Chapter 171: Chapter 169: Rare Joy
Wen Wen walked to the entrance of the curly-haired baboon’s cell and observed it for a moment.
Then he noticed that it was scratching its bright red buttocks. After that, it even sniffed its fingers, utterly lacking the self-awareness of being a prisoner.
Wen Wen was speechless, as this was the calmest monster he had encountered after entering the Sanctuary.
"Since you’re so comfortable, just stay here then..."
Afterwards, Wen Wen headed to the Disaster Area Core, ready to test what kind of surprises these two monsters could bring him.
First was the curly-haired baboon.
As a Disaster Level Monster, besides its robust constitution, the curly-haired baboon possessed only the "Abandon Thought" ability, which Wen Wen was not going to try. He could only test its constitution.
Regarding its constitution, Wen Wen had great expectations because it was the only Disaster Level Monster he had met that could defeat him head-on.
Before starting the test, Wen Wen first brought several sheets of paper and wrote down a few math problems on them.
All these problems were pure calculations. By timing how long it took to solve them, Wen Wen could know if his intelligence had been affected by the curly-haired baboon.
After that, he transformed into the curly-haired baboon’s constitution.
Just after the transformation was complete, Wen Wen started laughing joyfully.
The muscular strength filling his body was so powerful that he knew without testing how formidable it was, much stronger than the vampire constitution.
It just lacked the vampire’s high speed, self-healing ability, and heightened senses.
But the enhancement to his body was too significant, absolutely surpassing the capabilities of the vampire constitution in head-on combat!
Using this body, upon entering the Critical State, Wen Wen might even be able to compete with weaker beings at the Assimilation level!
But... given the curly-haired baboon’s strength, the improvement shouldn’t have been this significant.
After a moment of contemplation, Wen Wen realized what was happening.
The curly-haired baboon’s strength greatly increased while using the "Abandon Thought" ability because it inherently possessed great strength but lacked the intelligence to harness that power.
Therefore, it was better off completely abandoning thought, thereby unleashing even greater strength.
However, Wen Wen’s intelligence was sufficient, so he didn’t need the "Abandon Thought" ability to fully wield its power.
This was truly an unexpected delight, and Wen Wen’s face broke into an uncontrollable smile, rarely seen this joyfully happy.
The smile was somewhat different from his usual demeanor, closer to a goofy grin...
Then, Wen Wen looked at the problems he had written beforehand.
He pondered for two seconds.
"What is this stuff? It gives me a headache just looking at it, don’t bother me!"
With a wave of his hand, Wen Wen tore the papers into pieces and scattered them all over the floor.
"How did I never realize before that this Sanctuary is so interesting?"
Wen Wen wandered here and there, occasionally discovering something new that fascinated him for a long time.
From a day many years ago, Wen Wen hadn’t felt this purely happy for a very long time, enjoying pure happiness, not because he obtained or accomplished something surprising.
Happiness comes in different forms.
About half a day had passed before Wen Wen realized that he shouldn’t continue playing this way, considering he still had to test the Centaur constitution and abilities. With much reluctance, he finally ended that state.
After ending it, the silly smile on Wen Wen’s face slowly turned into a sneer, then his expression became blank, and finally, it morphed into a bitter face.
He looked at the pieces of paper all over the floor and said with a bitter smile, "What just happened... Was I affected by the Intelligence-Lowering Halo?"
What had transpired during that half-day was vivid in his mind, every action he took then made him want to curse.
"Once I switched to that constitution, my intelligence completely left me. I should use that constitution sparingly..."
"However, this constitution isn’t without its uses. If one day I’m about to lose control, switching to that state might allow me to adjust back easily."
Wen Wen wasn’t too despondent; he truly hadn’t been that happy in a long time. Even though he wouldn’t voluntarily switch back to that state, he didn’t think it was all that terrible.
Next, he began testing the Centaur constitution and abilities.
Then he raised his eyebrows slightly; the Centaur’s situation was different from typical monsters. On the Catastrophe Gloves, the other prison numbers all faintly glowed, but the Centaur’s was somewhat dim.
"It really is different when I capture them myself."
After switching constitutions, Wen Wen discovered the difference; the Centaur constitution only had half the normal strength.
"That’s also normal. If there weren’t such restrictions, I could just keep developing Containment Officers and sit here waiting to become invincible..."
The Centaur constitution was of no use, but its ability, named ’Precision Shooting,’ was quite good.
Every Centaur was undoubtedly an excellent archer, and this ability was an innate skill of their race.
Although reduced by half, this ability was still very helpful to Wen Wen.
At least when shooting, he could be much more precise.
With a little practice, Wen Wen could even master more advanced techniques.
For instance, by rapidly shaking his wrist while shooting, he could fire arrows in an arc...
After completing all the tests, Wen Wen, stroking his chin, concluded, "It seems hiring more Containment Officers indeed benefits me greatly. These strange abilities, even reduced by half, can significantly enhance the diversity of my abilities."
Deciding to act on his conclusion that hiring more Containment Officers was beneficial, Wen Wen placed the Catastrophe Gloves on the Custodian Badge, and several bubbles appeared around him again.
With Gong Baoding’s experience, Wen Wen was not completely clueless about how to recruit Containment Officers.
This time, he needed to recruit those who had no connections with him, minimizing the risk of exposure.
When Wen Wen focused on these bubbles, he obtained information about the candidate Containment Officers.
He went through each bubble, discontent with them, as he didn’t want to recruit too many Containment Officers at this stage, so he had to choose well.
As his consciousness immersed in the fifth bubble, a scene emerged in Wen Wen’s mind.
It was a narrow, dim dungeon, where a young man in tattered clothes sat in the corner, his wrists and ankles shackled.
Yet, his eyes were bright, filled with hope for what was yet to come.
Outside the dungeon door, a woman draped in a grey robe spoke with a hoarse and unpleasant voice:
"Join us. You don’t belong to the outside world. You possess the true Profane Blood flowing in your veins; you should stand with us."
"All you need to do is nod, and you can leave this place, acquire endless wealth, and gain unimaginable power. And all this requires is just a nod from you."
