Chapter 1360: Chapter 662: The Reason for Starting Work_2
Pang Fa, the factory director, had a hard time of it, getting there early to pull in Old Xing and summon the few who had started working at Sancha River earliest, bustling around in the factory.
Yan Fei looked around and saw nothing amiss; everything was spick and span both inside and out. He cheered Pang Fa on a bit more and was ready to head back. But Pang Fa held him back, "Xiao Fei, I’ve got an idea, let me know what you think. What if we moved the main gate to the east side? The road there could easily accommodate large vehicles, and it’s just a few steps away, so it wouldn’t cause any delay."
"Wouldn’t it be better over there? Doesn’t a main gate facing the street look more impressive?" Yan Fei asked.
"Exactly because it faces the street, I think a big gate is a waste. I want to build shop fronts there instead. We use what we can, and rent out what we can’t. It’s another source of income, isn’t it?" Pang Fa explained. "Once we have more products, we can have street-facing shop fronts there. Right, Chen Liqiang is also coming by later. He said over the phone that during the New Year season he designed some new packaging and will come later to discuss it with me!"
"That sounds good, you make the call!" Yan Fei felt it was a decent idea; the location was also close to the busy center of town, so opening shop fronts was a reasonable use of resources. "After all, I’ve left the factory in your hands, so whatever you decide will be fine."
"Don’t rush off yet!" Pang Fa saw that he was preparing to leave and spoke up again. "Chen Liqiang will be here shortly, so stick around and take a look at his new packaging designs."
When Chen Liqiang arrived, the three of them talked business over a meal without any delay. During the New Year, Comrade Xiaoqiang really hadn’t been idle. Previously he hadn’t had the chance to take charge, but he’d been in constant phone communication with Pang Fa, and since Yan Fei had given them quite a lot of autonomy, he was very dedicated.
As they ate, Chen Liqiang began discussing his ideas, pulling out a few sheets of paper: "Our packaging has always been one catty or half a catty, which I think is too monotonous. I’ve got a few ideas. First is to create smaller packets, cheaper in price, appealing to customers who want to try something new. Also, for those wanting to buy for their kids, big and expensive packaging is a drawback, smaller packets would be more suitable."
Children are treasures at home, and modern kids are seen as increasingly precious. Even families in less fortunate circumstances are willing to shell out money for their kids.
"Secondly, we could introduce gift packaging options. Things like luxury packaging or gift sets—are these possible? Nowadays, gift-giving really focuses on packaging, and our products are not inferior. If we create gift box packaging, they won’t be embarrassing to give as gifts. After all, our beef is sold in Hong Kong, and the beef jerky comes from the same cows that supply high-end Hong Kong restaurants."
"Thirdly, I was thinking, since we’re in business, we could employ some promotional strategies. Like ’buy a large packet and get a small one free,’ or ’buy a catty and get an extra tael or two.’ You see clothing stores in the city giving away socks with pants purchases, we could do something similar!"
Chen Liqiang’s mother was in the clothing business, probably where he got some of this inspiration.
"Fourth, I think we could add some variety to our advertising, it shouldn’t just focus on the product being good, we need some gimmicks. Look at those selling food, they hype it up as if it was a panacea."
"Especially those who advertise supplements, claiming they improve school grades—purely because of consuming their product. Those so-called top scorers from rural areas, I don’t believe their families can afford to give them expensive nutrition products every day. Isn’t that all just hot air?"
"Fifthly..."
Yan Fei quickly interrupted him: "Alright, alright, I think what you’ve said sounds good. You two flesh out what needs to be done and just go ahead, don’t skimp on advertising investment. I need to hurry back for the start of construction at home, I’ll take a look myself!"
After rapidly reviewing Chen Liqiang’s plans, Yan Fei felt that bringing this guy onboard was the right move. Always on the move in the city, this fellow had an active mind and his ideas were pretty comprehensive.
He offered a few words of encouragement and, with the reluctant gaze of the two men following him, drove away— if his plans went well, his wife was probably already waiting for him at the site, right?
Upon arriving home, he found that the construction site was already bustling, with many people starting to work. These days, opportunities to make money were hard to come by, so everyone cherished them.
With the start of work, Old Xu assumed his role as the overseer immediately. Naturally, Yan Fei’s goal was also accomplished, his wife had been waiting for him for half the day.
He brought his wife into the office, proudly opened the instant messaging software on the computer, and entered the newly registered username and password. Xu Xiaoyan was already getting impatient and pushed him aside to sit down herself: "Come on, tell me how to use this."
It wasn’t that she was overly eager; from turning on the computer to logging in, it took more than five minutes—the computer was slow, and so was the internet connection.
After Yan Fei spent a minute explaining what he had figured out on how to use the program, he went to the room next door and took another five minutes to boot a second computer and log in. He finally sent a message: "Wife, I miss you! Do you miss me?"
The reply came quickly, just two words: "I do!"
The girl thought this was quite entertaining. After all, sometimes things that were awkward to say face-to-face or even over the phone were easier to type out. Without having to look each other in the eye, it made them dare to say more.
