Chapter 893: Chapter 494 Provincial City Police Arrival_2

This change may not seem significant, but it actually speaks volumes.

This is what is commonly referred to as the ’wealth leader’ problem. The calves that Yan Fei distributed after the New Year have grown over half a year by now. The cattle farmers joyously lead them around every day or carry bags and sickles to cut grass. Walking on the road, they seem so happy their smiles could nearly turn crooked.

Raising a single cow can earn more money than farming. These days, a family with many members who farm over ten acres of land, after toiling to death and paying agricultural taxes and reserves, would not have as much money left over as a single cow is worth.

Those who raise cattle for Boss Yan can regularly attend cattle-raising knowledge sessions. Although what they learn might not always be applied, it feels pretty good to talk about it—they have a sense of collective pride. Moreover, they don’t worry about selling the cattle because everyone trusts Boss Yan would never shortchange anybody, whether that trust is blind or not.

The cattle owners in the village have formed a small group. Can those who don’t raise cattle help feeling envious?

Another issue is that currently, cattle raisers in Sancha River aren’t worried about being unable to sell their stock. The cattle farm will definitely give preference to locals when buying cattle, which is beyond doubt.

In the past, those desperate for money might not get a good price for their cattle, but now with the cattle farm purchasing over a hundred cattle monthly, whenever you bring them in, for those really in a bind and needing cash, the farm might buy an extra two, which is just a matter of raising them a couple more days—hardly a problem.

Having a cattle farm that consistently brings in money from outside and then spends it locally, cattle raisers sell mature cattle in exchange for calves, and with some money in hand, they spend it again. This is the prosperity of the economy.

For those who do business in town, they have already begun to feel this change.

Now, every move at the cattle farm is closely monitored by people including the recent case where the local police station arrested those who caused trouble at the farm, which has gradually begun to spread.

It’s just that no one knows the details until this morning, when two cars from Provincial City arrived at the town’s police station, one of them a police car, prompting some to realize something was amiss with this situation.

Take Zhou Dalian, for instance, who was across the street from the police station.

You could say he’s idle or that he’s very attentive; either way, this guy loves to keep an eye on the police station. He wouldn’t miss any movement there. Just as Dang Wenzheng was phoning Yan Fei to tell him about Provincial City officials coming to collect prisoners, Zhou Dalian also made a call asking if it was related to the cattle farm.

He seemed to know a lot, telling Yan Fei even more details, "I saw those two cars; one is a police car, but the other seems to be for transporting people and isn’t a police car. Sounds like they’ve come for someone, right? Boss Yan, you better be careful. These people can be unreasonable. They can take away the criminals without issue, but you’d best stay out of sight..."

Yan Fei was puzzled, "That doesn’t make sense. Legally, I’m the plaintiff. Besides, this case is local; even if they come and use some excuse to take the people away, how could they make trouble for me? Any handling would have to be done locally, right?"

"That’s not certain. They wouldn’t bother to be reasonable with us. Just stay inside the farm and out of sight. Anyway, strangers from outside won’t recognize you. If someone comes asking, you can just say you’re not there, and they can’t stay here forever. We’ve got to steer clear to sail for ten thousand years..." Zhou Dalian had the air of a sly military advisor; through the phone, Yan Fei could almost visualize his cunning look.

What Dang Wenzheng said on the phone was different. He said, "Brother Fei, I think they have taken the people away. The people they brought have documents, which I cannot understand, but they claim that these individuals have other complications in their jurisdiction and need to be taken back for investigation assistance. They brought stuff with official seals; should we hand over the prisoners to them or not?"

What could Yan Fei do? He couldn’t go to the police station and say anything now. If their paperwork was indeed all in order, there really wasn’t much the police station could say about letting them take a few prisoners.

After all, the law enforcement procedures at the town’s police station aren’t exactly meticulous. For instance, the detention of individuals is typically approved by the county after filing a request. However, usually, they just make a phone call to give notice, and the paperwork is handled afterward. Sometimes, detainees are supposed to be sent to detention centers but just get locked up at the police station for a few days instead.

But now Dang Wenzheng said they came with paperwork, so the police station couldn’t stop them from taking anyone. Yan Fei had thought they might use other means to take the people away, but they went straight for this approach.

So Yan Fei didn’t have much else to say; he just asked about the demeanor of the people who came.

Dang Wenzheng said it was okay; they didn’t seem to be looking for trouble, they were quite polite while holding the documents and going through the procedures.

With that in mind, Yan Fei had some clarity.

These people came up with an excuse to take the individuals away. All this talk of taking them back for investigative assistance was probably just a pretext to step down gracefully on both sides.

As for retaliation, that might come later; their immediate goal was to swiftly whisk the people away to avoid any downside from being in unfamiliar territory.

Thus, Yan Fei believed the situation Zhou Dalian described was impossible. Why would they make things complicated instead of smoothly getting people out, unless they were out of their minds?

This underestimated how low some people’s intelligence could go. If he were at the police station now and followed those cars, he would quickly learn just how low people’s IQ could plummet.

Inside the police station, as those arrested were being released, the Young Master saw the leader of the Provincial City officials, and he began to cry. However, his IQ was still in check at that moment; he didn’t blurt out anything.
