Chapter 1390: Chapter 676: Miner, The Late Call_2

At the Public Security Bureau, Yan Fei had proposed to Director Nan that this operation was a joint action by several departments and that his small contribution did not warrant getting involved in the chaos, hoping that his name would be omitted from any publicity. Under Yan Fei’s insistence, Director Nan finally agreed to his suggestion.

"Isn’t our site already famous enough? Do we really need that little bit of fame?" Yan Fei retorted, "Even if they publicize me, what’s the benefit? I’d rather keep a low profile—maybe Comrade Old Nan will feel indebted and give Uncle Baoguo a promotion."

"That makes sense," Heizi nodded. "But I’m just worried that by doing this, they’ll think you’re scared of being retaliated against by the ones who got away in their gang!"

"Let them think what they want, but I doubt it will happen!" Yan Fei laughed, "Our site is quite well-known, at least within the Public Security system. When have we ever been scared of anything?"

"Hehe!" Heizi thought about it and laughed too.

Yan Fei stopped talking because his phone started ringing again, one call after another until his phone’s battery was dead, just as his car entered the cattle farm. All these calls were from people who had been at dinner earlier, asking if he had finished his work. The dinner had dispersed already; now their calls were merely a display of concern, and Yan Fei had no choice but to give a brief update to each.

After returning to his room and thinking about his recent work, Yan Fei went to the Dinosaur World. But he wasn’t there to see any scientific achievements, he was there to look for insects.

With a handheld lantern, he walked through the dark forest, surrounded by towering ancient trees, a setting that was incredibly suited for a horror movie. Saying this place was scary wasn’t just talk, it was definitely more horrifying than what humanity revered in the Amazon.

This wasn’t just Yan Fei’s own thought; it was hypothesized by researchers and validated through physical evidence. In this particularly conducive environment, insects that had evolved for millions of years were everywhere, which was more than enough to overwhelm an ordinary person.

As for fierce beasts, there was no need to mention them; those packs of carnivorous dinosaurs, even if someone came in with a machine gun, they wouldn’t likely survive two hours. When these predators encountered Yan Fei, the clever ones wouldn’t even face him, choosing instead to quickly leave. And the occasional dumber ones, they’d be scared off by his roar, dazed and running off.

The forest was a treasure trove; there was no need to seek out unchanging life forms—it was just filled with too many. Those bizarre insects and animals might look similar, but on closer inspection, the varieties were countless.

In human society’s Earth, the Amazon Rainforest is said to contain one-fifth of the Earth’s biological species, with plants and birds making up half of the global population. In Dinosaur World, however, the area of forests couldn’t be measured, let alone the amount of life within.

Soon, Yan Fei grew impatient with the darkness in the forest. The darkness alone he could bear, but the key issue was the humidity. Besides, the ground was covered in thick layers of leaves that had accumulated over many years, which was uncomfortable to walk on because under the leaves was rotting foliage, and beneath that, even more decay...

He simply decided to check out the undeveloped gold mine.

After walking around the gold mine, he didn’t know its actual size; he just picked up a few pieces that looked like ore, then he sighed: there were too few laborers!

There were about a hundred people at the base’s ranch now, maintaining its normal operations wasn’t an issue—if there was only the ranch, it wouldn’t need so many people. But since everything needed to be self-sustaining here, food had to be grown, clothes had to be made, and security needed maintenance, this amount of people was just enough.

However, for mining... Yan Fei had never mined before, but he knew without thinking that the ranch’s workforce wouldn’t be sufficient.

Even if there were people to mine, if he couldn’t oversee it every day himself, a large group of guards would still be needed—here, he wasn’t worried about people stealing ore or hiding gold, but those dinosaurs were a concern.

As he was thinking this, he heard a rumbling sound from afar echoing through the night.

The wildlife in the forest was significantly agitated for a while before it gradually calmed down.

Yan Fei looked in the direction of the distant ranch, deeply admiring his own wise and brave decision—the batch of researchers were incredibly useful. Education indeed brought strength. The loud blast just now was from fireworks made by the research institute.

Making gunpowder was not a difficult task. No one had thought of it before, but once someone did, these people were immediately able to create it. It didn’t need any lethal power, just a loud sound was enough. If they could set off fireworks from time to time, the deterrent effect would be quite significant.

After a long thought, there was no immediate solution to the manpower issue. The reason was simple: there was no time to capture laborers. And Boss Yan thought he was quite reasonable, he didn’t want to randomly capture people—of course, that was under the premise that he was not in a hurry to start mining.

Maybe he should do it himself?

With that thought, Yan Fei began to take action.

Speaking of which, he had done many things before, but he had never actually mined!
