Chapter 658: Chapter 311 Tylosaurus_1

On a certain night of a certain month, the moon was crescent above the bend of the Sancha River. There was a gentle breeze over the ocean of the Dinosaur World accompanied by delicate waves.

"If I wrote a diary, that’s how I’d record today!" Yan Fei thought, bored, as he lounged on the rattan chair in the greenhouse.

Waiting is indeed a rather dull affair.

His luck appeared to be waning tonight. An unassuming raft carrying fresh meat bobbed in the sea water. Yan Fei felt like he’d been waiting for over an hour, yet no carnivorous creature came looking for the ready food. He almost thought he’d positioned the raft incorrectly.

He’d expected this night to be different! After his lady friend had fallen deeply asleep, he’d started looking for targets in Dinosaur World and found a dying Brachiosaurus.

The Brachiosaurus wasn’t dead yet, but the few Torvosaurus surrounding it had already begun to feast.

In the Dinosaur World, this was a common occurrence. Unlike modern animal predation, as often chronicled on television shows like Animal World, lions attacking buffalos aim for key points to kill instantly. But in Dinosaur World, some herbivorous dinosaurs were simply too large for predators to target their vulnerable spots directly.

However, these ruthless ancient hunters had their advantages. They had tremendous bite strength and could tear open wounds at any part of their prey’s body. One wound may not matter much, but when wounds start to accumulate, the hunted would eventually be rendered unable to flee due to excessive blood loss, even less to fight back. At that point, the predators could swarm and enjoy their feast.

At that moment, the predators didn’t care whether their prey was dead or not. As long as their prey had lost the ability to resist, preferably still breathing, the fresher the meal would be.

This was even more brutal than ’lingchi’, or death by a thousand cuts, a torture method in human history. After all, ’linghi’ merely sliced off pieces of flesh, instead of tearing it off and consuming it directly.

The Torvosaurus was a carnivorous dinosaur slightly smaller than a Tyrannosaurus. It was equally brutal, sitting at the top of the food chain. The Brachiosaurus, on the other hand, was a type of large dinosaur with a long neck and capable of walking on all fours. It usually reached a length of nearly thirty meters and weighed over thirty tons.

Having encountered these two types of dinosaurs, Yan Fei didn’t spare either. He’d only explored a part of Dinosaur World, and wasn’t sure how much remained unexplored. Over time, managing the cattle farm would become busier, leaving him less free time. Being prepared for every opportunity was a good strategy.

After tidying up and feeding a group of animals, hours had already passed. The meat he’d been stewing was ready, and after eating his fill, he stewed two more pots of meat. Only then did he put the meat he didn’t fancy onto the raft and lie down on the rattan chair for a lengthy wait.

He couldn’t help it. There’d been too many changes recently, and his stomach had become a bottomless pit. It seemed like everything he ate was digested almost instantly. Despite just having eaten, his stomach would feel empty again in no time.

The ocean never lets anyone down, and waiting always yields results.

A school of fish resembling marlins swam over, and started to eat the meat on the raft.

These fish had shorter dorsal fins than marlins, and lacked sharp beaks. Around one meter in length, their torpedo-shaped bodies suggested agility. It was a pity that their teeth were lacking. Despite snapping at the meat on the raft for a while, they managed to consume very little.

Fortunately, Yan Fei had put skinless meat on the raft. Furthermore, some of the meat were organs, which wer easier for the fish to rip apart. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to eat anything.

For these one-meter-long fish, Yan Fei didn’t need to use his transformation ability. They would just appear on his raft, allowing him to catch one bare-handed.

This fish was quickly converted into a pile of ingredients. Although their bodies were slim, they were still over a meter long, and the amount of meat was far more than a beltfish. Yan Fei cut all the meat into thin slices, coated them in flour, and was ready to cook these fish slices in oil.

Before he finished applying the flour, he glanced casually at his bait, just in time to see the small sailfish scattering in all directions.

Shortly after, a massive figure suddenly surged out of the water, gnashing away a significant portion of the meat on the raft and even upsetting the raft in the process.

Upon seeing the colossal figure, Yan Fei dropped the bowl in his hand and was about to take action. But he immediately stopped.

The beast moved too quickly and had already returned to the water with its food. Yan Fei noticed a dark shadow heading downward. He realized the creature was hunting the meat that had fallen into the water when the raft had overturned.

Time was of the essence, and Yan Fei swiftly surveyed Vegetable Garden Island. He prepared a fresh pile of meat and placed it on the raft, ready to strike at a moment’s notice.

The beast quickly caught up with the food that was slowly sinking. After devouring those pieces, it lazily swam around for a while. Soon, it detected fresh food on the surface and promptly made its way back towards the raft.

Yan Fei was expecting this. As he had predicted, the amount of food originally on the raft was too insignificant for this gigantic creature. It was hardly enough to fill its stomach.

From below the sea surface, the elongated shadow of the beast appeared more gargantuan than ever—an estimated length of over twenty meters. From Yan Fei’s bird’s-eye perspective, the body shape of this beast was slightly reminiscent of a spiny eel, only much larger—well over a hundred times as large.
