Chapter 672: Chapter 320: His Building is Falling Down_1

Even the wisest can err!

Yan Fei’s transformed raven circled in the sky, inwardly annoyed.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t locate the Buffalo Research Institute; it was just too easy to find.

The easier it was, the less advantageous for Yan Fei. The area was vast making locating a specific individual difficult.

There were many cowsheds with people in them and he had to observe closely.

After several attempts, he decided to head towards the office building. He found a good spot in a big tree in front of the building and began observing.

The research institute had to raise buffalo and do some research. Operating too close to populous areas was inconvenient. Few people lived nearby, hence, the area was frequented by birds. The nearby groves housed at least several species of birds, all chirping away ceaselessly.

With so many birds around, the raven’s erratic flight and subsequent perch on the tree attracted no attention.

The raven wasn’t just observing, it was also listening. With his dual approach, he quickly found his target—hindsight made him regret wasting his time flying around earlier.

"Mr. Da Lang, I believe Director Dai is no longer fit to continue in his position," Guo Guozhu stated in an office with righteous indignation to Mr. Da Lang, the young Japanese man who was buried deep in paperwork.

"Oh? Why?" Mr. Da Lang looked up and asked.

"We decided in today’s meeting to temporarily suspend the technology transfer to Sancha River. To my knowledge, when Director Dai communicated this decision, he said that if the other party wasn’t willing to continue purchasing the technology, the down-payment could be refunded. Furthermore, he even promised that they could retrieve the refund at any time. He even offered to personally deliver the refund. I believe he is selling out the interests of our institute and regards our meeting decisions as insignificant," Guo Guozhu stepped forward and emphasized.

"Mr. Da Lang, I believe we should no longer indulge his misconduct. He is showing utter disregard for superiors, particularly Mr. Chai Qi and you. This is extreme irresponsibility towards work. Is he treating the institute like his own business? Suggesting a collaboration or refunding money depending on his whim? In a broader context, this is undermining organizational discipline; in a narrower sense, this is abusing power for personal gain and damaging the interests of our institute," Guo Guozhu finished.

Half-way through Guo Guozhu’s monologue, Mr. Da Lang lowered his head to comically manage his paperwork in an attempt to mask the slight helplessness on his face. Once Guo Guozhu was finished, Da Lang said: "I will undoubtedly inform Mr. Chai Qi and the rest of the leadership about this matter. Is there anything else you wanted to discuss?"

"Mr. Da Lang, I personally don’t have anything else to discuss. However, I strongly believe that even if Director Dai remains in his position, he should no longer be in charge of the Sancha River pasture. His response this afternoon has negatively impacted our institute. I think a new person needs to take over immediately to restore our institute’s image," Guo Guozhu maneuvered the conversation, practically waving an invisible banner that read: give me the job, give it to me!

"The domestic investment representative will be here soon and you’ll be in charge of receiving him. If you take over his duties now, will you be able to handle it all?" Da Lang asked while not looking up from his work.

Without waiting for Guo Guozhu’s response, Da Lang wrote the last word on a document, closed it, and stood up: "If you have nothing else, you can leave. I need to go to Mr. Chai Qi’s office. I will inform him of the matter you reported, await my message back at your office!"

Guo Guozhu nodded stubbornly, "I’ll be heading back then..."

Just as he was about to leave, he turned his head and saw Da Lang reaching for another document on the table. He quickly spun around and grabbed the document — his movements swift like a startled rabbit.

Having grabbed the document, Guo Guozhu disregarded Da Lang’s surprised expression and said in a bowing and scraping manner: "Mr. Da Lang, I can carry it for you. I’ll deliver it to the door of Mr. Chai Qi’s office..."

Da Lang gave a noncommittal nod and holding the document, prepared to leave the room.

Guo Guozhu took two steps back, making way for Da Lang to move, then with a big smile and a bow, followed behind him, carefully holding the document.

The raven in the tree heard these words and his feathers fluttered. He was intrigued.

To his surprise, Da Lang took Guo Guozhu to the neighboring room and started knocking on the door. Mr. Chai Qi’s voice soon answered from inside. Da Lang pushed open the door to enter, while Guo Guozhu quickly passed him the document held in his hand and politely saw Da Lang in with a very mannerly smile.

Only after the office door closed did Guo Guozhu stand straight, adjusted his clothes, emitted a barely audible grunt, then proudly walked towards the stairs.

The raven cursed inwardly as he watched Guo Guozhu strut downstairs as if he had just completed an important historic mission.

