Carrying a Jurassic on me -
Chapter 808 - 438 Hai City Pearl Tower
Chapter 808: Chapter 438 Hai City Pearl Tower
"It’s a dark and windy night, eh!" Yan Fei lay on the broken rattan chair, lazing around and muttering as he looked at the pitch-black night sky.
"Yan Xiaofei, what are you getting emotional about? Hurry up and come take a bath and go to sleep. What about a dark and windy night? Planning on killing people and setting fires, huh?" Xu Xiaoyan, who had just finished washing up and was carrying a basin, overheard his murmuring and immediately urged him. "The water’s a bit cool, just take a quick splash, don’t keep showering or you’ll catch a cold."
"Mhm, there’s no rush. I’m planning to go out for a stroll in a bit, I haven’t had wild rabbit in a long time. I’ll catch a few rabbits to feast on." Yan Fei’s gaze swept from the girl’s wet hair to her pink pajamas, especially lingering on the front of the pajamas, looking repeatedly—surprisingly just looking without having the audacity to take advantage.
"Then don’t be out for too long. It looks like it might rain, so come back early to sleep. If you return late, don’t bother bathing, the freshly pumped water is kinda cold." Yan Fei was lying in a spot far from the light, so the girl couldn’t tell where his thieving eyes were looking. She thought nothing of him mentioning rabbit hunting, placed the basin inside the room, and came out again, drying her hair with a towel.
A tall water tower now stood near the greenhouse, tapping a deep well. The weather today wasn’t great, the sun was out for too short a time, and the water in the tank was all groundwater, a bit chilly. Due to a severe lack of information, the girl actually worried about him recklessly taking a cold shower and hurting himself, not knowing that this fellow could even go to the Arctic, break through the ice to dive into the sea and touch seashells with no problem.
"You go on to sleep first later, don’t wait for me. Those two useless eagles are getting lazier by the day, not even going rabbit hunting. Sooner or later, I’ll slaughter them for meat." Yan Fei got up, stretched lazily, and prepared to set off.
"Go quickly and come back quickly, and if you can’t catch any, that’s fine, just come back early." The girl reminded him once more.
"Don’t worry! I’ll just catch two rabbits, and I’ll be back soon." Yan Fei said, giving a kick to a black bear blocking the way. "Stop snoring and sleeping, keep a good watch on the door..."
Reaching the river, he descended the bank, and in the blink of an eye, Xiaohei flew up. After circling in the sky and seeing the girl had closed the house door, he flew away with ease.
He flew directly east.
Catching rabbits was just an excuse, as No.1 and No.2 Coolie were now raising a bunch of wild rabbits in the valley, already filling several large cages, more than they could eat. These creatures are prolific breeders to begin with, and with the favorable climate in the valley and top-notch forage for feeding, these rabbits grew even faster than actual wild rabbits.
Today, he was preparing to test his current flight speed. A workman must first sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well, and he was planning to go a bit farther to do some vigilante justice. Learning a foreign language was for this preparation, and today’s speed test obviously was, too.
Xiaohei, like a black bolt of lightning, streaked across the night sky. He swiftly exited the range covered by the clouds, and under the starlight, his dark shadow flashed past. Even if someone was using a telescope to stargaze, they would at most sense a brief blur, with no idea what had flown by.
The fastest flying creature on Earth, the Common Swift, only reaches speeds of about 300 kilometers per hour. If compared with Xiaohei, Xiaohei could likely leave them in the dust so thoroughly that not even a shadow would be seen within minutes.
The innate homing ability of birds ensured that Yan Fei wouldn’t fly in the wrong direction. All he needed to do was fly with all his might, more convenient than radar navigation.
He headed straight for Hai City, commonly known as Magic City.
Although it was deep into the night, in the brightly lit city, the bustling streets were still thronged with cars and waves of people.
Upon arriving in Hai City, there’s a place one simply must visit; otherwise, you’d be too embarrassed to say you’ve been to Hai City.
This place is the television tower known as the Oriental Pearl.
Inside the tower’s restaurant, many people who come here for the first time care less about the cuisine and are more captivated by the novelty of being hundreds of meters in the air—the sensation alone is enough to make them want to stay forever.
A young couple by the window of the restaurant is complaining about another youngster across from them, "What’s the matter? We were all posed just now, and then you delayed taking the photo, definitely another wasted film roll."
The accused youth felt a bit wronged, "I was about to take the picture when suddenly a crow flew by and stopped behind you guys, otherwise I wouldn’t have been distracted."
The young man who had just complained didn’t believe it one bit, "It’s almost midnight, where would a crow come from..."
The young woman raised her hand to interrupt him, "Alright, alright, let’s drop it. Let’s just take another one, quick! I’ll take one for you guys in a bit. Let’s not disturb others’ dinner..."
Really, there are more people here to take in the view than to eat; everyone is the same, standing here and looking at the urban nightscape of what’s known as Magic City. Roads stretch out like shimmering Brachiosauruses, winding far into the distance, entrancing the onlooker. Who has the appetite to eat!
With a quiet snap, a flash of light, the youngster who had just clicked the camera couldn’t help but glance out the window again, hoping to see that strange crow and prove he hadn’t been lying.
Of course, there was no sighting; the fake crow was now atop the Pearl Tower, mulling over: The straight-line distance from home to here is roughly eight hundred thirty kilometers, which took just about an hour and twenty minutes or slightly more. My measurements weren’t exact, but it’s more or less six hundred kilometers per hour.
If I were to fly to Aipao City and I didn’t pass over this city beneath me, the journey could be shortened by a few dozen kilometers, but that would still take about three hours. Long-distance flight would demand me to cross over the sea, necessitating consideration of other factors, such as the weather.
Plus the return trip, a total of six hours would be needed.
But the place where I’m supposed to ’carry out justice’ isn’t in Aipao City; I need to locate the target. Even if I’m fast, I must allocate at least two hours. If I plan to do something else and it takes extra time, I’ll need to reserve another two hours. So, including travel time, I need to plan for at least ten hours.
For Yan Fei as he is now, that’s a bit of a challenge—the girl at home always goes to sleep punctually between nine and ten at night, waking at five on the dot. Doing the math, without a good excuse, if Yan Fei spends the whole night away from home, he’ll have to concoct a lie to deceive her...
Forget it, to avoid lying one more time, I’ll wait a few more days!
Xiaohei, a crow-like bird, soared into the sky, beginning to circle above the city.
For Yan Fei, this was a major metropolis to which he had a special connection. As someone who had never really been to Hai City, without any relatives or acquaintances here, it seemed almost laughable to have such a unique affection for the city. Yet, that was the reality.
