Chapter 657: Chapter 311 We Are More Professional in Boasting_1

After lunch, Zhang Hui arrived with the interns from the veterinary station. With their help, Dai Chengfu and Yan Fei discussed the layout of the site and shared some important pointers. Facing the professionals, they delved into the details, essentially providing direct guidance.

Actually, Yan Fei could be considered an expert now, but he was simply too busy to handle everything himself. Therefore, he had to delegate these specific tasks to others, otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to attend to everything even if he worked himself to death.

Not long after, the duo prepared to leave with the signed contract and the initial deposit. Before they left, Dai Chengfu pulled Yan Fei aside and said, "Boss Yan, there’s something that I shouldn’t really be the one telling you. But given what you saw today, I can’t keep quiet. I’ll just say a few words, and you can take it or leave it. Just don’t think of me as a troublemaker."

Seeing that Yan Fei was listening attentively, he continued, "As you know, our research institute has a joint venture with the Japanese. They have indeed brought some advanced technology and experience to us. However, since they don’t share the same goals as we do, we should maintain a friendly attitude towards them, but also be careful with our secrets. Your breeding bulls have turned out well, so you must have some tricks up your sleeve. That is the capital your ranch and the foundation for helping your countrymen get rich. It’s better to keep it a secret."

Seeing that Yan Fei was a bit confused, he decided to get straight to the point: "That ’Comrade Guo’ who came with us, he’s too close to the Japanese. We had no choice but to bring him along. But you must believe that our institute is loyal to China. If you have advanced technology and can lead everyone to prosperity, we support it. If you’re willing to share that technology, we’d certainly welcome it. But if it’s inconvenient for you, we won’t force you. Remember this, if anyone pressures you to do something, remember what I’ve said."

Seeing Dai Chengfu’s seriousness, Yan Fei nodded solemnly, indicating that he remembered his words.

It was not until the three from the research institute drove away did he fully comprehend the meaning of their words.

Dai Chengfu apparently thought that Yan Fei had some cattle-rearing trick and wanted him to keep his secret from the Japanese. Little did he know that Yan Fei’s technique was a hundred times more vital than he imagined. Revealing it could even lead to death.

Just as he was contemplating this, Heizi, who was watching the car leave, gleefully approached, "Brother Fei, we’ve completed our task today and are reporting back..."

Seeing Heizi’s smug face, Yan Fei felt much more relaxed. Observing that several workers were busy nearby, he said to Heizi, "Let’s discuss inside the house if there’s anything."

Once inside, Heizi began narrating what Guo Guozhu had discovered as he surveyed the cattle farm for half a day.

In the morning, Guo Guozhu left with a cold smile, only to find three people tailing him. He immediately understood that the boss was on guard because of his meddling. Given the wary reception, he didn’t ask many questions—he wasn’t a fool. When the institute sent a large delegation previously, nobody paid attention to his incessant queries. Now that he was clearly the focus of their attention, agitating the locals could make it difficult for him to even leave the farm premises.

Being a local, he understood the dynamics of the local townships well. With this kind of industry in the small town and people like the ones who bent iron nails for him, working diligently in the cattle farm, the excessively young boss was definitely not someone he could afford to offend.

At least for now, when he was on their territory, he dared not stir up any trouble.

In the morning, Guo Guozhu merely observed the ranch, looking at everything from the feed shed, distiller’s grains pool, to even the coal used for brewing. His careful observation was a kind of probe. He possessed the ability to observe words and expressions, and when he was inspecting these things, the apparent indifference of the three followers told him that the issue did not lie here.

Heizi and his companions were indeed younger and less experienced compared to this crafty veteran. They didn’t realize that their very demeanor had given away a lot of information.

It was only after lunch that Guo Guozhu started to test the waters by asking some questions. His knowledge about cattle breeding was limited, while Heizi and his partners had a better understanding having been cattle feeding for quite some time, especially with Zhang Hui’s regular training sessions.

With the exception of Yan Fei’s secret feed formula, there weren’t any secrets in the cattle farm, so Heizi and his companions didn’t mind sharing.

Seeing that he wasn’t getting much information, Guo Guozhu tried to broach Yan Fei’s Qigong.

As soon as this topic came up, Heizi and his companions’ spirits were lifted.

When talking about Yan Fei, the three of them exaggerated his abilities to the point where Guo Guozhu was left baffled. He tried to understand from their expressions, but their faces were no different from when Old Gao had talked to him earlier—there was absolute sincerity. They genuinely respected Yan Fei.

