Chapter 722: Chapter 360 Display Case New Highway_1
Yan Fei brought the reluctant Miss Xu Xiaoyan back home, made a meal, and after eating, sent this somewhat unwilling young lady to school, then he went to the Agricultural University for a stroll.
He popped over to Old He’s place, remembering that despite having turned down the old man’s well-intentioned help, the man had shown no ill will towards him, right?
He also visited Professor Qi’s house and left some honey and medicinal wine there. He had not been able to do so out and about earlier, and besides, the elderly man would not have managed to carry it. Yan Fei knew there was a housekeeper at their place, so he decided to deliver the items directly.
After delivering the wine, he stopped by the steakhouse. Its credibility was still intact. Even though Yan Fei hadn’t visited again since closing the deal, his pager number was already displayed in the shop.
The old food posters on the walls of the shop were replaced. The new ones had a line below each, indicating that the beef came from the Morning Glory Farm, with the farm’s contact and pager number provided. Yan Fei almost forgot that his company’s name was Morning Glory.
Not only that, the steakhouse now had a glass display case at the entrance, used to showcase their beef. In the past, anyone could tell that their meat was no different from the usual fare, and the staff would never be foolish enough to let customers see for themselves. Looking at the images on the menu would suffice, as the beef there could be made to look as appetizing as possible.
Now that they had high-quality beef and planned to use it every day, they needed to display it for people to see it, right? Who would believe that their beef was genuinely superior otherwise? The beef delivered yesterday was already on display in several places. Foreign customers who understood food made sure that what was displayed was the most visually appealing beef they had. With a small flower or a few green leaves next to the plate holding the beef, it instantly made the beef seem high-class.
Next to the showcase was a note indicating where the steak came from and the contact details. The font might be a bit smaller than the posters, but it was definitely more impactful since the beef was real. Anyone could tell at a glance whether the meat was good or not.
Yan Fei thought this was an excellent deal; at least the people of the Provincial City would know about his beef. Though his pager hasn’t received any beef orders yet, nobody knew where this flagrantly rustic farm was located. Then again, having such a rustic name written out in such a well-decorated restaurant seemed oddly fitting!
Having looked around, a whole afternoon had passed, and he went home to cook dinner with his wife.
The young lady was grumpy when she left for school, and still seemed dissatisfied when she returned. After dinner, she made no mention of returning to school but dawdled on her own. It seemed like she had no plans to go back to her dormitory.
Yan Fei was all too happy with this, happily waiting for the young lady to approach him.
When she came over, she was furious, "Yan Xiaofei, you’re getting on the bed without washing your feet! Go wash them right now..."
Yan Fei felt quite wronged: "Even without washing, I’m cleaner than most are after they wash!"
He was telling the truth. Having the ability to perform seventy-two changes, a single transformation left him incredibly clean. Nonetheless, that argument was not about to persuade the young lady. After a brief argument, she booted him out. The moment he stepped outside, she slammed the door shut behind him.
Yan Fei was cool with it. Girls loved to say no but mean yes, and to put on a show. So what if she shut the door? She didn’t lock it. He could just push it open and walk right in later. Of course, he only dared to think this in his head and would never dare to say it out loud, for fear of the likely displeasing consequences!
The following day, he headed to the school gate early in the morning with the young lady. Boss Wang had already been waiting with his aged, beaten-up vehicle. Yan Fei had everything he needed in his bag. The contracts for the purchase were simple. He’d have a quick look and then have the young lady sign them – he was too young, and couldn’t sign his own name on the contracts.
No payment needed for anything other than the two stone lions, as the cost of the other materials was included in the price of the house.
Upon finishing the paperwork in half a day, Yan Fei asked Boss Wang, "Do you have a lot of projects on your hands at the moment? Do you need me to pay some of the housing fund in advance?"
