Chapter 180: Chapter 178: A Bizarre Family

Having torn apart a composite monster and crushed it underfoot to prevent its regeneration, You Han wiped some dirty blood from his mask and looked gravely toward the mansion ahead.

This was the fifth mansion he was to explore; if it were the source of the corruption, his strength might not be enough to ensure a safe retreat, but he had to enter, for he was a Demon Hunter.

Touching the position of the signal flare, he leaped several meters from the ground and entered the mansion through a window.

Inside the mansion, the situation was the same as outside, with dark green web-like substances covering everything, filled with a disgusting green slime.

Compared to the other mansions, though, this one was eerily quiet.

Based on his experience, within the range of the corruption, every place where people were found was the lair of different monsters, so it was impossible for there to be nothing here.

You Han slowly made his way from the second floor to the first, and as the stairs creaked, he suddenly saw someone cooking in the kitchen.

He approached the kitchen slowly and saw a monster with the vague outline of a woman.

This monster was over three meters tall, with four slender and elegant arms, and eight long, fair legs arranged like octopus tentacles.

Each leg was in itself perfect, barefoot and full of grace on the floor.

To some people, they were a year’s worth of entertainment, able to play for eight years.

But when these eight legs were attached to the same body, it became rather horrifying.

The woman’s body was still harmonious, but behind her were several terrible tentacles haphazardly stitched together, sending shivers down the spine.

At the moment, this female monster was cooking crayfish.

On one of the hideous tentacles behind her, there clustered numerous live crayfish, still wriggling as if alive with snapping claws.

On the front of the tail were the crayfish heads with pincers, and on the back were the crayfish tails.

She simply put that tentacle on the frying pan and started cooking it directly.

After the crayfish were cooked, she plucked the shells off without changing her expression and stuffed the meat into her mouth, chewing with an ecstatic look on her face.

For every crayfish she ate, another would regenerate on her tentacle.

The sight of this self-sustaining bizarre spectacle made You Han’s scalp tingle.

He had the feeling that this tall female monster was stronger than all the other corrupted monsters in the mansion area, at least Disaster Level!

Though there were many monsters here, he had never encountered a Disaster-Level monster before.

Therefore, this place was very likely the source of the corruption!

He rested his hand on the signal flare, ready to quietly leave the place and launch the flare when his expression suddenly changed, and he leaped up abruptly.

In the instant he leaped up, the floor where he had been standing was cut by a dark green stream of water!

He saw a Demon Hunter holding a longsword slowly appear in front of him, poised to attack.

He had seen this Demon Hunter before, one of the ones who had broken into the Jiusan District with him.

An assistant of Bing He, by wielding that longsword, he could produce slashes like streams of water.

But now, the Demon Hunter’s gaze was hollow, his body covered in green patterns, clearly not in control of his consciousness.

The Demon Hunter held the longsword horizontally in front of him, with a green-tinged stream gathering on the blade, and then, with a gentle swing, the Water Blade easily cut through everything in its path.

With just that one cut, You Han knew he was no match for this Demon Hunter now.

His gaze became more intense; the strength of this Demon Hunter had been comparable to his, and even if there were hidden strengths, the gap shouldn’t have been this big.

The situation was urgent now, with no time left for contemplation. He made a split-second decision to abandon the fight and flee at once.

What she needed to do was just send a signal, to let everyone know that the source was here.

However, she did not see, another Demon Hunter with a face covered in green lines, aiming a sniper rifle at her...

...

"Should I go in or not... This place is very likely the source, but if I don’t go in, I’m really curious."

The appearance of the little boy brought an early end to Wen Wen’s hesitation. He would face the soldiers with soldiers, and face the flood with earth. Now the whole city was in crisis, and the anomaly here was so obvious that, even if there were dangers, he had to steel himself and barge through.

He pretended to be surprised and ran excitedly into the villa. At the same time, the Rune Dagger was hidden in his sleeve, ready to be drawn for cutting down someone at a moment’s notice.

After entering the villa, Wen Wen found that, including Zhou Nuo, there were four members in this family.

A middle-aged man and woman, who were probably the homeowners, and a young girl with a few freckles who must be the little boy’s sister.

"Uncle, my name is Zhou Nuo, what’s your name?"

The little boy approached Wen Wen, looking up innocently and asked.

"Me? My name is Wu Wang," Wen Wen said, squinting his eyes.

Although he did not know what the problem was here, Wen Wen was sure there was a problem, so he gave Wu Wang’s name.

That way, if there were any malicious curses targeting names, they would be transferred to Wu Wang.

"Wu Wang uncle, will you play flying chess with me? It’s really thrilling," Zhou Nuo pleaded with hope in his eyes.

"Eh... No."

Shopping with women and playing games with children were the things Wen Wen liked least.

Zhou Nuo pouted and started to whine, grabbing Wen Wen’s arm and refusing to let go.

Scratching his head, Wen Wen forcefully suppressed the urge to kick Zhou Nuo away and said to Father Zhou, "Could you please control your child and stop him from bothering me?"

"He’s just a child, play with him for a bit," Father Zhou said with a smile.

Wen Wen scoffed, "I’m a child too, so it’s fine if I beat him up, right?"

Perhaps it was Wen Wen’s intimidating tone that scared Zhou Nuo, as he let go of Wen Wen’s arm and scampered off to play somewhere else.

If he hadn’t let go, Wen Wen would have been capable of hitting a child.

If Zhou Nuo were a normal child, Wen Wen would read his name backward.

After Zhou Nuo left, the atmosphere became much more harmonious.

Apart from the sulking Zhou Nuo on one side, it was as if nothing had happened, and the other three people’s attitudes towards Wen Wen didn’t change at all.

They were like rigid NPCs, stubbornly adhering to their character settings.

"Mr. Wu, your arrival today is good news for our family, so let’s celebrate tonight," Father Zhou said to Wen Wen with a smile.

"What’s there to celebrate?" Wen Wen asked, puzzled.

"In this world, only by uniting together can we survive. Now that you’ve come to our house today, from now on, we are a family."

After saying this, Father Zhou turned around and went back, as the family began to prepare dinner.

"To celebrate in this kind of situation... there’s definitely something wrong with this family."

All four family members got busy, and Wen Wen thought for a second, then sat on the couch to observe the oddities of this family.
