Chapter 327: Chapter 47 Unlucky Kid_1

When Yan Fei mentioned that he had planted half an acre of roses, the little girl, who had been educated by her mother, murmured, "That’s a lie!"

However, having just been chastised multiple times, her voice was very low. Besides Yan Fei, no one else could hear her.

Yan Fei didn’t bother arguing with this little girl, even though she was about the same age as him.

He wasn’t exaggerating at all. He had just discovered that what he had stolen from the Credit Cooperative was not Chinese roses but actual roses. Those two large rose bushes he had cut into sections and planted by the small pond - half an acre was an underestimate!

All girls love flowers. Hearing Yan Fei’s words, she imagined a scene of blooming flowers and was immediately enthralled: "Won’t it be a lot of trouble to plant so many? When I come back on holiday, I’ll help you plant them. Let’s plant some around the greenhouse too. It’ll be beautiful when they bloom!"

Yan Fei nodded, "It’s not troublesome at all, they’re very easy to grow, just stick them in the ground and they’ll survive. I also plan to plant willow trees by the river, and fill the middle with roses. That way, we wouldn’t have to worry about bees not having nectar to gather either."

While the two of them were imagining their bright future, they suddenly heard a loud argument up front: "Eight hundred? This isn’t ten years ago, Clivia isn’t that expensive anymore! How dare you ask for eight hundred for this sickly pot of grass? Isn’t this a rip-off? Why don’t you ask for eighty thousand instead?"

"You still want the sickly one?" The other voice was definitely the seller, and it was equally loud. "Let everyone see if this pot of flowers is worth eight hundred. Everyone, take a look! Am I ripping anyone off? Where does this flower look sickly?"

The first voice spoke again: "Your yelling doesn’t make anyone else buy it! Only if I say it is worth it, will it be worth it. What are you yelling for!"

"Clearly, you were the one who yelled first." The seller’s voice sounded a bit helpless. "Fine! Come on, if you say it worth eight hundred, then tell me what price you think is fair?"

"How about seven hundred and fifty? I didn’t bring that much money, and I still need to take a taxi home!" The buyer’s voice was understandably subdued.

However, the crowd around them, initially noisy, was silenced by their loud voices. Even at a lower volume, many people still heard them.

Everyone immediately understood that there was nothing wrong with the seller’s flowers; the buyer was just trying to bargain in hopes of saving some taxi fare. A burst of laughter ensued.

The buyer probably got the joke as well: "Fine, fine, pay up and leave! Just for bargaining, did you have to raise your voice so high?"

Amused, Xu Xiaoyan pulled Yan Fei forward to get a better look. Before they managed to push through the crowd, they saw it disperse and an old man, all smiles, walk out with a pot of flower. The crowd not only made way for him but also let out friendly laughter.

After the old man passed, Yan Fei was perplexed again: "Isn’t this a scam? This small pot of flower, which you can’t eat or drink, costs seven to eight hundred. That’s the price I get for a pig. The less practical things are, the more expensive they become!"

Xu Xiaoyan sympathetically nodded; she was aware that a pig did not even sell for eight hundred back when they were selling pigs!

The pedestrian path in the middle of the flower market was really narrow. Unfortunately, the misbehaving little girl her mother had repeatedly admonished was still behind them.

This unlucky child, upon hearing Yan Fei’s words, finally couldn’t help but interjected: "What do you mean the less practical things are, the more expensive they get! The flower will look pleasing in the house once it’s bought. An eight hundred plant must be a rare species, having such a pot really increases one’s status! If you think like that, you should go to the Antique City where things are even more impractical and more expensive! Just one of the more expensive items can cost you the cost of selling hundreds of pigs!"

"I mainly raise cattle, and I only have dozens of pigs. Once they’re sold, I won’t raise them again, definitely not as many as you said." Yan Fei turned to the little girl, his curiosity piqued, he wasn’t trying to refute her. "The Antique City you mentioned, what is it? Are everything there really that expensive?"

The unfortunate girl was dragged off for more education after she finished speaking. Her dad hurriedly answered Yan Fei’s question: "Antique City sells antiques. It’s not far from here, you can get there by bus No. 88. It’s one of the stops, just ask around and you’ll find it. Not everything there is that expensive, most are quite affordable. My kid is spoiled by her grandparents, don’t be like her."

Yan Fei nodded: "No worries! We don’t come to Provincial City often, so we really didn’t know about this. We were thinking of wandering around and seeing different places, so we should thank her for reminding us!"

The man who was acting as a father felt a sudden surge of goodwill towards Yan Fei when he realized he wasn’t being sarcastic. The man even gave them advice: "You can visit Antique City for fun, just don’t make impulsive purchases. Nowadays, everyone has money and antiques have become valuable. You hear the saying, gold in times of chaos, antiques in times of peace. Once these things become valuable, fakes will follow. Even experts can’t tell the difference between fake and real antiques... "

Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan weren’t bothered by the man’s verbosity; it was clear he was knowledgeable and they were thoroughly intrigued.

Not only did he know about antiques, but he also knew about flowers and plants. As they moved through the market, he occasionally introduced them to different plants. Xu Xiaoyan especially benefited from this.

As for Yan Fei, well! He just wasn’t really interested in these "impractical" things and only half-heartedly listened along.

Only when he occasionally saw plants that could produce fruit would he bother asking the man anything. When he found out that most of these fruits were not edible, he didn’t ask any more questions.

The ’intractable’ little girl had just received another round of education, and was feeling resentful. Seeing Xu Xiaoyan asking questions left and right, she couldn’t help but complain: "How come you two don’t know anything?"

Her voice wasn’t very loud, but Yan Fei heard it. He would have ignored her had she only been talking about him. But since she involved his wife this time, he couldn’t resist defending her.

So, he honestly and sincerely told the little girl: "We’re from a small town. She has been focused on her studies and helps out at home during holidays. She just got into the Provincial University Law School this year! Otherwise, we wouldn’t have come here today. We haven’t been exposed to these things before, so we didn’t know about all their varieties."

The little girl’s mother laughed along and seized the moment to reprimand her daughter: "You’re about to take the high school entrance exam, and yet you’re not studying. Look at this big sister here; she made it into Provincial University, and not just any department, but the best - Law School. Can’t you put a little effort into your studies? All you think about when school is out is playing. After we return home, you better start studying. We’ll pass by the bookstore on the way back, I’ll buy some study guides for you. Make good use of the holiday..."

Upon hearing about the study guides, the little girl’s spirits dwindled. Even when they were parting ways outside the market, the ill-fated child looked at Yan Fei like he was a sworn enemy. Yan Fei was utterly confused.