He had wasted too much time and it was running out.

The raven flapped its wings and, restraining its restlessness, listened for a few more minutes, growing increasingly annoyed.

He couldn’t understand a thing!

The raven took flight, hovered in a circle in the air, flew through a large tree transforming into a brilliantly multicolored dragonfly with translucent wings.

Since there weren’t any people around, no one would notice that this dragonfly was larger than the ones they were used to seeing once it was flying over the rooftops.

Some birds in the distance saw a giant dragonfly appear and instantly took interest.

Dragonflies eat insects, but there are also birds who fancy dining on dragonflies.

One bird spotted the dragonfly hovering motionless above the rooftop. With a flick of its wings, the bird surged forward.

Before it could even get close to the dragonfly, it sensed a considerable danger approaching. It quickly swoops to the side, avoiding the danger.

A massive boulder seemed to materialize out of thin air, whizzing past the bird and landing onto the rooftop.

This building had likely been there since the establishment of the research institute, so it must be at least twenty years old now. The roofs of these old buildings were all made of so-called slabs or essentially a kind of hollow prefabricated slab.

The roof, made of such material, was no match for a many-tons boulder crashing down onto it— expectedly, it resulted in a gaping hole.

After crashing through the roof and collapsing the building, the boulder vanished before it could even hit the ground with the rubble and concrete.

Meanwhile, the dragonfly glanced downward, morphed back into an insect, and rapidly flew off.

Guo Guozhu, triumphant as a victorious rooster, walked with head held high to the staircase. He descended the stairs and saw that there wasn’t anyone around. Unable to repress his excitement, he spontaneously started to hum a tune.

No sooner had he hummed a few notes, he felt the whole building jolt twice and promptly stood dumbfounded.

It wasn’t as if Wan City hadn’t experienced any considerable earthquakes. The most recent and significant one, classified as a 6.5 magnitude earthquake by future generations, happened in 1950.

Other than this occurrence, there were hardly any other earthquakes. The few that did happen were just aftershocks from earthquakes elsewhere, merely causing locals some dizziness. Thus, when two sudden loud booms followed by two jolts occurred, no one in the building could come to their senses in time, and no one suspected an earthquake.

After the loud noise, a few messy thumps could be heard. Yet, those who were closer to the noise were still feeling a buzzing in their ears and paid no mind to it. Eventually, everything quickly quieted down.

When Guo Guozhu came to his senses, he dashed down the stairs. He was near the exit when suddenly he remembered something.

So he was seen abruptly skidding to a stop, then turned around to race back up the stairs, all while shouting: "Mr. Chai Qi, Mr. Da Lang..."

Everyone has their good qualities, and Guo Guozhu’s was his quick thinking in a crisis. He didn’t know what had just happened, but since everything seemed calm now, he assumed it was fine.

Since everything was fine, it was the perfect time to display his loyalty, right?

That’s why he was shouting and running upstairs—even if there was still some unknown danger, as the saying goes, no pain, no gain!

Not having run more than a couple of steps, he suddenly felt a slap on his lower back, causing him to fall flat on the stairs, his forehead smacking into them. With no response, he immediately slipped into unconsciousness...

It was only then that everyone in the building began to react, scrambling out to figure out what had just occurred.

Those who got to the staircase saw Guo Guozhu lying still and immediately began shouting.

Initially, those rushing in and out of the building were trying to determine the cause of the loud noise and tremors, but seeing someone unconscious, even though some sneered at the identity of the injured, there was still a pretense of concern and efforts to help.

There were never many people in the office building, with most either in the laboratory or out and about. The number of people actually sitting and working in the offices was actually small.

However, most of this small group were educated and had some knowledge of first aid. Some whose offices were close to the stairs speculated that Guo Guozhu might have been running too quickly and had tripped, causing his fall.

After examining his forehead wound, everyone became more certain about this speculation and quickly started to administer first aid.

While they were busily saving Guo Guozhu, someone else had already contacted the hospital.

After considerable commotion, the unconscious Guo Guozhu’s breathing was nearly undetectable when the ambulance finally arrived. The ambulance then rushed Guo Guozhu off to the hospital, its sirens wailing.

Only then did everyone finally try to figure out what had actually caused the earlier events. Just as they started discussing, a phone in one of the offices rang. Someone ran over to check it and shouted: "Director Dai, it’s your call..."

Dai Chengfu rushed over to take the call. After a couple of responses, he said: "Boss Yan, I’m sorry! Something just happened here. Can I explain it to you
