Catastrophe Containment Facility -
Chapter 100 Delayed Revenge
Chapter 100: Chapter 100 Delayed Revenge
Wen Wen, wearing his new Containment Officer uniform, descended the stairs with slight embarrassment.
"Cough cough, I came back late. It looks like everyone is in good health, no missing arms or legs, so I’m relieved. It seems that nothing happened while I was away."
He had agreed to help this family solve their problem tonight, but he had disappeared halfway through, and Wen Wen felt a bit embarrassed, although he had figured out how to resolve it.
"Where had you been before!"
Seeing Wen Wen return, Jiao Xinlei felt much more at ease. Even though she and Wen Wen were not very close, in this environment, Wen Wen was clearly the person who could make her feel the safest.
"I had some urgent matters," Wen Wen equivocated.
"You, where did you come from? Are you a human or a ghost?"
Mother Jiang trembled as she spoke. At dinner, they had specifically looked for Wen Wen, only to discover that he was no longer in the villa. They had thought Wen Wen had fled the scene after making tall claims.
But now, having disappeared for several hours and then reappearing from the second floor, it was not surprising that this beleaguered family was overthinking.
"Strictly speaking, I’m human."
Wen Wen casually replied, then stared at Jiao Xinlei as if trying to see right through her.
This woman seemed different, possessing a special aura about her, an aura related to death...
So... had she awakened her abilities?
He had only been gone for a few hours. What on earth had happened?
Wen Wen shook his head, deciding to first resolve the issues with the house. Afterwards, he would look into Jiao Xinlei’s problems.
Now that the Sanctuary had been upgraded fully, Wen Wen had gained many new abilities and his power had increased significantly, boosting his confidence to solve most problems.
He walked into the middle of the group and sat down next to the Human-Headed Dog, patting its head as he said:
"You can understand me, right? A family like this, why keep protecting them... Turn off your powers, I need to solve this problem completely."
The dog stuck out its tongue and licked him, looking at Wen Wen with a blank expression as if to say, I don’t understand what you’re saying because I’m just a dog.
Wen Wen gently patted the dog’s head, saying, "I’m not asking for your opinion. If you don’t agree, I’ll make you into dog meat soup. You know I have the capability."
"Ow ow ow."
The Human-Headed Dog stopped acting cute and stood up to growl at Wen Wen, sensing the threat from him.
"Don’t worry, every wrong has a perpetrator and every debt its debtor. As long as the main culprit repays what he owes, I won’t let anyone else be involved," Wen Wen assured.
"Detective Wen, what are you talking about exactly?"
Jiang Wenhu, seeing Wen Wen talking to a dog, felt a chill, and his talk of wrongs and debts further confused him. Could it be that the detective was really possessed by those things?
It wasn’t impossible, given that he had mysteriously disappeared before, and being alone in this villa meant getting entangled with those things!
Wen Wen ignored Jiang Wenhu and continued to the Human-Headed Dog, "By the way, do you have the ability to bind those ghosts in this villa, preventing them from escaping?"
The Human-Headed Dog barked softly, which was akin to nodding.
"Then I have a plan in mind."
Wen Wen stood up and said to Jiang Wenhu, "You might not understand what I’m saying, but your father should understand, right, Mr. Jiang Xusheng?"
Jiang Yusheng’s heart skipped a beat, and he said sternly to Wen Wen, "My name is Jiang Yusheng..."
Wen Wen shook his head and said, "Hmm... let me think about the timing, it was about twenty-five years ago, on the national highway near Shuangshan Town next to Furong River City, two double-decker buses collided and exploded, killing and injuring over a hundred people!"
"And what was the cause of the collision?"
"There were nails on the road, nails that had been deliberately placed there."
"Two buses traveling in opposite directions had their tires punctured by the nails at the same time, lost control, and crashed into each other!" Wen Wen gestured with both hands, representing the two buses.
Jiang Yusheng’s face twitched, and he forced himself to stay calm and said to Wen Wen, "What do you mean by that? This happened over twenty years ago, what does it have to do with me?"
"Please do not interrupt me."
Wen Wen glared at Jiang Yusheng and continued, "If I remember correctly, at that time, Mr. Jiang Xusheng, you were near the site of the collision, and you had a repair shop there, didn’t you ..."
Jiang Yusheng’s stance faltered, but he still forcefully said to Wen Wen, "Sir, do not speak of things that do not concern us."
Wen Wen’s expression remained unchanged as he continued, "You were the one who placed those nails. After the buses collided, some people died, but many did not."
"Right then, a gang of robbers, led by you, who appeared honest and kind, looted all the money from everyone on those two buses!"
"Even as some were begging you to rescue them, you remained indifferent, took all the money, and you were the first to leave those buses. Then..."
"You lit the fuel tanks while your accomplices hadn’t managed to get out of the buses yet!"
Wen Wen looked at Jiang Yusheng with an indifferent gaze, as if he were looking at a dead man.
"Only you know about this because all the other parties involved are dead now. Then, you changed your identity, started a family, and went unpunished, until you moved into this villa!"
Jiang Yusheng angrily said, "Detective Wen, if you continue with this nonsense, I must ask you to leave my house!"
"Mr. Jiang, saying you do not understand is useless!"
"Your family not understanding is also useless!"
"Because they understand and they remember!"
Wen Wen looked up, his eyes filled with extreme contempt as he stared at Jiang Yusheng.
"Frankly, if I had handled that case back then, you wouldn’t have had the chance to escape."
"Detective Wen, you must be mistaken. How could my father have done such things, he..." Jiang Wenhu tried to argue with Wen Wen, but his words were quickly cut off.
"You think you were just lucky, being able to rent such a villa at such a cheap price?"
"Even though this is a suburb, that price is ridiculously cheap. There is no such thing as so much luck in the world!"
"This villa was bought twenty-five years ago, and the owner’s name was... Jiang Xusheng!"
Jiang Wenhu stepped back two steps, looked at his father’s expression, and then sat down despondently.
He had been skeptical about it, but at the urging of his father, he just thought they had found a bargain, but now, seeing his father’s eyes, he was sure that what Wen Wen had said was all true...
"After twenty-five years, those spirits have come to seek revenge on you, Jiang Xusheng," Wen Wen emphasized, uttering that name.
Jiang Yusheng was somewhat unsteady, took out a cigarette from his pocket, and lit it tremblingly.
Except for those who had died, no one knew about the incident Wen Wen spoke of, and all the evidence had disappeared with that big explosion. As long as he didn’t admit it, no one could do anything to him.
However, the eerie experiences his family had endured for such a long time made him unsure whether to continue being stubborn.
