Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 175 - 173 Soaring into the Skies
Chapter 175: Chapter 173 Soaring into the Skies
After deciding to make the capture, Wen Wen’s chains violently contracted, and it was only then that the Eagle Monster noticed a black chain had somehow been wound around its foot.
Desperate to free itself from the chain, the monster found the chain extremely sturdy and utterly unbreakable.
"Without the ability to fly, you’re nothing but a lamb waiting to be slaughtered," said the Containment Officer.
The Eagle Monster, having lost the power to fly, displayed extraordinary bravery and ferocity. However, as it was not a creature of the land, it struggled for only a few minutes before Wen Wen easily subdued it.
Wen Wen’s Sanctuary gained another Disaster Level Eagle Monster and Calamity Level Rabbit Demon Yao respectively.
Following routine, Wen Wen tested the abilities of both the Rabbit Demon Yao and the Eagle Monster.
The Rabbit Demon Yao was unremarkable, with terrible constitution, its ability making Wen Wen look pitifully out of place when combined with his inherently eerie aura, creating a completely incongruous effect.
However, the Eagle Monster genuinely delighted Wen Wen. It didn’t have any special abilities, but when he switched to its constitution, a pair of golden eagle wings sprouted from Wen Wen’s back!
The wings fluttered slightly behind him, and without needing to adapt much, Wen Wen took flight.
He could feel the powerful strength in the wings, capable of carrying him at extraordinarily high speeds!
The Sanctuary was too restricted for full use, so after waiting ten minutes to ensure he could switch forms at will, Wen Wen existed the facility.
This was his first time testing abilities in the outside world, but it couldn’t be helped as his new power couldn’t be fully utilized within the confines of the Sanctuary.
He crouched on the ground, and with powerful flaps of his wings, a strong gust of wind kicked up the surrounding dust, creating a storm akin to a sandstorm.
Due to the blood-red heart, Wen Wen’s physical constitution had been steadily improving. Combined with the Eagle Monster’s physique, he was much stronger than it had been.
Then, pushing off with his feet, Wen Wen shot up into the sky, spreading his massive wings, which made him resemble some sort of eagle-like creature.
The wind rushed past his cheeks, giving him an exhilarating rush unlike anything he had felt before.
"So this is what flying feels like." Wen Wen sighed to himself. The sensation of personal flight was different from the sensory experience of any monster’s constitution he had tried before.
It was as if he was now completely free.
Of course, he would be freer without clothes.
Then, with a mighty effort, he soared straight upwards, piercing through the cloud layer!
Hovering in midair, looking at the vastly different scenery from above, he mused, "Seems like flying does require clothes after all; otherwise, it would be too cold..."
Suddenly, Wen Wen’s hair stood on end as he dodged swiftly to the side. A bright bolt of lightning shot through the clouds, narrowly missing him.
Tiny currents of electricity ran through Wen Wen’s hair and the feathers of his wings, leaving him quite frazzled.
"To think someone would dare to ambush me, that takes some nerve!" With the recent thrill of flight, Wen Wen was feeling spirited and slightly inflated with pride. Realizing someone had attacked him, he instantly became combative.
With a flap of his wings, gliding like a giant eagle, he soared in the direction of the attack.
Flying along, Wen Wen sensed something amiss—the distance of the attack seemed far too great.
Moreover, the farther he flew, the hotter the badge on his chest became, as if he was approaching danger.
Wen Wen immediately stopped, the heat now was close to that from an ordinary Disaster Level monster, and it would be extremely unwise for him to approach with his current strength.
"I didn’t perceive the danger at first only because I was far enough away, but why would such a powerful monster attack from such a distant range..." he pondered.
As he contemplated, Wen Wen caught something from the corner of his eye causing the veins on his forehead to involuntarily throb.
"What the hell is that thing?" he exclaimed in shock.
A cloud mass several dozen meters in diameter was slowly drifting towards him from a few hundred meters away.
Within the dark clouds, lightning flickered, with bolts occasionally shooting out, resembling a roving thunderstorm.
"The lightning strike just now was a natural emission from that thing, not at all deliberately aimed at me!"
Continuing to look, Wen Wen noticed something writhing within the clouds, like a long snake, intermittently visible through the darkness.
"It’s about two meters thick, the length... who knows how long... and there are claws; it couldn’t be a dragon, could it!"
No sooner had Wen Wen spoken than the cloud was burst open, and the head of a huge mysterious creature with two pairs of antlers and long tentacles emerged, looking curiously at Wen Wen flying in the sky.
"I%...¥#..., is that really a dragon?"
As a bona fide resident of the Capital District, dragons had always been nothing more than auspicious totems in Wen Wen’s mind; he had never imagined that one day a dragon would appear before him as a monster.
"Becoming a superpower user even allows me to see such things. The choice I made back then was indeed correct. Only by advancing further on the path of a superpower user can I witness a more magnificent world."
While Wen Wen was reflecting on this, the dragon looked at him as if observing a rare species.
In the Qi Ling Mountain Range, its appearance usually meant that, aside from a few exceptions, no monsters dared to fly in the sky.
And it was the first time the creature had seen a human with eagle wings.
So, it stepped on the clouds and, with an eerie trajectory, flew rapidly towards Wen Wen.
"Don’t chase me, I’m just passing through."
Wen Wen didn’t have time to appreciate the totem; he spread his wings and took off running as fast as he could.
At this moment, Wen Wen remembered the diary of a Containment Officer that he had read before.
’Encountered a Wolf Demon Yao, slew it with a single sword strike; encountered a Catastrophic Dragon, battled with magic for eighty-one rounds, was outmatched, and escaped...’
Then turning around, he saw the dragon’s eyes glowing, gathering clouds and summoning lightning as it flew, striking most places it passed with lightning.
Wen Wen even saw a long-haired monkey basking in the sun get struck by lightning and turn into a Curly-haired Baboon...
"This, indeed, must be the Catastrophic Dragon..."
To think that the Qi Ling Mountain actually harbored a Catastrophic Dragon!
And that Containment Officer from a millennium ago had fought this primordial beast-like creature with just swordsmanship for eighty-one rounds...
"The twisted figures drawn at the back of the journal can’t possibly be sword techniques, can they? After I get back, I must practice them!"
The Catastrophic Dragon, though wingless, flew at an incredibly fast speed, occasionally spewing columns of lightning. It had chased Wen Wen for only a few seconds, but it was enough to exhaust him.
Seeing that he couldn’t escape, Wen Wen plunged straight into a pond more than twenty meters wide and immediately entered the Sanctuary.
He seldom used the Sanctuary in front of other sentient beings; any carelessness could lead to its exposure, so he had always been very cautious.
Seeing Wen Wen disappear into the pond, the Catastrophic Dragon let out a low roar and all the water and silt in the pond flew up into the sky, but Wen Wen was no longer there.
"Ao!"
The Catastrophic Dragon let out an angry howl, its claws reached into the pond and pulled out a huge catfish, several meters long, then stuffed it into its mouth before flying away leisurely.
As a Demon Lord of Mayhem within the Qi Ling Mountain Range, it had no interest in relentlessly pursuing a single human like Wen Wen.
However, following the principle of not leaving empty-handed after a chase, it had to grab something to eat.
After hiding in the shadows of the Sanctuary for an hour, Wen Wen crawled out of the pond to see the devastated scene; he sighed deeply.
Later, while picking up dead fish all around, he lamented:
"No wonder that senior called it the Catastrophic Dragon; this creature really freaking deserves to die."
"But if I had the constitution of this creature... hehehe."
