Chapter 1359: Chapter 662: The Reason for Starting Work

The next day, early in the morning, a large group of people gathered around a few pots of food for breakfast. Few were interested in the meat and fish, but a pot of cold shredded radish was emptied in the blink of an eye. Luo Dahe, the newcomer, was the only one earnestly digging into the meat and fish.

At first, Luo Dahe felt a bit embarrassed, thinking everyone was being modest and leaving the good food for others. Later, he realized that, to the people present, the vegetarian dishes were the ones considered delicious.

Basically, every new worker at the factory went through this phase. They had only heard that life in the factory was good, but only after joining did they understand just how good it was. The people would joke that this way of eating was to test who was not working hard enough—those who managed to maintain their weight were considered hard workers, and anyone who gained weight was definitely slacking off. Once someone became a big fat person, they could be fired.

As the meal was winding down, Yan Fei began assigning tasks, "I see that everyone’s New Year celebrations are pretty much over, how about we start work early? Later, everyone get ready and make calls to ask for opinions. If there are people willing to start early, we can begin work sooner. It doesn’t matter if there are objections, we can wait."

In the past few days, everyone had had their fair share of social commitments and now, with the prosperity of the factory, they all thrived alongside it. Over the New Year, some relatives, who didn’t usually interact much, had started visiting, which was fine once or twice, but no one had the patience for frequent visits.

So, when they heard the boss’s orders about starting work early, no one had objections and immediately began making preparations.

Yan Fei first called Ma Yongming. Boss Ma definitely supported Yan Fei’s decision and agreed immediately—after all, during busy times at the construction team, holidays were usually minimized.

Then, Yan Fei called his grandfather, who, hearing about the immediate restart, sent an uncle out to ask the villagers for their opinion. When they heard about starting work early, they had no objections; everyone agreed that starting work a day earlier meant earning an extra day’s pay, and if life was good, any day could be like celebrating the New Year.

But in the end, his grandfather couldn’t help asking an extra question, "I heard from your mom these past days that you were writing some article. How come you suddenly want to start work early?"

Could Yan Fei admit he wanted to get his future father-in-law to the construction site to work, so he could have a happy world with his wife-to-be? Definitely not.

"Well, you know, the Yellow Cattle festival is coming up? I need to prepare in advance, get the site running normally first, so I’m not tied up then!" Yan Fei’s excuse was absolutely solid, considering no one knew he was just going to be a judge, and he wouldn’t have to worry about anything else.

The real reason was that he had thrown out a sum of money with a flick of his hand, and now, with Chairman Dong leading, a bunch of people were worrying for him, fearing that the publicity for Qaniuhua brand products wouldn’t be strong enough and it would be embarrassing to ask for sponsorship for the next Yellow Cattle festival.

After making up an excuse, he prepared to drive his parents and younger brother to the county town—production at the fertilizer factory typically started early, and now that Yan Fei’s mother had become a small leader in the production workshop, just like Yan Wenhai, it wouldn’t be appropriate to ask for leave to start work late.

It actually wasn’t too early, as it was also back-to-school time for students in Sancha River Township.

Yan Chao was holding the Tibetan Mastiff that had kept him company during the entire New Year, crying as if he was made of tears. In the past, distractions of tasty and fun things could shift his focus, but not this time. The chubby, furry little dog really was quite endearing, even Lin Xiumei felt reluctant to part with it.

Seeing his younger brother’s heartbroken state became a bit too much for the elder brother, who then suggested to his parents, "How about we buy a yard and take the dog there?"

Yan Wenhai immediately objected, "Is this how you spoil your brother? If he can’t part with the puppy, should we buy a yard? What if next time your tiger has cubs and he wants to play with them? Are we supposed to buy an even bigger yard and hire two people to help feed the tiger?"

Lin Xiumei was already struggling internally and trying to persuade her younger son; hearing this father-son exchange, she looked up and glared at Yan Wenhai, "What’s wrong? Is a son caring for his brother a mistake now? Even if we switch to a bigger yard, so what? It’s not like we can’t afford it."

Buying a couple of houses in the county town was no different from buying two pounds of cabbage on the market for Yan Fei at this point. But Lin Xiumei’s words were just an expression of her irritation with Yan Wenhai. As soon as she finished speaking, she turned to Yan Fei and said something completely different, "Buy what house? Staying in the family members’ yard is much better; everyone knows each other, and it’s convenient. Besides, your father and I have work during the day, Xiaochao has to go to school, and if we really got a dog, we wouldn’t have time to take care of it. Let’s just leave it here!"

Yan Fei didn’t mind either way; buying the house could happen anytime, and it would be fine to wait until his parents changed their minds. But Yan Wenhai’s words did remind him, and he said to his brother, "Xiaochao, listen and go back now. In a few days when you come back, we’ll have a baby tiger for you to play with. How about that?"

Unexpectedly, the little fellow, still holding the puppy, negotiated, "Next time can I bring the puppy back to play with the baby tiger?"

This infuriated Lin Xiumei who finally decided to forcefully take them away.

After a great deal of fuss, they finally managed to trick the little guy into the car and drove off.

Once Yan Fei had dropped off his family, he drove around the county town to see Fifth Brother and a few friends, then he headed to the Meat Processing Factory.
