the team," Wen Wen said with a smirk, his mouth cracking into a smile as he looked at Zhu Haiyang. "Is that so, Mr. Supporter?"
