Chapter 1385: Chapter 674: Misfortune with the Car, Encounters an Arrest
"Let’s compete not in drinking but in cooking counts me in," said Old Yi, an acquaintance from the city’s Communications Company.
There’s a saying, "Times change, fortunes turn." A few years back, the communications companies weren’t so hot, but now, with the advancement of communication technology, the industry’s prosperity is evident to everyone.
Naturally, as the supervisor in charge, Old Yi was rising with the tide. Unfortunately, the good times did not last long before the rumor started circulating that the communications company might be restructured, and Old Yi had to act quickly. In any case, such news was better believed than ignored.
So after greeting everyone in the room where Yan Fei was, leaving a word that he would come back to toast, he went to take care of his guests.
As he saw off Old Yi, Yan Fei glanced unintentionally into the corridor and spotted an acquaintance. He was about to greet him when he saw the acquaintance acting cautiously, making faces at him, which made him abandon the idea of greeting.
The acquaintance was Lin Baoguo.
Because of this incident, Yan Fei was somewhat distracted during the drinks, constantly listening for any noise outside.
"Younger Brother Yan, it’s your turn. Even if you have a high tolerance, you must continue drinking!" Chairman Dong called out, noticing Yan Fei’s distraction.
Yan Fei snapped back to reality, quickly picked up his glass, "Drink, drink, drink..."
After saying this and finishing his drink, someone next to him was about to encourage more drinking. He looked at the dishes on the table and asked, "Old Brother Liu, have all our dishes been served?"
The relationship around the dining table tightened quickly; as soon as the dishes were complete, despite the nearly thirty-year age gap, everyone started addressing each other as brothers freely.
Director Liu had drunk a bit too much, his face was red and his neck bulging as he squinted and waved his hand, "Don’t worry about that, we can order more if it’s not enough. What’s wrong, Younger Brother Yan, afraid I can’t afford the hospitality?"
Yan Fei laughed and said, "No, no, seeing that all the dishes are here now, we can close the door and drink properly."
"Close the door then, is Younger Brother Yan afraid of showing his true capacity? Don’t move, I’ll do it!" The person sitting by the door staggered to his feet and went to close the slightly ajar door firmly.
Then, Yan Fei lowered his voice, "I just saw an acquaintance, and I’m afraid the hotel might have some issues soon. Let’s stop drinking for now, and continue next time when we have a chance."
"What’s the matter?" Hearing Yan’s words, everyone at the table became alert; even the red-faced Director Liu instantly sobered up.
"I’m not quite sure, the acquaintance I saw works at the station, and he gestured me not to come over to greet him, I suspect there may be an operation going on. We are all innocent people here; just stay in the room and sit tight..." Yan Fei explained with a smile.
Director Liu thought for a moment, "It must be a major operation, otherwise, why would they chose this place?"
"Could be, but it’s none of our business anyway. Once the operation is over, we might even see some action. Let’s just wait for now!" said Yan Fei, smiling.
In fact, based on the bits of information he overheard with his acute hearing, he had already guessed what was happening—that the city was planning to arrest a gang and didn’t want to startle them, so they chose this venue knowing those people were gathering here tonight.
Director Liu’s guess wasn’t wrong; the hotel they were in was newly opened, among the larger establishments in Wan City and bustling with business, indicating the owner had some clout. But the choice of this place for the operation suggested the case was no minor matter.
Yan Fei also considered the possibility of a major operation and, fearing the commotion might get someone hurt if they went out to watch, reminded everyone to stay put.
Seeing as they were all ready and the operation about to start, the people in a room by the staircase were prepared to move in.
The people in the room were not the kind to worry about trouble; it’s not like those countries rife with firearms. What could possibly happen if an operation took place while they stayed behind closed doors? Though their thirst for drinks had waned, they continued to whisper and speculate, waiting for the imminent action.
"Fight, give it all you got, motherfucker, you don’t know who I am..." Suddenly, a shout came from downstairs followed by a mix of cursing and noisy shouting.
Yan Fei’s room was on the second floor near the roadside. Although there were occasional noises in the corridor, it was relatively quiet outside. Since everyone was neither drinking nor making a noise themselves, the sounds from below were particularly clear.
Everyone was startled. What kind of major operation was this? It sounded like people drinking and causing a fight!
More cries of pain followed, and the arrogant voice continued cursing, "You motherfucker, dare to hide? I see you hide... "
Someone else yelled, "You two get lost, do you know who we are? We’re not fighting in the hotel, so mind your own business!"
Soon, there were sounds of bangs and crashes, followed by the alarm of a car going off.
Yan Fei, seeing everyone holding back their curiosity, couldn’t sit still anymore. He went to the window, pushed it open slightly, looked down, and cursed, "Damn it, a bunch of punks fighting and they’ve smashed my car..."
