Yan Fei felt absolutely content the moment he managed to bring Xu Xiaoyan out alone.

With his girlfriend by his side, he was in high spirits, copying from books much faster than usual. He completely forgot the zeal he showed earlier when he was talking to the girl, to the point he didn’t even want to step into the library’s main gate, but she pushed him to go in.

As he was copying, he suddenly stopped his pen, quickly picked up the book he was copying from, and started flipping through it back and forth.

As he looked through it, his expression gradually changed from thoughtful to enlightened, then to annoyed, and finally to cheerful—it was truly a series of exciting changes.

The girl, who had been watching him all this while, obviously wouldn’t miss these changes in his expression. She whispered in confusion, "What are you doing? Did you find something interesting again?"

"Yes! Because I found out that flowers need bees to pollinate them to bear fruit!" Yan Fei said seriously, as if this was a world-shaking discovery.

"Tsk! Stop goofing around and get back to copying! It’s getting late!" The girl scolded him with a glare and urged him to continue his studies.

"No need to. I’ll leave after copying this section. Having made a discovery today is already satisfying. Besides, I’ve copied quite a bit earlier." Yan Fei cheerfully finished copying the passage, and quickly put the book back on the shelf.

The girl also put away the book she was reading and walked out of the library’s main gate with him.

Yan Fei was riding the bike with the girl, and although they didn’t say anything, she could clearly feel that his mood was uplifted. Then, somewhat inexplicably, her mood also lightened.

There were still quite a few pedestrians out in the provincial city at night. Some were obviously hurriedly returning home from work, but most were students from nearby schools, rushing to get back before the dormitory door closed.

There were also many couples like them. The sweet gestures of a couple on a bike across the street made Xu Xiaoyan blush slightly. Then, she gently leaned her body to rest her face on his no longer skinny back.

She quickly sat upright again, however.

"What’s wrong?" Yan Fei, sensing her movement, slowed down and asked as he turned his head back.

"Nothing, let’s keep going!" The girl’s soft voice responded, and at the same time, the hand encircling his waist gently pinched him. "It’s getting late!"

"Okay!" Yan Fei agreed, but his speed remained unrushed.

There weren’t many cars on the road, and the street lights weren’t especially bright. A breeze blew gently, causing the leaves of the plane trees growing along the streetside to rustle, which made the girl hum a tune in her brightened mood.

So Yan Fei slowed his pedalling even more.

Only at the sight of the dormitory gate locked with an iron chain did the girl glare at Yan Fei and complain, "See? This is all because you were cycling so slowly; now we’re in trouble! I’m sure I’ll be the laughingstock tomorrow!"

Yan Fei glanced at the apartment building and offhandedly asked as he parked his bike, "Can’t you just shout at them to open the door? Isn’t the dormkeeper living right by this gate?"

The girl grumbled angrily, "Do you think all universities are like your middle school? The teachers there were so accommodating; you could even skip the classes. The dormitory keeper here, she’s really difficult to deal with. If you shout for her to open the gate, she will definitely give you a piece of her mind. I don’t want to listen to that!"

Yan Fei chuckled ceaselessly, "Do you want me to shout then?"

"Are you out of your mind? If I shout, I’m already in trouble – if you shout, I’ll be doomed! And you’re still laughing, I’m going to pinch you hard!" The girl was irritated at the sight of him and reached out to pinch him.

"If you pinch me until it hurts, I won’t be able to lift you up there!"

"What?" The girl’s eyes widened in surprise. Upon reconsidering the height of the balcony and flashing back to the ease with which Yan Fei had once carried her over a fence at a cattle farm, she suddenly understood. She rushed over to pinch him again. "You’re such a pig! Why didn’t you say that earlier? You love to tease me, don’t you? Do you think this is fun?"

It finally dawned on the girl that if Yan Fei could easily lift her over a fence, getting her up to the balcony of similar height would also be a piece of cake.

"Stop playing, you’ll attract attention if we make noise. Come here, let me help you get up!"

"Okay!" The girl obediently walked over to allow Yan Fei to lift her. "Hurry up! Why are you not jumping?"

"Give me a kiss. I won’t have the strength otherwise!" Yan Fei started to make a scene.

"You have plenty of strength! You’re just being difficult..." Although the girl grumbled, she leaned over to lightly touch his face with her lips.

"Ready? Jumping now!" He was so delighted with the light peck.

"Ah!" The girl gasped softly, only to find herself already on the balcony.

"Go inside! I have to go now!" As it was a break, students were free to do as they pleased. The lights in the dormitory were off, but some people were still talking inside. Yan Fei didn’t dare stay long. After putting the girl down, he prepared to jump down.

"Wait... don’t go! What should I say when I get inside?" The girl was struggling with another problem as she could now enter the dorm.

"Just say I lifted you up and you climbed up!"

"Can you really lift me that high?" The girl didn’t believe her own words.

"You can say you were standing on my hand and I lifted you up!"

"Do you think you’re an acrobat? Never mind, let’s just go with your story. They can choose to believe it or not. Be careful when you leave, I will be waiting for you tomorrow morning, you don’t have to come too early."

Although their whispering was done in low voices, any traces of movement on such a small balcony would be discernible from inside.

"Mm-hmm, someone’s coming. Better think about what you’re going to say..." Yan Fei quickly jumped down as he heard people coming. When his feet hit the ground, there was not a sound.

"It’s me!" IUpon hearing Xu Xiaoyan’s voice, the people inside finally relaxed a bit, followed by a flurry of questions.

Yan Fei stopped listening to the girl’s lies and leisurely cycled to a small garden, the very place where the girl used to massage his feet.

He parked his bike and walked into the flowerbed, and then entered Vegetable Garden Island.

Tomato Pterosaur eggs, braised Compsognathus, steamed giant salamander, stir-fried Devil Frog with green pepper...

Today he’d had a ’big discovery’ and was in a good mood, so he prepared a few more dishes. After all the fantastic food, there was watermelon for dessert. Life really couldn’t get any better!

He hummed a tune while eating and observed the surrounding vegetable field. Seeing the rose cuttings that had been planted more than a month ago were already sprouting new shoots, he reveled in contentment...
