Chapter 888: Chapter 492: A Temp Worker’s Morning_2

Nowadays, the yard is not short of vehicles, with big trucks, small trucks, three-wheelers, and walk-behind tractors all around. With the yard being small, these are usually parked at the station. Anyway, they’re close by and pretty convenient.

The number of buses from the county to Sancha River Town has also increased, though the big buses have been replaced with smaller ones. These smaller buses are privately owned, carry fewer passengers, and thus make more trips, which actually benefits the locals.

But there are only three or four at most. As one arrives, another leaves, so the most you’ll see at the station at one time is two buses, and they usually just wait for passengers outside the station entrance. The completed parts of the station, where there’s no cement flooring, are still covered in lush grass. It’s convenient for Boss Yan to park the vehicles there, so they don’t get in the way at the free-range cattle farm.

After strolling around the greenhouse area and seeing there was nothing amiss, he then went to work on the construction at Dinosaur World. These days, the greenhouse area hardly needs anyone around. The five folks from Guan Village just pop over in the mornings for a quick look-see and, if there’s nothing up, they head off to other work, unless there’s some unexpected bad weather brewing, like a sudden downpour, in which case they’ll stay to keep watch and prevent any accidents.

However, as autumn has arrived, that kind of weather is unlikely, so there’s no need for constant vigilance.

On Boss Yan’s turf, there’s no fear of outsiders barging in, especially when there are tigers and black bears tied up—no one is foolhardy enough to seek trouble here.

After spending a whole day and night working on Dinosaur World, the next morning he received a pager message from Officer Dang Wenzheng at the police station. Those guys waited for Yan Fei to arrive before they began leisurely notifying the families and workplaces of the people they had detained yesterday.

The police station in Sancha River had always been quite competent in their procedural work. For those caught trying to force sales and causing trouble, they had conclusive evidence and, according to regulations, had to detain them first. Once someone is detained, their family or employer must be notified within twenty-four hours, so informing them the next morning about yesterday’s arrests was perfectly reasonable and legal.

Yan Fei was there to examine the confessions, to see what sort of connections these people had and to make preparations. However, after looking through them, he was none the wiser.

Dang Wenzheng called the Industry and Commerce Bureau with an air of authority, "Hello? Which district’s Industry and Commerce Bureau is this? I’m from Sancha River Police Station. Does your department have a certain someone?"

"Yes, that’s him. He came here yesterday with a group trying to force a sale at one of our enterprises and when that didn’t work, he tried to make trouble and got arrested by our station. Mhmm, we are handling the case right now, just notifying you that he’s been detained. Yes, Sancha River Police Station. Please inform his family, and that’s all, no need for anything else!"

With a click, he hung up the phone and dialed another number. Whether it was to an office or a family member, he was impressively assertive. It might have been a temporary job, but as long as everything was done by the book, one could stand tall and have nothing to fear.

As he continued making calls, a slight issue cropped up. Dang Wenzheng was heard asking, "Hello? What did you say? You’re his father’s secretary? And informing you is enough?"

"Certainly not. Can you make decisions on his behalf? I need to speak to a family member. Can you check if his father is available? He’s in a meeting? Never mind then. It’s fine if he’s not available right now, just have him call me back when he can."

"What phone call are you talking about? It’s this very phone I’m using right now! What kind of place are you working at that you don’t have caller ID? Skimping too much, right? Forget it, forget it, let me tell you. Do you have a pen and paper nearby? As a secretary, surely you’re not unprepared without those, right? If you have them, good. Then write this down and remember to have his father return the call after his meeting. Hang up now."

The sounds of beeping started coming from the other end of the line. Inside a certain institution in the Provincial City, a young man dressed sharply in a suit and nearsighted glasses suddenly found himself fuming, his face contorted with anger.

Who was this person on the phone with such audacity? Had they not inquired as to what kind institution they were dealing with? He glanced at the caller ID on his phone and nearly exploded with rage. Just asking for a call back, and the person on the other end had already labeled him stingy without even knowing where he was from? What kind of manners was that?

Though outraged, he knew the gravity of the situation. The tone of the call indicated something was off, most likely that the leader’s salary-dependent troublemaker had messed up again! As a secretary, who hadn’t dealt with a few incidents for their leader’s children? This young man was all too experienced in such matters.

But just as he was about to report the incident, he paused mid-step: Damn it, the uncouth caller hadn’t even mentioned who they were or which institution they belonged to. In his irritation, he had forgotten to ask!

It wouldn’t be appropriate to report this to his leader without full details, especially since the less professional the other party, the quicker he needed to act to avoid any disadvantages with his leader’s child. So, swallowing his annoyance, he dialed the number he had just noted down.

The line was busy.

Dang Wenzheng was still on a notification spree, calling family and workplaces, constantly on the phone. As he needed to make continuous calls, the receiver wasn’t even set down; just a press to hang up before the next number was dialed, leaving no chance for incoming calls to get through.

The young secretary was in a bind, waiting and waiting for over half an hour— notifying someone didn’t usually take this long, but Dang Wenzheng had made a call to the county bureau, reporting a few people causing trouble and making unauthorized sales, and that the station was planning to detain them for a few days, just to report to the higher-ups. It was simply a procedural matter; technically a report but essentially just a heads-up. Such ’minor cases’ hardly concerned the higher authorities.
