Chapter 290: Chapter 11 - Cutting Hole to Save Dragon, Rescuing the Dead_1
I’m such a softie!
Having moved all the rubble below, Yan Fei sighed again. Morphing as a Cinerous Vulture, he soared to the top of the boulder, cleaning and throwing the small movable rocks down.
When landing back, a long-handled hammer appeared in his hand in a flash.
The sun was setting, but the lake remained calm.
Beneath the cliff, a loud "Bang!" echoed from the collapsed cave entrance.
As if turning into a compassionate monk, Yan Fei started to swing the hammer, striking the boulder like forging a metal, in order to rescue the Kronosaurus.
The hammer accurately fell on a spot on the giant stone he had observed carefully before.
Ah! I am such a softie!
After sighing again, another "Bang!" echoed across the lake.
The continuous loud bangs reverberated in the cave, scaring the three little Kronosaurusesses, making them retreat deeper into the cave.
There were only five or six boulders at the cave’s mouth, and the largest ones were several meters tall. Yan Fei was hitting the smallest and most irregularly shaped one.
The irregular shape signified that it was the easiest to smash. Debris started flying, and gradually, a crack appeared on the boulder.
The crack grew larger, causing Yan Fei’s heart to ache more.
Several times, he wanted to turn around and deliver a swift blow to the now weak and starving Kronosaurus.
O Kronosaurus!
I gave up the chance to transform into a Kronosaurus!
Each time he thought of the flexible necks of the Kronosaurus, their large paddle-like fins, chasing after prey in the water, Yan Fei felt a pang of regret.
Although a giant python is larger than a Kronosaurus, could they truly be compared? When it comes to abilities in water, a python can’t possibly beat a Kronosaurus! Snakes could only pose a threat to a Kronosaurus through sudden attacks.
The more he pondered, the more aggrieved he felt!
With hesitation and a bit of reluctance, the hammer fell once more, and with a rumble, the boulder finally cracked open.
Yan Fei disappeared at the instant the stone split. When the rocks above subsided, and stopped moving, he reappeared.
He tried to move the cracked stone, then raised his hammer again, to bash it with all his force. At last, he had smashed an opening, big enough for a small fish to pass through, in what was a tiny crevice.
Now that there was a small hole, the rest was easy. A few more hammer blows, and there it was - a large hole large enough for the biggest Kronosaurus to crawl out.
Having come this far, Yan Fei stopped agonizing. He moved back a few steps, allowing the Kronosaurus to see the light outdoors.
In fact, the starving Kronosaurus had noticed it as soon as he broke the small hole. They had grown excited.
The three little Kronosaurus didn’t even care about their fear of him. They crawled over with weak, strange noises.
The only large Kronosaurus that still had the strength to move jerkily sent out urgent calls to the small Kronosaurus not to be hammered by Yan Fei.
Those calls continued until the three small Kronosaurus, with their joyful noises, entered the lake through the river.
After the three small Kronosaurus left, Yan Fei pointed to the outdoors in front of the big Kronosaurus. He was not sure if it understood. In any case, it began to strenuously move itself towards the deeper part of the river.
Yan Fei walked over, remaining cautious of the Kronosaurus. Seeing that it didn’t show any hostility towards him, he impulsively pushed it into the middle of the river.
The water in the river was not very deep, but with this bit of help, the Kronosaurus could now slowly move towards the lake.
The closer to the lake it was, the deeper the water got. Quickly enough, the large Kronosaurus had made its way into the lake, out of sight. Needless to say, it must have been in a hurry to find food.
The last remaining Kronosaurus however, couldn’t. It was still alive but it hardly had the energy to keep its eyes open.
Yan Fei came up to it and gave it a little push. It opened its eyes when he showed it the direction of the cave entrance. Regardless of whether it understood or not, Yan Fei began to push it towards the deeper waters.
After two pushes, its spongy body hardly needed any force. Yan Fei started to get anxious and simply went up to it, held its neck and began dragging it into the water with all his might.
Hearing the Kronosaurus let out two weak cries from its throat, Yan Fei pushed harder.
Since he had saved it, he might as well go all the way and reunite them as a family!
Luckily it was already half submerged to start with, or else it would have truly been difficult to drag!
Finally, he dragged it into the deeper water and released its neck. He let out a strange cry.
He stood ashore, just about to catch his breath, stretching his arm towards the cave entrance, ready to point the Kronosaurus in that direction. To his shock, he realized that the moment he let go of the Kronosaurus, its feeble body sank straight into the water without a trace of movement anymore.
He held a strange expression on his face, as though he was foolish.
Just then, sounds of water came from the mouth of the cave again.
The large Kronosaurus that had left earlier had returned, swimming back into the cave with a small fish in its mouth.
Seeing that it had regained some energy, it was evident that it had eaten some food and quickly returned with sustenance for its companion.
Unfortunately, it was already too late.
The Kronosaurus that had sunk into the water, no matter how it was called, remained motionless, obviously it was gone completely.
Not long after, the other three small Kronosauruses also swam in.
The Kronosauruses wailed around their dead companion for a while, before finally following the large Kronosaurus into the lake.
As they swam past Yan Fei, the large Kronosaurus spared him a grateful glance before continuing into the lake.
At this moment, Yan Fei, having witnessed the entire scene from start to finish, maintained an odd expression on his face, one that was neither smiling nor crying.
It was only when the four Kronosauruses disappeared into the lake under the sunset, leaving the lake surface dyed red by the evening glow, that Yan Fei came back to his senses.
He looked out for a while, then back into the cave. He thought for a moment, before heading towards the innermost pond with a perplexed expression.
When he reached the edge of the pond, the Kronosauruses’ old lair, there would of course be no dangers in the water. So he walked straight into the water and started to swim.
Then, his body started to transform rapidly.
In the blink of an eye, a 15 to 16 meters long Kronosaurus appeared in the pond.
This Kronosaurus was somewhat similar to the one that had died outside, except this one was completely healthy and strong, unlike the emaciated one outside that had starved to death.
This was why Yan Fei was looking so odd.
At the moment when that Kronosaurus had completely sank into the water, lifeless, Yan Fei knew he had gained another transformation.
That’s right, that Kronosaurus that had been hanging onto life finally exhaled its last breath under his ’assistance’.
