Chapter 634: Chapter 293 Benefits of Always Carrying a Book_1

Miss Xu Xiaoyan had been a mix of anger and fear all day. From the moment she saw Yan Fei arrive, she finally found her rock.

Even though her eyes were red and swollen, she managed to explain the whole incident in a few sentences, and she even remembered to hold Yan Fei back from acting rashly.

Yan Fei was quite calm. As Xu Xiaoyan pointed out the goons, he looked at them a second time, then turned to her saying, "Do I look like someone who acts recklessly? You’re about to tear my shirt!"

Only then did Miss Xu realize that she was so anxious that she was almost ripping off the buttons on Yan Fei’s shirt. She laughed through her tears and said, "Your face looked so stern just a while ago, you were glaring at them and I thought you were about to devour them, can I dare to let go?!"

"Well, they wanted to get acquainted with you, right? Let me get acquainted with them too!" Yan Fei replied with a smile.

"You’re not allowed to stir up any trouble. The police are on their way; any troubles can be left to them!" she reminded him uneasily.

"Don’t worry!" Yan Fei immediately promised, nodding his head.

In less than two minutes, the police arrived.

This place is a hub for college students, with a police station nearby, so the response to the complaint was prompt.

The original report claimed that a group of female students had been harassed, but when the police arrived they found the thugs lying on the ground, which was not surprising to them. After all, there are a lot of students around, most of them young, having limited exposure to the dark side of society, hence being naive and passionate. The outcome did not surprise the police at all, these rowdy kids were lucky to have not been beaten to a more severe condition.

The officer in charge was familiar; it was the same police officer Chen Wudong who had a misunderstanding with Yan Fei last time.

Everything else was simple, the police van had just arrived, and it was roomy enough to stuff all the troublemakers inside. As the ruffians were shoved into the van, they gave a nasty stare at Xu Xiaoyan, Yan Fei noticing her discomfort rushed to her side to comfort her.

Among the crowd, a few good Samaritans stepped forward as eyewitnesses, along with the group of girls, they marched off to the nearby police station.

The case was pretty straightforward. As word got out, it was impossible for the school authorities to ignore it. As the whole group reached the police station, the school leaders arrived shortly after.

After giving their statement, apart from their advisor who had to stay back for ID purposes, the girls were allowed to leave soon after.

The rest had to be taken care of by the police station. Even though the evidence was clear, the station had to go through their official process.

The whole ordeal seemed threatening, but after they left the police station, the girls were all praises for Xu Xiaoyan, asking her how she managed to be so brave.

Feeling embarrassed, Xu Xiaoyan replied, "I saw two golden eagles flying towards me and thought he was coming, who knew he would arrive so late!"

A few giggles later made the girls remembered something, one of them exclaimed, "Now I understand why our teachers in middle and high school always told us to keep our books handy..."

"Why?" another girl asked inquisitively.

"Because when stuffed into a backpack, they can give a solid whack!" The humor of the situation had this girl bending over laughing.

The thugs might not know what was in Xu Xiaoyan’s bag, but the girls who dormed together with her sure knew. Other than a water cup and a few snacks, all Xu Xiaoyan had in her bag were books.

No wonder she always had so much energy and didn’t find her bag heavy. She even carried her books when she went home to cook, getting used to the weight. Little did she know that her books would prove useful in a confrontation.

Everyone laughed thinking about how Miss Xu utilised her backpack stuffed with books as a weapon. Later they did feel a bit fearful discussing the day’s events, but no definitive conclusion was reached by the time they finished their meal.

After having dinner, the girls planned to return to the school, the quiet Yan Fei, who had been silent all along, broke his silence and told Miss Xu, "You should go back too, don’t let this incident disrupt your studies!"

Miss Xu Xiaoyan immediately warned, "What are you going to do after I leave?"

"I’m heading to the police station to check in on the progress of the case!" Yan Fei calmly said, "I want to see if they’ve caught the guy competing with me for my woman? This whole thing must’ve been instigated by either him or his parents. I’ll ask the police how they plan to handle them. They can’t possibly think of closing the case by just arresting a few ruffians!"

"I’ll come with you, if they haven’t finished detaining them yet, I’ll request a few days of leave and come back after things calm down. Your family must be really busy now, right?"

"Not at all. We’re just left with the expansion of the cattle farm now. I’ve even started planting the Agaricus bisporus- isn’t that quick?" Yan Fei bragged.

"Really? That quick? It hasn’t even been a week yet!" Xu Xiaoyan exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief.

