Chapter 200: Chapter 66 Giant Python_1
The sky was filled with red clouds.
The peaceful lake, bathed in the glow of the sunset, exuded an extraordinary beauty.
In the forest on the hillside, a cinerous vulture flapped its wings and gently landed on the back of a graceful large dinosaur.
Ever since Yan Fei told Xu Xiaoyan that half-true, half-false story, he felt as if he had discarded a heavy burden that he had been carrying around all the time, making him feel at ease.
Under the girl’s supervision, he spent the afternoon diligently doing his summer vacation homework. With her around, he found the words "happy holidays" on the cover of his holiday homework much easier to swallow.
He never felt that way before. With such a stack of homework in front of him, how could any student be happy? Wasn’t this akin to adding legs to a snake or the yellow weasel wishing the chicken a happy New Year, in other words, an action that was redundant at best and harmful at worst?
The large dinosaur swung its long tail, paying no heed to the bird on its back, continuing to walk leisurely forward. This allowed Yan Fei to observe his surroundings whilst indulging in daydreams.
It was difficult to identify this dinosaur’s species, Yan Fei couldn’t put his finger on its name even after multiple inspections.
Simply put, there were too many dinosaurs like this.
The tiny head at the end of the long neck looked like a python’s. Of course, it’s "small" only in comparison to its vast body. The rest of its body consisted of a vast torso and four limbs on the ground, followed by a long tail at the back. Yan Fei was aware of at least seven or eight hundred, if not a thousand, species of dinosaurs like this. Mamenchisaurus, Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus, Seismosaurus, Sauroposeidon, Supersaurus, Argentinosaurus, Puertasaurus, Amphicoelias fraillimus... And so on.
The dinosaur where Yan Fei perched was one of the first few he saw during the wee hours of the morning, easily identifiable as it was one of six in its group — four adults and two juveniles. This type of dinosaur, from head to tail, was only about twenty meters long which, among all similar looking dinosaurs, was of average size.
However, this was already the biggest creature Yan Fei had ever seen. After racking his brains, he eventually recalled a name from memory: Camarasaurus. The dinosaur with this name was the most similar to the one Yan Fei was perched on. He couldn’t discern or think of any others.
Seeing that the dinosaur beneath him was not bothered by his transformation into a cinerous vulture, Yan Fei grew bolder. He gradually moved towards the dinosaur’s neck along its spine. Then, following the long neck, he continued moving towards its head.
At this moment, it was Xu Xiaoyan’s yoga learning time. Originally, Yan Fei was supposed to ’accompany her’, but after doing a full afternoon of summer homework, he was feeling lightheaded and didn’t want to stay in the room. He made up an excuse and left. Showing great generosity, the girl let him off for the night, giving him time to start exploring the ring-shaped island.
Yan Fei had seen it all from the sky already. The island, looking like a giant bowl placed in the middle of the sea, was christened ’Ring Island’ without any pondering necessary.
Then, he landed on the dinosaur he had just christened ’Camarasaurus’ to observe what kind of creatures lived on this ring-shaped island.
As he slowly ascended the Camarasaurus’ neck, it uneasily shook its neck. Yan Fei merely flew up and suspended for a moment before landing back down, finally stopping behind the dinosaur’s head.
This position was just right. If he went any further, even this easy-going dinosaur would get angry; his next stop would be between its eyes and near the nostrils. Right now, Yanfei felt these big guys were being quite cooperative and he didn’t want to push them any further.
In the past, exploring a new island would be done with utmost caution in order to guard against sudden danger—even if he could teleport back instantly. But never had he experienced an exploration as comfortable as this one, standing atop a towering dinosaur, his eyes taking in the panorama just like a king inspecting his mountain.
There were three other Camarasauruses around him, all slightly smaller than the one he was standing on. They guarded the two smaller Camarasauruses in the middle. After seeing Yan Fei land on the leader’s head, they only gave him a glance, no more attention afterwards.
Outside, the world had already grown dark, yet here he could still see the twilight, which conveniently allowed Yan Fei to observe this new island.
The large pig-like dinosaurs that he had seen before, the Protoceratops, were there too. He also saw some other strange creatures. If they seemed neither useful nor dangerous, Yan Fei couldn’t be bothered to research what they were.
Surprisingly, there were no carnivorous dinosaurs in sight, making Yan Fei wonder whether they were hiding in the mountains.
Each island has a separate and peculiar ecological environment. Knowing his limits, Yan Fei didn’t plan to use his less than junior high level biology knowledge to find a reasonable explanation for all this.
So, no matter what happened here, he wouldn’t be too surprised.
Although he initially planned to stay on the island briefly before hurrying back, now that he had a ’mount’, he didn’t want to return, and just followed these Camarasauruses leisurely towards the lakeside.
Even though these guys looked slow, they actually moved at a fairly decent speed.
The slope near the lake had fewer trees due to the abundance of rocks, which made the view more open.
Noticing that the Camarasauruses were heading to the lakeside to drink water, Yan Fei didn’t continue to stand behind the dinosaur’s head. Instead, he obediently flew to the Camarasauruses’ back and waited to observe how they drank water and how they would react.
The cautious expression of the Protoceratops when they were drinking water indicated a definite threat in the lake. But considering the size of the Protoceratops, there were many creatures that could threaten them, so their reaction had no reference value. If the Camarasauruses were also like that, then Yan Fei would consider not approaching the lake in the short term.
Fortunately, observing how the Camarasauruses were casually drinking water, Yan Fei understood. Just thinking that there might be some large carnivores in the lake? Apparently not.
Also, such beautiful scenery, if a few large crocodiles popped out, it would ruin it.
Just as he was about to fly off to explore elsewhere, suddenly, he noticed a pile of earth not too far away shift slightly out of the corner of his eye.
Then he instinctively flew up.
Not only did he take flight, but the Camarasauruses also showed minor agitation.
Flying in the air, Yan Fei had noticed the large pile of earth earlier. Although the light was gradually dimming and his sight wasn’t very clear, the shape of the pile was quite noticeable, like a huge, contorted pile of poop.
The trees by the lake were relatively small, and this poop-shaped mound was as tall as a small tree. Coupled with its strange shape, it was difficult not to pay attention to it.
The "mound" remained still, but when it moved, it caused quite a stir. Under Yan Fei’s watchful gaze, a head slowly poked out from the "mound", followed by a slightly thin neck and then an increasingly thick body.
This wasn’t a mound at all, it was clearly a huge python.
As the python’s body gradually unfolded, Yan Fei couldn’t help but curse in his heart: Crap!
A moment ago, he was relieved to see no large crocodiles ruining the scenery. Blinking an eye, he discovered the super-sized ’poop’ was actually a giant python. Could things get any more frustrating?
Slightly estimating, he figured that the snake’s body length must be seventeen or eighteen meters if not twenty, and its body should be more than one meter in diameter.
This one-meter diameter was in a normal state, but the python was now in an abnormal state. It had apparently eaten recently, with a bulging section about five or six meters long and three or four meters in diameter on its belly. It was unknown what unfortunate dinosaur it had eaten.
A satiated python moved slowly, which explained why the Camarasaurus under Yan Fei’s feet was only slightly disturbed before calmly continuing to drink water. If it were a hungry python, the two little Camarasaurus nearby would likely be a tasty meal for it.
The python probably felt that the Camarasaurus disturbed its rest, so it only chose to leisurely move to a different location, resting on a large rock exposed from the ground. It lazily lay still again, without even coiling its body.
Seeing its state, it was estimated that it would not move again for quite a while.
