Chapter 809: Chapter 439 Beast Tamer Yan Xiaofei
The place where Yan Fei grew up, Sancha River, has a nickname called ’Little Sea City.’ The older generation loved to tell the younger ones about this, speaking with unparalleled pride. Yan Fei’s grandfather was no exception and often instilled this concept in him—when, in fact, this was the biggest joke. If someone were to investigate, they might find that there are probably close to a thousand, if not eight hundred, counties, towns, and villages nationwide that claim to be ’Little Sea City.’
Besides, in the past few years, if the words ’Made in Hai City’ could be found on food, clothing, or goods, it would give people a reason to brag for quite a while—even though, in reality, these items might just be made in the village next door. At least now, every piece of clothing produced by Boss Tong’s family business in the town has a ’Made in Hai City’ label on it.
However, no matter what, for the children of Sancha River town, Hai City sometimes seemed to occupy their hearts even more deeply than the Capital.
So, Yan Fei watched for quite a while, went to Dinosaur World to slaughter a dinosaur for a pot of meat, flew for a couple more rounds, and then, somewhat reluctantly, flapped his wings towards Sancha River.
Because his mind was still occupied with thoughts, he accidentally flew all the way to Wancheng City. It turned out to be just in time, as he took a stroll through someone’s pesticide factory, only to discover, quite disappointingly, that their warehouse was out of rat poison—of course, he didn’t know that the secret of the rat poison being just water had been exposed, and the pesticide factory didn’t know how many hush fees it had paid to keep this news under wraps.
When he reached the skies above Sancha River, he patrolled once and returned to the side of the greenhouse. Entering Dinosaur World, he caught a few plump wild rabbits from the cages in the valley and then carried them back to the cabin.
The girl was very vigilant. Hearing the noise, she asked, "Yan Xiaofei, are you back?"
Yan Fei replied, "Who else could it be? Even the tigers are silent when I’m back. Hurry up and sleep!"
Only then did the girl fall soundly asleep, and Yan Fei immediately started to get busy.
This was his experience; if he wasn’t around, even if the girl was asleep, the slightest noise would startle her. But as long as he was nearby, the girl would sleep soundly, and stirring her a little wouldn’t wake her at all.
After he had eaten and drunk his fill and felt the girl in the house was deeply asleep, he was about to feed the animals when suddenly an idea popped into his head.
After careful consideration, he immediately made up his mind.
He stood up quietly and threw the tiger, the black bear, and even the wolfdogs into Dinosaur World. After they got accustomed to it, he chuckled, caught a half-grown Styracosaurus from elsewhere, and prepared to let these creatures practice hunting.
Actually, the largest tiger had already learned to hunt before it was captured, and it was probably close to living independently. It was just the other two tigers and the black bear that were still a bit lacking.
Suddenly faced with the appearance of a ’colossal beast,’ the group of animals was stunned at first, and the two dense black bears even wanted to go up and get friendly, which made Yan Fei laugh and cry—they most likely mistook this Styracosaurus for their own transformation.
Fortunately, they soon realized that this wasn’t their owner transforming—after all, their owner was standing beside them, gesturing vigorously, urging them to go up and fight!
So a group of creatures, big and small, immediately started to circle around the Styracosaurus, yipping and howling chaotically.
This was also because they had seen Yan Fei transform before and had all been to Dinosaur World; they were probably the most well-informed bunch of animals on Earth at the moment. Especially a few wolfdogs that grew up in the valley; seeing the Styracosaurus, they were quite calm.
An adult Styracosaurus stood two meters high, six meters long, and weighed over three tons. The Styracosaurus that Yan Fei caught for them to practice on was a bit smaller, not even five meters, but compared to a wolfdog, it was already a monster.
The two black bears were a bit more timid, these creatures are naturally inclined to bully the weak and fear the strong, and upon seeing a monster so much larger than themselves, they reacted much like the few wolves—howling without daring to approach.
