Chapter 289: Chapter 10: Dragon in the Cave_1

What appeared before Yan Fei was a massive cave. Beneath the cave was a river. Using the faint light, one could see that there was a small pool connected to the deepest part of the river.

The so-called pool was not small at all. It was at least several acres in size.

However, these collapsed boulders just blocked the entrance of the cave, making the space behind them invisible if not observed carefully from the outside.

The boulders underfoot did not fully block the water flow; there must be some small gaps that allowed the small fish to swim in.

Upon swimming in, these small fish were greeted by three mouths filled with sharp teeth.

The owners of these mouths were creatures with long, snake-like necks, bodies like torpedoes, four paddle-like fins, and tails shorter than their bodies.

They were three small Kronosaurus, each about four to five metres long.

They were referred to as small Kronosaurus because a bit further away were two larger Kronosaurus, much bigger than the smaller ones.

Among the two large Kronosaurus, the slightly smaller one was still three times the size of the smaller species. However, it was lying motionless in the river at the moment.

The other, larger Kronosaurus was maintaining vigilance. Occasionally, when a small fish managed to bypass the three smaller Kronosaurus and tried to escape into the river, this Kronosaurus would quickly stretch out its head to catch the fish that thought they had escaped.

However, it would just catch the fish, with no intention of eating it. The fish it had captured were laboriously regurgitated onto the river bank, waiting for the three small Kronosaurus to eat them.

The two large and three small Kronosaurus had one particularly conspicuous common characteristic: they were all as skinny as sticks.

The three smaller Kronosaurus were a bit better off, but for the two larger ones, Yan Fei doubted how the biggest one could still help the small Kronosaurus to catch fish, given they looked almost like mummies.

These Kronosaurus surely didn’t live in this small cave originally. Relying on the small fish which accidentally swam into this small pool and through the gaps below the boulders, they wouldn’t be able to attain their large size.

Undoubtedly, these creatures were once the overlords of a lake, the ruthless tyrants that ensured no big fish existed in the lake.

However, more undoubtedly, they were the most unfortunate and pitiful tyrants that Yan Fei had ever seen - even more unfortunate than the Terrestrisuchus that he had stomped to death, and more pitiful than the giant python that he had killed with a boulder.

Yan Fei didn’t need to think too much; by just observing the broken end of the stones, he could understand why these unlucky creatures were in such a predicament.

Apparently, not long ago, after the family of five had eaten and drunk to their heart’s content, they had returned to the cave to rest. The reason they chose to rest in the cave, situated beside the lake, was simple. They were not the only overlords near the lake, as there was also the existence of the giant python – an indisputable natural enemy for small Kronosaurus, adept at ambushing in water.

Then, unfortunately, a few giant stones came tumbling down and collapsed the entrance of the cave while they were resting there.

Thus, the family who was unable to escape in time was completely trapped inside like turtles in a pot.

What happened after this was self-evident.

Upon discovering that they were unable to enter the lake to hunt, the family of Kronosaurus could do nothing but stay in the river, waiting for the small fish that accidentally swam in through the crevices under the boulders.

And the quantity of those small fish was not even enough to maintain their lives, let alone to satisfy their hunger.

In this situation, due to their animal instincts, the two parent Kronosaurus decided to let the three little ones eat the food.

So, at present, the three younger ones were still able to hunt in a weak manner whilst their parents were nearly out of breath and could die at any moment. Yes, the larger Kronosaurus, which had been immobile, was not dead yet. Yan Fei could still see it breathing faintly.

But this was just the unfortunate part of it. The truly pitiful part was yet to come.

Not long from now, the two larger Kronosaurus would starve to death first.

Then, the three remaining young Kronosaurus would have to depend on the small fish accidentally swimming into the river to sustain their lives, and they would continue to grow. However, as they gradually grew bigger, the occasional small fish would no longer be enough to support the growth of three Kronosaurus.

As a result, only the largest of the Kronosaurus would remain, living in the river, suffering from the lack of food, and spending its days in solitude. It would only be accompanied by the gradually decaying bodies of its family members. It would struggle to survive day by day until it eventually died as well.

Truly pitiful!

Yan Fei just pondered the possible scenario that was about to unfold, and felt that for these Kronosaurus, it would be better to die sooner than live such a miserable life.

Then, flapping his wings, he jumped down, turned back into his human form, and greeted the few Kronosaurus who were staring at him. "Hi! Your savior is here. Say hello to your benefactor!"

Seeing ’food’ dropping from the sky, the three young Kronosaurus instantly squealed and lunged at him.

Their attempt to pounce was actually pitifully slow; they were clumsy land creatures. Moreover, they were famished and lacked energy.

Thus, Yan Fei easily stamped on the head of one using his foot, while holding the heads of the other two with his hands.

The three young Kronosaurus struggled desperately on the ground while the other two larger ones exerted all their remaining strength to send out weak cries.

The slightly larger Kronosaurus which was just hunting fish attempted to climb ashore to save its children but could only crawl a little bit before it became immobile. As for the one which had been unmoving, given its current state, it was already a miracle that it had managed to raise its head and give a weak cry. It barely had any strength left to move.

After waiting a while, Yan Fei released his hands and feet, and the three young Kronosaurus that were pretending to be dead immediately fled to the river. They retreated to the side of the two large Kronosaurus and dared not approach any further.

Without paying any more attention to the Kronosaurus, Yan Fei turned around to look at the collapsed boulders behind him. He then began to move some of the rubble.

Whilst doing so, he sighed, "I am becoming softer and softer."

Yes, he was planning to clear the blockage from the river, save these Kronosaurus, and release them into the lake.

Perhaps, based on his old temperament, he would have just moved a rock from the top of the collapsed rocks and crushed the largest Kronosaurus to death.

After acquiring the power of transformation from the Kronosaurus, he would then put the smaller ones in a pot and, finally, bury them in his stomach. At least doing this would save them from their impending miserable fate of dying from starvation.

However, upon seeing that the largest Kronosaurus, which was already one breath away from death, was still using its last bit of strength to catch small fish and laboriously spat them onto the river bank, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
