Chapter 1986: Chapter 599: Stele, Flame Demon, Elder Clinton

The Clan Chief Morey of the Dragon Lizard Clan, upon seeing Leonard Churchill and his companions agree to meet the Prophet, activated the Divine Temple’s restriction with his magic wand.

A grinding sound of stones echoed as a section of the obsidian temple’s floor sunk, revealing a staircase leading down to the sealing.

As soon as the entrance opened, it seemed to connect to the scalding mouth of a volcano, sending a wave of scorching heat rushing forward.

"Please follow me."

Clan Chief Morey gestured and took the lead inside.

Sophia Jones exchanged a glance with Leonard Churchill and, after a split second, followed without hesitation.

Leonard Churchill narrowed his eyes slightly and surveyed the surroundings before stepping forward.

No matter where he looked, he couldn’t perceive any trace of danger.

The group descended along the obsidian staircase, while the fire elements in the surrounding air gradually thickened to the point where it felt like flames were searing the lungs.

To Leonard Churchill and his group, it was harmless.

However, young Isabel and her friends had to constantly use their Curse Power Protective Barrier.

The environment hardly seemed friendly.

Clan Chief Morey likely knew the place they were heading to was dangerous and explained as they walked, "This is the ancestral land of the Dragon Lizard Clan. Normally, aside from me and the elders, no one is allowed in. You are the first humans in millennia I’ve known to be invited here..."

With this, he revealed the long history of the Dragon Lizard Clan.

Leonard Churchill listened, his interest increasingly piqued.

He had deciphered the sealing runes and murals carved on the surrounding rock walls.

...

The murals serve as common carriers of historical records in ancient civilizations.

The content was straightforward, depicting the conflict between the Lizard Race and a colossal Flame Demon.

It seemed that a great battle took place every once in a while.

The eventual outcome was always a mass casualty for the Lizard Race, leading to the demon being resealed.

Leonard Churchill was not only interested in the mural’s content but also paid attention to the craftsmanship of the carvings.

These carvings displayed distinct styles from various eras, as if spanning eons, crafted bit by bit by countless generations of craftsmen. Each stretch showed a slight variance in style.

Further along, the style of carvings dramatically changed; an overwhelming "ancient" aura emerged, indicating a gap in craftsmanship techniques.

Leonard Churchill realized that the seal within this cave likely predated the Lizard Race’s arrival.

The history it traced back to might be older than the Dragon Lizard Clan’s settlement here.

This was an ancient relic.

Clan Chief Morey also introduced, "As you can see, there is a very terrifying Flame Demon in this cave. Our Dragon Lizard Clan has guarded this place for generations..."

As they chatted, the view suddenly opened up.

They had stepped out from the staircase onto a platform resembling a volcanic crater.

The platform seemed empty, and the heat seethed visibly up the cliffside in the distance.

Darcy, Isabel, and David furrowed their brows against the flame-like fire elements, while Leonard Churchill and his friends gazed intently at the stone wall ahead.

Upon closer inspection, the stone wall bore scaly patterns akin to dragon scales.

Furthermore, this wall breathed "air".

It was a colossal living creature!

Before anyone could grasp the situation, Clan Chief Morey bowed towards the wall respectfully, "Prophet, I have brought the persons you wish to meet."

These words startled everyone: Was this the Prophet of the Dragon Lizard Clan?

Leonard Churchill slightly squinted, extending his sight, barely making out the silhouette of a gigantic Dragon Blood Lizard.

It was like a mountain, so massive its body filled almost the entire platform, blending into the rock wall.

The enormous creature seemed to be in slumber.

Morey called out again, and a crack slowly opened in the rock wall, revealing an amber vertical pupil.

Once the eye confirmed the position of the head, it was clear this was a horrifying giant lizard exceeding five hundred meters in length.

Despite its size, the "air" it exuded conveyed a weak, exhausted aura.

Furthermore, as soon as the vertical pupil opened, a stale, decaying breath wafted out.

Within that gaze lay the profound depth of an unfathomable wisdom.

With just one look, it seemed to pierce through time, past, and future, seeing through the six outsiders entirely.

Leonard Churchill marveled at the Dragon Lizard Clan having such a formidable expert, but then that wise vertical pupil suddenly turned void, replaced by a daze.

The rock walls slightly trembled, and an ancient voice asked, "Little one... who are you?"

Clan Chief Morey seemed accustomed to this situation and responded, "Prophet, I am Morey, the current Clan Leader of the Dragon Lizard Clan."

The huge dragon lizard appeared to ponder for a moment before saying, "Oh, it’s little Morey... I thought it was Yum, or perhaps those mischievous kids Goff. After all, you and your grandfather, and great-grandfather look exactly alike. By the way, where’s Soron? I haven’t seen him in a long time..."

Clan Chief Morey replied, "Four hundred years ago, my grand-grandfather passed away in the battle to reseal the Flame Demon."

The giant dragon lizard then said, "Oh. I almost forgot... Soron was a brave child."

Leonard Churchill and his companions found the conversation peculiar.

But they understood.

This "Prophet" seemed to be a forgetful old lizard.

Also, from this conversation, they discerned that the Prophet was very ancient.

Not only forgetful but somewhat muddled in memory.

Clan Chief Morey seemed to feel that discussing these matters in front of outsiders was inappropriate and reiterated the purpose of their visit, "Prophet, I have brought the people you wish to see."
