Chapter 894: Chapter 494 Provincial City Police_3

When he realized that these people had only brought him and a few henchmen, he was displeased and once in the car, he quietly asked, "Why didn’t you take everyone out, there are still a few from their city who came with me."

The leader replied quietly, "They’re from the same city, so it’s not our place to intervene, let’s head back and talk about it."

After thinking it over, he grew annoyed, "Fine, let them stay locked up a few more days to keep them from bragging in the future. They told me everything would be settled once I got there, and now look what’s happened to me..."

Those three chaps from the city would have cursed him out if they had heard this, especially the driver. He was just a chauffeur and hadn’t really been treated badly, nor was he likely to be.

But the other two were facing the possibility of being disciplined or even fired upon returning. They had gotten into this mess trying to please Young Master, and now not only were they suffering for it, but the guy even resented them.

However, they kind of had it coming. From the perspective of the folks at Sancha River, those who bring outsiders to cause trouble for their own people fall into the category of ’traitors’ and deserve whatever comes their way.

As Dang Wenzheng watched the men being led away, feeling utterly dejected, he called Yan Fei to report that the men had been taken away.

Yan Fei didn’t have much to say, as he was busy himself and hadn’t had time to think about what he should do.

Some folks from Guan Village had arrived at the farm, carrying sorghum made with sweet potatoes and corn, and some came with sweet potato leaves. The items weren’t valuable; they were tokens of goodwill from the villagers who had come to the market and dropped by the cattle farm for a look.

It just so happened that they ran into Yan Fei while he was there and gathered to chat with him for a bit.

Two cars had arrived from the Provincial City, but when they left, there were three—the same car Young Master had brought was also driven away.

Yet Young Master wasn’t in his own car this time; he sat in the police car, dirty and no longer the picture of spirited arrogance he’d had upon arrival. His eyes now burned with resentment, and he spoke to the leader in the back seat with venomous intensity, "Brother De, are we just leaving like this? You’re going to watch your cousin take such a big hit and leave without a word?"

The leader had no choice but to try to console him, "We’ve done enough. On the paperwork we brought, only your name is listed. We got lucky the local station didn’t understand and let us take you all. Let’s head back first and talk about it. If you want to get back at them later, isn’t that just a word from you?"

Doing someone’s bidding is always a hassle, and he didn’t want any more complications; he just wanted to get everyone back promptly. As for what happened next, he didn’t care—that’s just the way things go with this line of work. Being able to handle things so smoothly this time seemed lucky enough.

But Young Master disagreed, "No, I won’t be satisfied just leaving like this! We came with several people, and our car still has room for a few more. Why don’t we just go to that cattle farm and take the boss with us? Does that sound good to you?"

"Doing that on their turf isn’t wise. Let’s head back first," Brother De still wanted to leave it for later.

"It’s precisely because it’s difficult to handle things on their turf that we should take him to ours. If we show up with badges and take someone away, what can they do? Once the person is in our car and we get back to our place, we can do as we please, right? I’m telling you, don’t underestimate this cattle farm; I’ve done the math, and this guy is making quite a bit of money," Young Master now seemed rather quick-witted, even resorting to ’bribing.’

In the end, Young Master’s persistence and the fact that it was on the way convinced Brother De—it was right off the roadside, after all. They would just get out, take the person, and go. Once they got to the Provincial City, whoever had the person had the say—it was that simple!

Yan Fei exchanged a few words with the people in front of him and was about to see them off when a group of young men walked in. Upon seeing others already there, they cheered, "You guys are too sneaky, coming to pull strings with Boss Yan and not even calling us!"

These newcomers were from Huangtuwa, a place not notable for its yields but rich in land per capita and abundant in crops like sweet potatoes and corn. These young men also brought sweet potatoes, which gave Yan Fei a headache; he had no more room in the kitchen, and there was a long row of drying sweet potatoes by the riverbank already.

But the Huangtuwa folks visited quite often, and their relationship was good, so he continued to engage them in conversation. It was that damned village chief that had caused a rift between them, and Yan wanted to demonstrate with his actions that his issue was with the chief, not with the villagers; they were still friends.

The group had barely gathered and exchanged a few words before the police car leading the convoy arrived.

Three or four men got out and entered with a smile, inquiring, "Who’s the boss here?"

The rural youngsters, seeing uniformed officers and unsure of the situation, looked towards Yan Fei.

Yan Fei nodded, "That’s me. What can I do for you?"

"Move in!" The previously smiling leader’s expression changed instantly, and with a wave of his hand, his men charged toward Yan Fei.

Yan Fei’s expression darkened, ready to fight back, when a young man carrying sweet potatoes saw trouble brewing. He hurled the sweet potatoes at the leader and then lunged to grab him, shouting, "Brother Fei, run..."
