Chapter 915: Chapter 501: Not Alone_2

"Well, that’s not for us to worry about anymore!" The middle-aged man exhaled a thick puff of smoke, watching the roaring river. "I think this time he’s sort of establishing his authority. If it weren’t for that, who would have known that such a little place actually had a Cow flower company?"

"The name, heh! By now quite a few interested folks must be aware of it. I bet from now on, some folks will think twice before meddling with that area. It’s actually good in a way, his method of collaborative cattle-raising, if done right, could indeed lead everyone to wealth, just so long as he keeps at it..."

The middle-aged man didn’t finish his sentence aloud, concluding in his mind instead: "Even if he occasionally crosses the line, it’s not a big problem..."

In fact, the middle-aged man had access to even more information, which he didn’t need to spell out.

Yan Fei did act with a bit of flair this time. At first, he hadn’t given it much thought; he just felt annoyed that someone had come to provoke him, and taking ’revenge’ wouldn’t be satisfying if the ’enemy’ didn’t know about it—some things need to be known to have been done by oneself to feel truly at ease.

Only later did he realize that handling things this way could also establish his authority, making those who might scheme against him think twice.

So, after returning, he put on a confident front in front of Comrade Yang, hinting at the imminent misfortune about to fall upon them, and that he was well aware of it—this was sure to draw attention. He had disappeared for two days, then some photocopied evidence surfaced. He still had ’enemies’, and a bit of digging into whether he still had ’Kung Fu’ would easily trace back to him.

However, he probably didn’t anticipate that they wouldn’t even need to send him a pager message; they would simply arrive at his door right on schedule.

That was normal. If it hadn’t happened this way, Yan Fei might have underestimated them—if the middle-aged man had known this, he would probably be frustrated to no end. He thought Yan Fei would be returning home from his trip with others about now.

So, he decided to put in a bit more effort and personnel, to make a direct visit. The original idea was to show Boss Yan—a bit unbridled in this incident—the power from above, to let him know that if the higher-ups wanted to investigate him, they could find out everything, even how many times he wet his pants as a child.

Normally, this display of intimidation would likely work since the disciplinary committee usually deals with cunning individuals, even those who still harbour some hope when confronted.

But faced with Boss Yan, who grew up with the Five Sayings and Four Virtues and wasn’t too worldly, he didn’t have the complicated thoughts they imagined. He took their visit as a given—if there wasn’t a plan in place, how could he have even composed a ’storyline’?

Moreover, the guy felt completely justified, thinking that while what he did may have been over the top, evidence speaks for itself. Even though he knew he was spouting nonsense, nobody could pin anything on him—of course, this was based on the fact that what he did was irregular in method but right in direction, also considered a service to the people.

Yan Fei himself felt this way, that what he did was right. It didn’t matter what others thought; he had not left any incriminating evidence behind.

Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to think simply about things; at least this fellow had already put the matter out of his mind. He was shamelessly suggesting to his wife, "You’ve bought the clothes, now if you don’t put them on for a try, how will you know if they are comfortable or look good?"

Xu Xiaoyan had long seen through the seemingly concerned expression on his face and his hidden shameless intentions, and directly ignored him: "I was away from home for several days and the house needs cleaning. Either help out or stand aside and don’t be a nuisance. I tried on the clothes in the fitting room before buying them, they definitely fit."

She had underestimated just how shameless he could be. Yan Fei insisted, "When you tried them on, you just wore them for a bit. But when you run, you’ll wear them for at least half a day. How can long-term wear be the same as short-term wear? Put them on now and give them a try for half a day first."

"Move aside, don’t you realize how much you’re in the way?" The girl, with a rag in hand ready to wipe the chairs, tried to shoo away the nuisance.

"I’ll do it. You just go try on that outfit," Yan Fei said earnestly as he took the towel ready to wipe things down.

"Offering unsolicited help, huh!" She shot him a glance, revealing a sly smile, then turned to find another rag. "I’ll wipe the tables."

"You..." Yan Fei watched as his little scheme failed to succeed and switched tactics. "Hao Xingxing, go change. What if it’s uncomfortable after wearing it for a long time? Hurry, hurry. I’ll take care of all today’s chores, okay?"

"Dream on. Hmph, I know you too well." The girl scorned him. "You definitely aren’t thinking anything decent. Will you still do the chores after I change? Get to work, and we’ll talk after you finish!"

"So you’ll show me after I finish the chores?" Yanfei immediately perked up.

"Snap!" a crisp sound echoed.

The girl, hearing the noise, was instantly not going to let it go: "You’re so clumsy, can’t you be gentle?"

Yanfei had just gotten excited at her slight concession and, in his zeal, carelessly broke off a piece of the chair’s carving.

Looking at the piece of wood in his hand and then at the headless phoenix carved on the chair, Yan Fei casually tossed aside the wood scrap: "No worries, I’ll just make a new one later..."
