Chapter 1542: Chapter 741 Buying a Car

The early morning of summer is a rare comfortable time of the day, when the temperature hasn’t yet risen, and even sleeping in feels particularly cozy.

Yan Fei was swinging his hoe early in the morning, breaking ground in a field. Next to him were six Black-back Big Wolf Dogs, their backs black and the rest of their bodies golden, joyfully frolicking around him.

This was at his home in Provincial City, where now the ’backyard’ had been completely surrounded by tall walls, with a big gate that faced the house. However, that gate was unlikely to be used since Yan Fei had opened another one behind the original yard, providing direct access.

In Provincial City, this backyard was probably unique, especially since the final auction price was more than ten million for the ’backyard’—ordinary people certainly couldn’t afford it.

Now, most of the yard, aside from the walls and a row of red bricks lined up along the walls, was planted with corn. These were leftovers from before the land was auctioned. When someone suddenly wanted to buy the land, Yan Fei had suggested a price of several million, and instantly, the crops became worthless—now, they all belonged to Yan Fei.

Yan Fei was now behind the house, preparing to cultivate another piece of land, planning to plant more vegetables and fruit, perhaps even raise some chickens and ducks in the future. With such a large yard, it would be a waste not to use it.

Because the yard was indeed quite large, the original two dogs were not enough to keep watch, so he simply brought in a few more. Three of the six dogs were noticeably larger—a result of their time spent in the dinosaur world. They now looked not only bigger and fiercer but their tails were like mops, clearly distinguishing them from the other three.

However, it was obvious that no matter how big or fierce they were, they all had to behave in front of their unreasonable owner, or else they would be disciplined.

When the sun started to scorch, Xu Xiaoyan came out from the courtyard and called out to him, "Yan Xiaofei, come back for lunch!"

Yan Fei hoisted his hoe upon his shoulder, and with a swagger like an old farmer, strolled back with a pack of wolf dogs trailing behind him.

Tomorrow was the first day of school, and Yan Fei felt he should keep a low profile, so he had quietly visited his parents yesterday afternoon before heading to Provincial City. Now that he, a member of the Yan family, had gained some fame, the school had asked someone to discuss with him the possibility of speaking at the high school’s opening ceremony, and the City’s Writers Association had sent him an invitation... If he hadn’t left then, it’s likely that other associations would have come knocking too.

After eating, Xu Xiaoyan also wanted to should some tools to help him with the work, but Yan Fei couldn’t bear to let his wife toil under the sun: "Just stand by my side with an umbrella and chat with me. The ground is almost ready, just need to level it a bit and see what seeds to plant, there’s not much left to do."

They hadn’t been working long when Wang Jiuming called, "Xiao Fei, when are you coming for the start of school, so we can throw you a welcome party?"

Yan Fei laughed and declined: "I’m already here, but let’s skip the welcome party. I’m just here to study, what’s all this about a party? We’ll have time for that later."

Wang Jiuming was not too formal with him: "Okay then, we’ll talk about it later. You should call Teacher He, he’s been back for two days and keeps mentioning you."

Yan Fei wondered why Professor He, after spending a whole summer in Sancha River, had come back only to keep mentioning him. He called, and Comrade Old He answered with an urgent tone, "You lad, you’re here and didn’t even tell me! I think of you every day! Wait for me; I’ll be over in a moment..."

Soon enough, the old man came rushing over, still quite courteous, holding several beautifully packaged gifts, "Come on, I ran all the way here and got heated up; quickly brew me a pot of tea to drink, see, I’ve even brought gifts."

Yan Fei looked at those gifts and didn’t stand on ceremony, "You had nowhere else to dump them, right?"

Professor He chuckled and settled down to watch Xu Xiaoyan brew tea. Yan Fei was spot on—the gifts were from former students who brought them when they heard he was back. He was in good health, so he didn’t fancy these supplements at all. With nowhere to pass them on, he decided to bring them to Yan Fei.

As Xu Xiaoyan served tea with a smile, Teacher He couldn’t wait to start sipping, blowing on it first then taking a sip when it was cool enough, savoring it as though it was something delicious, and after a long pause, finally said, "This is the taste! I knew the school water wasn’t good, the tea wasn’t tasty, and your teacher mother wouldn’t believe me. Take some of your water here back with me later..."

Yan Fei was at a loss for words, thinking that He was genuinely thinking about him. Turned out he was just after his tea.

When He left, he took with him not only tea but other things too. The tap water in the school really tasted bad—in fact, it wasn’t just the school; people all over Provincial City felt that the water wasn’t good.

Yan Fei agreed, which is why he usually kept spring water from the dinosaur world in the water jar in the kitchen. Even raw water tasted clear and sweet, and it was definitely first-rate for brewing tea.

In the past, he used to hide this from his wife, and even came up with all sorts of peculiar excuses to fend her off. Eventually, he got tired of making up reasons. As long as he didn’t show off his abilities to create water out of thin air or move objects without physical contact in front of the girl, he didn’t care about hiding—the girl wasn’t a fool and could feel that he was different from ordinary people.

When he thought about it, there were many oddities about him. Sometimes the girl felt that even if she wanted to inquire, she wouldn’t know where to start asking. So she simply adhered to the excellent tradition of ’Follow the man you marry, be he a cock or dog’—as long as he didn’t speak of it, she never asked.
