Chapter 326: Chapter 46 Chase, Bee, Rose_1

With his wife, hand in hand, stepping out of the front gate to see the bustling traffic on the streets, Yan Fei felt limitless as the sea and sky. His mood became incredibly buoyant.

Riding his bike leisurely along the street after exiting their home, he watched people come and go, feeling utterly blissful—until Miss Xu Xiaoyan asked him from behind, "Yan Xiaofei, where are you planning to take me to have a good time?"

Yan Fei was taken aback and absent-mindedly peddled his bicycle for a long while before he puzzled, "I’m not familiar with the Provincial City, how would I know where to go for fun?"

Xu Xiaoyan was quite annoyed, "Then why do you seem in such a hurry, I thought you had a good idea of where to go!"

Yan Fei was innocent, "Then you’ve been here for over a month, do you know of any good places to visit?"

The young woman was still racking her brain trying to recall interesting places when all of a sudden a bicycle overtook them from behind, moving at quite a fast speed. Yan Fei spotted a box with words written on it on the back seat of the bicycle which immediately piqued his interest. He turned his head to Xu Xiaoyan and said, "Hold on tight, I’m going to catch up with that biker to ask him something!"

The young woman wrapped her arms around his waist and asked, "What is it?"

As Yan Fei began to speed up he replied, "You’ll find out soon."

The intersection of North Ring Road was just up ahead. The bike made a sudden turn at the intersection and got onto the less crowded and wider North Ring Road, speeding up even more.

Yan Fei’s bicycle was a bit lacking. Although it was newer than the other guy’s bike, it was an old type of bicycle. The cyclist was also a robust man. Seeing him pedelling with all his might, without carrying any extra weight, he was just as fast as Yan Fei’s bike that had an extra person to pull.

Seeing that he couldn’t catch up, Yan Fei simply stopped.

The young woman still asked him, "Why did you stop, what happened to that guy?"

Just then, a large truck roared by. Yan Fei said, "Watch the bike for a moment."

Upon saying that, he darted forward and with a few leaping strides, he was clinging to the back of the large truck——there were too many people around, it wouldn’t look good to just jump on outright.

The truck had slowed down at the intersection and was now picking up speed. Yan Fei clung onto the back, he watched the truck overtake the racing cyclist, waved at him then jumped down.

As the man cycled over, Yan Fei initiated the conversation by asking, "Uncle, this honey is from your own bees, right?"

The man nodded and chuckled, "Yes, it’s our own. I’m just delivering to the store today, so there’s only an empty box left. If you want some, give me your address and I’ll deliver it tomorrow. You’re quite a young man, was it necessary to hitch a ride on a truck just to buy honey? Don’t do this again, it’s pretty dangerous."

"Thank you, uncle. It’s not the honey I’m after, but rather, I wanted to ask if you have bees for sale?" Yan Fei thanked the man for his kindness, then revealed his own intention.

"We do have bees, but this is not the season to buy them. Have you ever kept bees before? It’s not easy for bees to survive the winter. If you haven’t kept bees before, you should wait until spring next year to buy them. By then you’ll have had one year of experience and won’t have to worry about the winter." The man was quite honest, and he straightforwardly got his point across.

But Yan Fei wasn’t concerned about that, "No worries, I have a plastic greenhouse at my place, it won’t be too cold in the winter. Could you leave me your address? I’ll visit you in a few days."

The man nodded, "If you have a greenhouse, it should be fine, but you should still pay attention. Follow this road straight ahead, after about eighty to ninety li there’s a place on the left called Gu Family Store. Once you’re there just ask anyone for Old Gu who keeps bees and you’ll find me. If I’m not there, whoever is there will know if you tell them we’ve spoken. I’ll let them know when I return."

Having agreed on this, Old Gu felt a bit uneasy. He said his hurry to get home made him cycle fast. He also reminded Yan Fei again not to hitch rides on vehicles in the future.

Yan Fei didn’t even ask about the price. The man seemed sincere and not the type to swindle people. Doing business with this kind of person makes life easier.

After Old Gu left, Xu Xiaoyan, riding her bike, came over. She had also caught sight of the words on the box on Old Gu’s rear seat and asked Yan Fei, "Were you going to buy honey? Why didn’t you get any?"

Yan Fei smiled and took over the bike, "I wasn’t going for the honey, I wanted to buy bees. Now you’ll have honey to eat in the future."

Xu Xiaoyan was puzzled: "Are you crazy? To have honey, you have to raise bees, so to eat meat..."

She was unable to finish her sentence, initially wanting to say that to eat meat, he would need to raise pigs, but then, hadn’t he already got forty-something pigs at home!

Yan Fei laughed: "Bees pollinate flowers! In the future, the vegetables in the greenhouse will need pollination, so it seems just right to get some bees. I was planning to look around near our place when we got home! But since we’ve come across them now, let’s just buy them here."

Hearing he needed them, the girl didn’t raise the issue anymore and grumbled: "We’ve made our way to North Ring Road, where are we going to have fun now!"

All of a sudden, her eyes lit up with an idea: "See the place ahead with the scaffolding? Do you see it? That’s a flower market, let’s go there and have a look!"

Flowers and plants luckily held no real allure for Yan Fei, but since the girl wanted to go, why not!

As soon as the two of them parked and entered the greenhouse, Yan Fei was invigorated: "Once I get my vegetables growing well, building a greenhouse like this would be ideal!"

The flower market’s greenhouse was indeed big, several stories high, for sure. As to the exact extent? Anyway, he could see to the left and right, but not the far end, it was too crowded with people and impossible to see what was growing there.

"Hmm!" The girl had a lot of faith in Yan Fei and felt confident he would eventually build such a greenhouse.

Yan Fei wasn’t interested in all these flowers and plants, so he just accompanied the girl looking around until they came to a rose bed. The girl couldn’t help but exclaim: "Such beautiful roses!"

Yan Fei was puzzled: "Isn’t this a Chrysanthemum?"

"Pfft!"

As soon as his words fell, a girl’s laughter came from behind them.

Both Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan turned around to see a rosy-cheeked little girl desperately trying to contain her laughter!

The couple with the little girl was apologising, with the mother schooling her while the father explained with a smile to the two: "Saying it’s a chrysanthemum isn’t wrong. Roses are like chrysanthemums, both in the Rosaceae family it’s easy to get them confused. Here, the two flowers aren’t really distinguished that clearly. Street flower shops mainly sell what they call roses, but they’re actually just chrysanthemums.’

He continued to apologize: ’The kid doesn’t know any better. Don’t be offended.’

Yan Fei was quite open: ’No problem, thanks for the explanation, I really didn’t know.’

The flowerbed’s boss hailed them: ’Young man, buy a rose for your girlfriend? This symbolizes love!’

Xu Xiaoyan quickly held Yan Fei’s hand and told the owner: ’We don’t want that.’

After they had walked a few more steps, Yan Fei questioned her, wondering: ’Why were you in such a hurry?’

She glared at him: ’Because I was afraid you would go off and stupidly buy some flower! I’ve heard people talking about how cheap those flowers are wholesale. They only jack up the prices when they see customers like us.’

Feeling innocent, Yan Fei responded: ’Am I that stupid? You can’t even eat this stuff like meat!’

"Pfft!"

That little girl’s laughter came again from behind them. She was really out of luck today. Having been unable to stop laughing once again at their conversation, without a doubt, further got her scolded by her mother.

Yan Fei didn’t make a fuss, and continued speaking to Xu Xiaoyan: ’Also, if you want these, I have plenty. What’s the need to buy them here? I’ve planted half an acre. If you like them, next spring we can plant more around the riverside.’