After Yan Fei said that, he looked forward to seeing Miss Xu’s reaction even more. He smirked, "Not only have I planted Agaricus bisporus, but the watermelons are also ready. I’ve also planted willows, ginkgo trees and roses. Wait until you come back in a few days, you will find that my place has changed a lot! Oh, by the way, I’ve also planted the trees needed for the house over here. After going to the police station later, I’ll take you to see it..."

As expected, after Yan Fei finished saying these things, he once again enjoyed the look of surprise and admiration in Miss Xu’s eyes.

The two of them went to the police station and directly found the officer named Chen Wudong to learn about the progress of the case.

In fact, this wasn’t much of a case to begin with; rather, it was a simple act of retaliation.

The confessions of those thugs were of no use anymore. Their job was simply to intimidate and disgust people. However, they hadn’t expected that in the end, Miss Xu would show such bravery which led to an uncontrollable outcome for them.

These thugs were originally there to avenge the student who had been trampled on. From their perspective, this matter was simple: intimidate a rural girl who is audacious in school but scared upon seeing them outside of school. Frighten her with a few words, and make her agree to pay for the injured student’s medical expenses, at the very least.

Moreover, they believed that when Miss Xu encountered this kind of incident, as long as they intimidated her a little, she certainly wouldn’t dare tell the school about it, and would simply yield to their bullying.

They never anticipated that Miss Xu wouldn’t return alone, and she would bring a big group of girls, along with a teacher. As a result, they couldn’t utter anything overly outrageous, so they chose to get to know the people, planning to corner Miss Xu when they caught her alone later.

What they never saw coming was that they would end up being caught red-handed and there would be so many witnesses.

The student who fled, just like the counselor had shouted, fleeing would not help. Among the group of girls, some knew which class that male student was in. Even if no one knew, the school could find out by simply asking the student whose hand had been trampled by Miss Xu Xiaoyan.

The male student was currently hiding in his dorm, nervously anticipating. When he saw school leaders accompanied by police, his legs immediately went weak.

Every student in the school knew that if it was merely a brawl between students, as long as it didn’t involve gang fights or physical disability, most disputes were handled internally in the school. If the situation was not particularly serious, censure at most would be carried out, and if the student behaved well in school, this punishment would be rescinded before graduation.

But once it involved thugs from outside the school, the matter would definitely become serious.

Although this student only guided a few thugs to identify a person, if handled in usual manner, this student would just be considered as a guide, not a major offense. However, from the school’s perspective, colluding with outsiders to target its own students is absolutely intolerable. Considering the student now has a police record, the school could choose disciplinary actions ranging from reproof to expulsion.

Without much interrogation, this student confessed in hopes of receiving a lighter punishment rather than expulsion.

The one who instigated these thugs was the student who had had a conflict with Xu Xiaoyan. The police station had already gone to arrest him.

Officer Chen told them that since the school leaders had left for lunch and would be back soon, they should stay.

Regardless of how the matter was taken care of later, at least the immediate need was to bring all the stakeholders to the scene, then decide according to the school’s and Xu Xiaoyan’s willingness to mediate. If they did not accept mediation, they would follow the standard procedure, where punishment would be given as necessary.

After learning about the situation, Yan Fei, dragging Miss Xu, told the officer that they would wait outside the police station.

After they left, Yan Fei found a quiet place and said to Miss Xu, "Let’s wait here! There’s no rush to see the trees, we’ll wait here and see what happens."

Miss Xu would definitely listen to him now. She nodded her head, and they waited outside the police station.

After a short while, a police car arrived, with an officer escorting a student who had bandages on his hand.

Seeing Xu Xiaoyan there, the student suddenly became defiant and yelled at her, "Don’t be so proud, at most, I will be expelled by the school. Just wait, you won’t get away with this..."

Did he still think he was at school? After shouting for a bit, he was pushed and reprimanded by the policeman behind him.

Yan Fei held Miss Xu’s hand and whispered, "Don’t be afraid of him. We will see what the school officials have to say when they arrive..."

Miss Xu looked a bit worried, "Should we accept the mediation? If we don’t, the school will definitely punish him. What if he continues to give me trouble after this?"

"What are you afraid of, I am here!" Yan Fei said calmly.

Before the two could continue their conversation, representatives from the school arrived. Seeing the two there, the school counselor who came with the two school leaders greeted Xu Xiaoyan, "I was wondering where to find you two! It’s good that you are here, now let’s discuss..."

Then, in a low voice, she added, "That student’s parents have already contacted the school authorities. They will be here soon as well. I don’t know what their agreement is yet, they will be here in a moment. You don’t have to say anything for now, let’s just listen to what they have to say..."
