Chapter 987: Chapter 529: The Prestige Goes Without Saying_2

The incident from this morning was still vivid in their minds, and Yan Fei’s statement about the tiger’s urgency indeed had significant force—as a result, a group of people below quietly retreated quite a bit.

Yan Fei still found this bunch rather sensible, and the Headmaster continued his enthusiastic introduction, "Today, the park is only half open, we have sealed off this area. The zoo wasn’t open, just waiting for your grand arrival. You can rest assured, no one will come over."

Can’t you old folks stand a bit further away?

Muttering to himself, Yan Fei’s hand, initially moving to open the barrier, paused once more. Headmaster Old Wu hadn’t finished his introduction, but Xiao Qin quickly picked up on it, pulling the Headmaster aside and whispered, "Old Uncle Wu, Boss Yan’s tiger is really big, you better step back a bit too!"

Changing the subject with a smile, the Headmaster said, "Alright then, let’s all step back and let Boss Yan bring down our zoo’s son-in-law..."

"Right, right, right, hurry and bring it down so we all can have a look." Dissenting voices always exist, and someone spoke up, "This tiger is here to be a breeding tiger, it’s not just about talk. If it looks worse than those in our zoo, then it’s not fit for breeding at all! If it’s worse than the previous generation, why keep tigers at all, just raise a few cats!"

Several people were taken aback by these words, and Headmaster Old Wu’s face turned somewhat ugly, "Old Zheng, we can talk about this back at the office. Don’t let outsiders see us and become a laughing stock."

Yan Fei was somewhat confused, looking at this middle-aged man who seemed somewhat older, a sort of middle-aged to elderly person, this Old Zheng, not knowing how he had managed to offend him by bringing a tiger.

Xiao Qin, on the other hand, knew all too well—Old Zheng was just someone you couldn’t reason with.

Before Old Wu became the Headmaster, Old Zheng had been the Deputy Headmaster, and everyone expected him to become the rightful Headmaster Zheng after the previous head retired. Instead, Old Wu was parachuted in, leaving Old Zheng’s dream of promotion and a raise unfulfilled.

It was said that Old Zheng didn’t get along with the former Headmaster. So, when the old Headmaster retired, he didn’t recommend Old Zheng to succeed him—everyone speculated that the problem was his last name. Because the old Headmaster’s surname was Fu (meaning ’deputy’), and his, Zheng (meaning ’rightful’), it ended up that the Fu became the actual Headmaster and the Zheng remained the deputy. Considering the confusion, ten out of ten people would misunderstand when mentioned.

With promotion out of reach and retirement approaching, it was inevitable that Old Zheng would act more freely, showing little restraint in his behavior.

It was his idea in the first place to bring back the tiger, arguing that offering suggestions was easy since he wasn’t the one doing the work, so naturally, he would only propose ’good’ ones.

Because Xiao Qin had returned and ’greatly exaggerated’ the quality of Boss Yan’s tiger, Old Zheng felt this was Xiao Qin showing him up, close as he was with Old Wu—implying that since Old Zheng couldn’t manage to get the tiger himself, he was being evaded with such grand excuses. A tiger like a Wagyu, had he ever seen one? Did he really think all these years of his life had been wasted without any knowledge?

As one could imagine, this man always harbored some resentment, speaking in a condescending tone, which didn’t earn him any favors. Thus, he became increasingly extreme, taking even the most minor issues to heart—even when the person involved was unaware, he would remember it like a grudge.

Now, seeing everyone fawning over a ’petty capitalist,’ if he didn’t throw out a few cutting remarks, then he wouldn’t be Old Zheng.

No one truly understood his journey, but there he was, dropping such comments in front of everyone.

It was Old Wu and Xiao Qin who were put on the spot. Seeing Yan Fei stop his work, Xiao Qin quickly came over to urge him, "Boss Yan, please hurry, Tiger Da has been caged for a while, he needs to get some air!"

Glancing around and then hurrying off, he added, "I’ll go disperse the crowd around here, you go on with your work..."

To hell with whatever they think, I’m not serving anymore!

He was young, and although he disapproved of Old Zheng’s snide remarks, he let it be. But now, with such words spoken in front of so many people, clearly aimed at provoking him, it would be strange if Xiao Qin, new to the field, wasn’t upset.

With those thoughts in mind, he indeed started to disperse the crowd.

Headmaster Old Wu was helplessly embarrassed, offering Yan Fei a forced smile, "Boss Yan, you must be tired. I heard your tiger isn’t used to being in a cage, and we don’t dare to help given the situation. It’s really troubling you. There’s no rush to head back tonight; let’s have a proper drink together..."

Yan Fei now somewhat understood that there were some messed-up issues within their zoo. Not wanting to involve himself, he focused on unlocking the barrier. Xiao Qin called over a couple of familiar young people and directed the onlookers at the perimeter to disperse.

There’s never a shortage of onlookers, and with the zoo closed today and parts of the park off-limits, the curious abounded. The zoo wasn’t a secretive facility—if someone inquired out of curiosity, word spread swiftly that a new tiger was being introduced today.

The tigers in the cages looked listless all day, and everyone wanted to see if this new arrival was as spirited as those on the "Animal World".

Some spectators were locals who had heard the news and waited idly. Others were merely passersby, whose feet seemed to lead them of their accord to wherever a crowd had gathered.