Boss Wang thought about it briefly before laughing: "Brother Yan is really considerate, thank you for your understanding. However, we have already received a portion of the housing fund from the Agricultural University recently so there is no rush on our side. Let’s wait until the house is built and you have inspected it, and then we can settle all at once."
Boss Wang was quick to think on his feet. Right now, even if he wanted an advance, he couldn’t demand an outrageous amount, at most 30,000 to 50,000. The foundation of the house was already completed, and the rest of the construction would be done in about a month. Plus, there will be additional minor repairs, so it would all wrap up in about two months.
The key is that Yan Fei doesn’t appear to be the type to delay payments. Therefore, asking for an advance of 30,000 to 50,000 for two months actually doesn’t make a significant difference. On the contrary, it means remembering a personal favor. If Boss Wang doesn’t plan on future interactions, he doesn’t have to worry about personal favors. Isn’t it just that Boss Yan seems more influential than initially thought, and Boss Wang, assuming he is well-connected, wants to make a good impression for future dealings?
Yan Fei didn’t mind: "That’s alright then, the money won’t go bad just sitting in my bag. Let’s settle everything once the house is built."
Boss Wang laughed heartily and drove them back to the Law School.
After dropping off the girl at the school, he had to return. She was reluctant to leave him but eventually turned to enter the school, looking back at every step she took.
Today was Monday and the cow rearing training program in Sancha River town was due to start again. It was now too late for Yan Fei to return in time, so he decided to go back to prepare for a new shipment of cows. The impoverished households in each village have all submitted their registrations. The town wants to organize a ceremony for promotional purposes.
Yan Fei didn’t mind this. If the town wanted to host it, they could go ahead, as long as he didn’t have to spend a single penny.
The ceremony was quite simple, inviting a local bureau journalist from a city newspaper, either the evening or morning edition, to take some photos and write a report. The town couldn’t afford an extravagant event. Everyone in the town was well aware that the money and cows were provided by Yan Fei. He didn’t like being in the news, so the promotion was designed to praise the town’s active support for local enterprises and its assistance in poverty alleviation efforts.
Those who received the cows, their calves decorated with large red ribbons, posed for photos with the town leaders - and then it was all done.
This was just a trivial matter to Yan Fei, even less significant compared to the completion of his new property’s courtyard wall.
With the expansion of the yard, the original two dogs were not able to cover the entire area. Yan Fei decided to bring over the two German Shepherds from the greenhouse to maintain order. He even brought several dogs from Dinoworld and tied them up in the greenhouse temporarily - of these dogs brought in from Dinoworld, a few larger ones were originally taken from the Si Family’s Brothers, with a few remaining after being given away. The rest were offsprings of the two German Shepherds, except for one that was given to Yan Fei’s father’s friend, all were still around.
Despite these dogs being born outdoors, they were introduced to Dinoworld shortly after opening their eyes, thus their exposure to people was limited. Also, Yan Fei had not given them proper training yet, so he didn’t dare let them loose just yet. They would need some time to adjust.
The opening of the town’s bus station brought no significant changes to the cattle farm. Indeed, some had bought tricycles to offer rides at the station, but depending on the little station’s income was too minimal. On the other hand, attending to the cattle farm, helping out when needed, this could guarantee at least a meal and a bit of cash, much better than waiting for passengers at the station. As the number of cattle at the cattle farm increased, there were times when Heizi, Old Ou needed extra help when they were out buying cattle. It was very convenient to summon a few locals to help clean up the cow dung and such.
Word had gotten around in Sancha River town that the county was planning on repairing and upgrading the road to asphalt. Perhaps, after the roads are fixed, the town may become a better place. This was the general speculation among the locals; however, for insiders like Yan Fei, an improved road might not necessarily bring benefits to the town.
The new road was planned by the city and aimed at connecting Tanghe County with the two northern counties, then linking up with the main highway from Wan City to the provincial city. The plan in Tanghe County was to build a new large bridge west of the county seat while the road to the provincial city will be relocated west of the existing old road.