If we’re talking about the bravest of them all, we have to look at the tigers. Wild tigers are bold enough to tackle even elephants. The largest one, whom Yan Fei called Big Tiger, had already started to probe at the Styracosaurus, which, owing to the sudden changes in its environment, appeared somewhat panic-stricken.
After all, the Styracosaurus is an herbivorous dinosaur, and although it had never encountered the animals around it before, its natural instincts rendered it cautious. Especially the few tigers, whose unabashed predatory aggression made the dinosaur feel threatened.
As the Styracosaurus lowered its head and lunged with the horns on its head, Tiger Two and Tiger Three dodged with a mere side-step. Though the tigers had no chance to hunt alone, their frequent roughhousing with Yan Fei had given them plenty of being thrown around. With their rich combat experience and natural agility, avoiding the charge was certainly no problem.
Big Tiger seized the opportunity, leaping from the side, and with a swipe of its paw, left several deep wounds on the Styracosaurus’s body.
Yan Fei shook his head slightly, these guys were still undertrained and inexperienced. They had rushed in without proper observation, and what if the Styracosaurus had hidden tricks?
Having launched its attack, Big Tiger emboldened Tiger Two and Tiger Three, who gradually gained courage and joined the assault.
The three tigers encircled the Styracosaurus, chaotically rotating around it and occasionally launching stealthy swipes. Once they realized the Styracosaurus was klutzy enough to only cry out when injured, resorting solely to headlong charges, even the two dopey bears dared to join the fray.
But these two dopey bears were so comical it was almost laughable—they rushed forward and clung onto one of the Styracosaurus’s legs, furiously ripping and tearing. However, their weight was far too insignificant compared to the Styracosaurus, and they ended up being dragged around the ground by the panicked creature.
Yet these stubborn bears persisted, digging in their heels and refusing at any cost to let go, preferring to be dragged along than to relinquish their claws and jaws from their hold. Fortunately, the Styracosaurus was already injured, and with the few wolves also pouncing to join the black bears in biting the dinosaur, they collectively succeeded in their ’dragging down’ mission, further impeding the Styracosaurus’s movements.
Seeing the Styracosaurus held back, Tiger Two grew even bolder, leaping straight onto the dinosaur’s back, only to find itself with nowhere to bite. Reluctantly, it leaped off, while Big Tiger seized the chance, pouncing ferociously with both claws and then biting down, rendering the Styracosaurus incapable of running.
Tiger Two and Tiger Three also attacked together, scratching and biting, quickly covering the Styracosaurus with wounds. The injuries on the legs where Big Tiger was incessantly gnawing were so deep they were nearly to the bone. Only at that point did Big Tiger catch the opportunity to bite the Styracosaurus’s neck.
In fact, there was no need to bite—the Styracosaurus was already nearly bled to death. Before Big Tiger could fully tear open the Styracosaurus’s throat, the creature staggered a few times, then fell heavily to the ground.
Although the battle took a long time, ending almost at dawn, it was without any major surprises. After all, compared to the Styracosaurus, each of the animals was far more agile, which the dinosaur could not match. They could easily dodge its charges, including the two bears that seemed utterly foolish, yet they were quite agile when it came to fighting.
Seeing the Styracosaurus on the ground, Yan Fei simply went out and brought in the Golden Eagle and the Sable, letting them join in the feast.
Now, under Yan Fei’s training, these animals didn’t dare to monopolize the food during mealtime; they could only strive to see who could eat the fastest.
After they had all had their fill, Yan Fei threw them one by one into the lake to wash off the traces of combat and feeding from their bodies.
It looks like they’ll need to be trained more frequently in the future—the earlier fight was very simple. The difference between a juvenile Styracosaurus and an adult one is not only in size, but even more in combat instincts and survival experience. If it had been an adult Styracosaurus with sufficient experience, it would have fled from the start, and these animals would probably still be hungry now!
Once he had resecured the animals, the girl was likely almost awake, so Yan Fei simply decided not to sleep, and went off to cook for the girl instead!