Well, it didn’t matter if this guy believed them or not, the three of them just kept boasting. These guys might not be very professional at work, but when it comes to bragging, they’re definitely at a professional level. Back when they had nothing to do, they would kill time by endlessly boasting to each other.

They could brag as much as they wanted, and they were particularly in sync. Compared to figures like Old Cheng and Old Gao, they were in a league of their own.

In their hands, even the discovery of a bezoar during the New Year became a feat of Yan Fei’s magical qigong. If one person had come up with this story, there might have been some holes, but with all three of them complementing each other, they ended up fabricating a tale that even they almost believed themselves.

Only after Guo Guozhu had blankly listened to everything did he realise that he had spent the whole afternoon listening to these three blow their own trumpets—how much of it was true was left to him to guess slowly.

Hearing Heizi’s words, Yan Fei was relieved: "We’ll continue to stew beef for dinner tonight. If you encounter this sort of thing again, deal with it like this. Later, you guys come up with a consistent story and just stick to it no matter who asks. Oh, and you need to brainstorm a name for my magical qigong. Make it sound plausible so that people won’t think it’s fake right away."

This task was not only simple but also guaranteed to be enthusiastically taken up by everyone. Heizi happily took the assignment and was about to leave when Yan Fei stopped him again: "By the way, didn’t you say last time that you wanted Old Ma’s wife to come over? How come I haven’t heard anything? Does he want his wife to come over or not?"

"He desperately wants her to, but her family won’t let her. They say she’s not allowed to be with him before they’re married," Heizi said contemptuously. "What century are we in? They’re still stuck in old feudal ways of thinking. Inhibiting them even though they’re almost married—what’s the point?"

"Well, that puts my mind at ease. Old Ma hasn’t said anything, so I thought he was dissatisfied or didn’t want his wife to come over! What does his fiance think?" Yan Fei asked. Looking at Heizi’s contemptuous expression, he added, "Stop criticising others. You’re not exactly forward-thinking either—you had a child before even getting engaged. Luckily, your girlfriend’s family is reasonable, otherwise I don’t know what you two would do."

"Why are you criticizing me? I’m about to become a father." Heizi showed no embarrassment about this. "Old Ma shouldn’t have any complaints. He earns a decent wage here and eats well too. I haven’t heard him say his fiance doesn’t want to come, only that her father won’t let her. What’s the problem?"

"Ask him again to make sure. If his fiance does want to come, we should try to get her here sooner rather than later. We’re only going to get busier in the future. If she comes early, she can familiarize herself with the place and see what she can help with. One more person makes everyone’s job easier. Besides, your wife is expecting, isn’t she? If she comes over, she could keep your wife company!"

"Then I’ll go and ask him again. If his fiance wants to come but her family disagrees, what should we do?" Heizi had doubts.

"Use your brain! Old Ma surely wants his fiance to join him at the ranch. If he were to tell them that we need a woman to help with odds and ends at our busy cattle ranch and we can’t wait forever—if she doesn’t come now, we’ll find someone else—do you think her family would agree?" Yan Fei looked at Heizi with disdain.

Heizi had to think about this for a moment before he understood.

It actually did make sense that way. Coming to work at the ranch was the same thing, but saying it differently gave it a different feel. Old Ma’s father-in-law didn’t want his daughter living with Old Ma before they got married due to concerns about preserving face and not wanting their daughter to seem too forward.

But using Yan Fei’s words, it would be Boss Yan hiring a worker and their daughter would only have this opportunity because of Old Ma’s connection. That would give it a completely different feeling!

Once Heizi had grasped the idea, he didn’t linger on the fact he’d been looked down upon and ran out to find Ma Chao. After a while, Ma Chao came trotting over: "Uhm, I’ll go and talk to her right now, so I won’t be having dinner here tonight!"

Yan Fei was busy tidying up and waved him off: "Go ahead, go! When you bring her here tomorrow, I want to see first if she’s capable of handling the workload. Tell her she’ll need to work during the day and keep you warm at night, or else she shouldn’t bother coming..."

Ma Chao pretended not to hear the last part and turned to go ride his motorcycle.

Just as the motorcycle passed the entrance, Yan Fei’s pager went off. When he checked, it was a message from his wife: Yan Xiaofei, I’m back and headed towards the ranch by the shortcut. Are you coming to get me?

Yan Fei ignored the last part and headed straight for his motorcycle without even bothering to clean up.

As he rode his motorcycle, he felt a sense of regret. Now that his wife was back, he couldn’t go and play the "Catch Sea Monsters" game...
