Chapter 723: Chapter 361: Legal Cohabitation_1
Once the new road to the county town is completed, the old road will inevitably be abandoned, and the people of Sancha River town wanting to take a ride on the new road will end up having to travel a few kilometers farther. However, the new road is closer to Yan Fei’s grandfather’s house. It passes not far from their village, which includes Yan Fei’s old home.
Which means if in the future one wants to travel from the town to the county via the new road, it would turn out to be a trip ten kilometers longer. The original distance was just over ten kilometers. Now it’s going to be more than twenty kilometers to reach the county town, making the small town seem even more remote.
For Yan Fei’s cattle farm, if they were to buy cows from the county in the future, the truck would have to travel an extra ten kilometers. There wasn’t much of an effect on other things, such as the rising cost of bus fare having no impact on the cattle farm. After all, they all have motorcycles at the farm, and it’s quite easy for everyone to spend a few dozen dollars to get a driver’s license. With better roads in the future, even if it is a bit farther, it might not take much more time.
After moving into the new house on the cattle farm, the wedding preparations for Heizi were put on the agenda. Heizi was very particular about picking the day of their first supply of beef to Hong Kong. Yan Fei was amenable to this and promised to cover all the beef needed for the wedding feast.
Since it’s not possible to make a round trip to Hong Kong every day for the beef delivery, they agreed to do it every three days. According to the plan, they would have to slaughter nine cows each time, along with the same practice in the Provincial City. With this, they had to slaughter twelve cows every three days.
The high-priced beef they sold was just a small part, the bulk of it still had to be sold by themselves, which meant there would be a lot of beef. Pang Fa was already busy running around to negotiate with multiple restaurants that would need a large amount of beef. With so much beef, a small county town couldn’t possibly sell it all. They had to go to the city.
Fortunately, Yan Fei’s operation is fully licensed – the beef produced by the lawful cattle farm would find buyers as long as the price was reasonable.
While everyone was busy preparing for Heizi’s wedding, Chen Liqiang, the worm seller, visited again.
Chen Liqiang’s appearance this time was entirely different from the last. He looked energetic and wasn’t riding his old bicycle anymore – he had switched to a motorcycle, a complete transformation. After settling the balance for the previous worm order, he asked for Brother Heizi.
Upon meeting his ’Brother Heizi’, Chen Liqiang’s enthusiasm was overwhelming. It was as if he was meeting a long-lost sibling. When he heard that Heizi was preparing for his wedding, he insisted that he would definitely attend.
While Heizi was grinning from ear to ear, the others were confused about what exactly Heizi had done to earn such gratitude from a sales representative of a city pharmaceutical factory?
They didn’t know that on the day Yan Fei had left for the Provincial City with his girlfriend and Sixth Miss Guo to look at houses, a ’big event’ had occurred in the city’s garment market. Everyone talked excitedly about the young man who almost cried and fainted in front of his own shop in an attempt ’to defend love’.
The shop’s owner came out to see what the commotion was about, only to find a young man in a pitiful state. Upon realizing that the stricken individual was her son, she burst into tears, cradling him tenderly.
It was indeed a tragic sight. At that moment, Chen Liqiang nearly kicked himself for forgetting Heizi’s warnings about the chili oil on his sleeve. As he walked along the road, he was firm in his determination that, once he worked up a sweat, he had used his own sleeve, not a handkerchief, to wipe his forehead – after all, Heizi had already ruined his clothes and he wasn’t going to wear them again.
As a result, before he could even get there, it wasn’t just his eyes that were swollen but his handsome face had become unrecognizable too. His mother couldn’t recognize the disheveled young man as her son at first glance and had thought he was a beggar!
The events were rather amusing in hindsight, with the mother asking an employee to give the ’beggar’ a few dimes, all the while muttering about how a man of his age could resort to begging. She was shocked to discover that the beggar was her son – always impeccably dressed, the most handsome, well-behaved, and adorable child in the world.
Upon recognition, mother and son shared a tearful embrace – a truly emotional scene that would bring anyone to tears. This managed to resolve the situation.
As for Chen Liqiang’s father’s opinion, it didn’t really matter. Before he could even voice a word in disagreement, he was silenced by one threatening glare from his wife.
The father’s role in this family was rather unsatisfactory. Although he had a job, he worked for an organization on the brink of bankruptcy. His meager salary was often withheld, making it hard for him to even afford his own cigarettes, let alone support his family’s needs. He still had to ask for pocket money from home, or else he wouldn’t be able to afford the bus fare and would have to resort to biking – at least bikes don’t need fuel.
Money speaks volumes! People tend to lose their temper when they are financially strained, and the father, needing to ask for pocket money for cigarettes, bus and bicycle fees, found his patience wearing thin.
Therefore, Heizi’s idea was really clever. No matter how heartless a mother might be, her son is still her son. Seeing her son turn into a beggar within such a short time, broke her heart!
All of Chen Liqiang’s problems, which were caused by financial issues, were now resolved.
The cost of medical treatment was trivial compared to his mother’s plans to buy a wedding house for him near the pharmaceutical factory. When his mother visited his future wife, she found the girl to be decent – growing up poor, she neither resents her abandonment nor wallows in self-pity. This impression made the future mother-in-law want to use money to secure a job for her future daughter-in-law – with money, it’s easier to get things done. It was said that this plan to buy a job indicator was already making progress.
In summary, Chen Liqiang finally tasted the sweetness after enduring so much hardship, and everyone was happy in the end.
Because of what had happened, Chen Liqiang felt too embarrassed to tell anyone about it, and Heizi also kept his advice a secret. It was only after having a few drinks and letting it slip that the others found out.
All agreed that his idea was nothing original and collectively scorned him. They all knew that Heizi himself had used this tactic countless times, to the point where it no longer worked. The fact that he had the audacity to offer this same advice to others just showed the thickness of his skin.
In summary, everything was fun and pleasant, and all matters were moving in the right direction.
As the days passed, more than a dozen cows on the cattle farm were nearing their end. As for Heizi, he couldn’t stop smiling, claiming that he would soon be able to ’legally cohabit’ with his wife.
Hearing him use such terms, one could only see the audacity of this man!
