Chapter 650: Chapter 306: Digging a Pond, Chai Ji’s Suspicion_1
The moonlight was like water, Yan Fei carefully closed the door of the room, standing outside and gazing at the moon in the sky.
Behind him in the room, the girl was breathing evenly. After a moment’s thought, he went into the larger shed nearby.
A little later, a tiny figure appeared on the branch of a large tree on a hillside in the dinosaur world.
Below the slope were countless different dinosaurs, some of them big, some little.
With the warming of the climate, countless dinosaurs started to gather and migrate towards the north. Among these were massive dinosaurs looking like Diplodocus and Brontosaurus, smaller ones that resembled giant pigs called Protoceratops.
There were, of course, many more unnamed dinosaurs. Many of the smaller ones hid amongst the larger ones, trying to avoid the omnipresent dangers.
There was bound to be bloody scenes on the path of migration. Plenty of carnivorous dinosaurs were lurking around the dinosaur herd. When the two met, they’d just pass by each other. Given the abundance of food, even other carnivores posed no competition, let alone necessitate a fight.
A young Styracosaurus was on guard at the edge of the herd, looking around warily from time to time. Not far away, some dinosaurs of other species were also on guard; even though they were herbivores and gathered together, they maintained a habit of night watch. It was only by maintaining this routine that they could continue to grow their herds. Once they let their guard down, their doom would arrive in an instant.
Perhaps because it saw no danger around, the Styracosaurus gradually relaxed its vigilance and couldn’t help but look towards a direction — where a shimmering stream was flowing under the moonlight.
The young Styracosaurus looked around nervously again, probably plucked up its courage owing to the large herd of dinosaurs not far behind it, it couldn’t help but take a few steps towards the riverside.
After walking a few steps, it stopped and looked around again cautiously. After a short wait, it finally let its guard down and took a few more steps towards the river.
Just when it thought everything was peaceful, an Allosaurus abruptly rushed out from behind a bush not far away.
The young Styracosaurus quickly turned around, hoping to return to the herd before the Allosaurus got closer. Unfortunately, as soon as it turned around and ran a few steps, there were two more Allosaurus blocking its path.
And that wasn’t all. Allosaurus appeared on both sides of it as well.
The Styracosaurus attempted to fight its way out with the pointed horns andbone shield on its head, but the Allosaurus wouldn’t give it that chance and pounced on it all at once. After a exhausting day of marching, the Styracosaurus’s reaction slowed down, its strength fell no match to the Allosaurus that were lying in wait, and it was quickly overpowered and pinned down by one of the Allosaurus.
The distant herd was startled and there was a moment of commotion. But it quickly calmed down. Such events happened often on this journey. They had to keep their strength up, otherwise if they were to fall behind tomorrow, this currently screaming companion would be their fate.
Some of the Allosaurus were already tasting the delicious meal. Swallowing sounds echoed far into the night, though all the creatures that heard it turned a blind eye.
After a while, another young and robust Styracosaurus came out of the herd, and went to the spot where his predecessor had stood guard, and started the night watch in his place.
Everything seemed as usual, that is, except for one outsider.
As the devoured Styracosaurus was screaming in pain, a massive Brachiosaurus suddenly descended from the sky. A few Allosaurus didn’t react in time and a massive Brachiosaurus appeared before them with a loud thud.
The massive foot of the Brachiosaurus ended up squashing and ending the torment of the Styracosaurus, as well as an unfortunate Allosaurus that didn’t get the chance to dodge.
Then the size of the Brachiosaurus shrunk rapidly, transforming into a long-mouthed Female spined dragon. As several Allosaurus were still backing away warily, it took with it the body of the unfortunate Allosaurus and disappeared.
Soon enough, the unfortunate Allosaurus was chopped up into large chunks of meat by the sea. Some of it was stored in the grass-growing valley, some was directly fed to tigers and bears, and the bones were thrown into the lake where the giant salamander lived. After the flesh was gnawed clean, they would be picked up, sun-dried and ground into bone meal.
Of course, a portion of the meat was stewed by Yan Fei.
With his increasing experience of eating meat, choosing the type of dinosaur he needed was something Yan Fei paid more and more attention to. This need wasn’t about change, but about the quality of the meat, or to be specific, the appearance of the meat. The more the meat of a dinosaur resembled the meat served in modern human society, the more Yan Fei favored it.
The best kind would be a type of meat that could be mistaken for donkey or dog meat. Cow, pig and sheep meats are commonly eaten, but donkey and dog meats are consumed in many places and are rarely eaten in Sancha River Township. So, bringing out such meats may cause some random guesses if someone else sees it. As long as Yan Fei didn’t say anything, they would naturally imagine these meats to be something that they are familiar with.
After getting the meat started on the stove, he straightened up his vegetable garden and brought out two big baskets of vegetables. He placed them next to his motorbike intentionally — this way when he did not provide any explanation, the silly girl would assume when she woke up that these vegetables were bought from somewhere else early in the morning by him.
