Carlotta's Daily Report
Chapter 46: Case Closed

Chapter 46: Case Closed

Courage is an indispensable element in a battle. When a person loses their courage, they naturally cannot display their full potential.

Ulric was never a match for Carlotta to begin with. When fear arose in his heart as he faced her, the outcome of the battle was already clear.

The two did not clash for long before Carlotta used her Elven Phantom Sound to confuse Ulric’s senses, causing him to misjudge the trajectory of her attack. She then swiftly thrust her sword into Ulric’s heart.

As the Rose Cross tore through the burly man’s muscles, the intense pain elicited a piercing scream from Ulric that echoed throughout the entire street.

Bram, who was still patting out the flames on his body, turned towards the sound. It felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, leaving him chilled to the bone.

Garran was dead, Ulric was dead, and now only he remained.

Seeing Carlotta turn back towards him without hesitation, Bram couldn’t help but say, "Wait, do we really need to—"

Before Bram could finish, Carlotta’s flaming sword was already pointed at his head.

The blazing flames danced, forcing all the words Bram wanted to say back down his throat.

This left Bram feeling extremely frustrated.

He felt that even if their sudden ambush had enraged Carlotta, her reaction was still too decisive and somewhat unreasonable.

She shouldn’t know them, so shouldn’t she be curious about why they attacked?

Bram wanted to say something, but he couldn’t.

He was forced to engage with Carlotta, their clashing weapons echoing through the street.

Carlotta grew more ferocious and wild with each strike. The Rose Cross her hand bloomed like a fiery rose, leaving Bram almost completely defenseless.

Even with the help of Ulric and Garran, Bram was no match for Carlotta. How could he possibly stand a chance alone now?

Carlotta added wound after wound to Bram’s body, the searing pain distorting his expression.

By now, Bram no longer wanted to continue the fight and thought of fleeing. But how could Carlotta possibly give him the chance to escape?

Her attacks were like fire, capable of burning down the entire field!

"The security bureau is coming!"

Suddenly, a shout came from the distance.

This seemed to act as a catalyst, intensifying the ferocity in Carlotta’s eyes.

Gripping the Rose Cross tightly, she slashed forward with an unstoppable force, knocking aside Bram’s short sword and cutting deep into his right shoulder.

With a sharp diagonal slash, she tore through his left waist, cleaving the man who had threatened her for days in half on the spot.

In the next instant, crimson blood sprayed out, staining large swathes of the street red.

"Stop!"

Only then did a group of people in matching blue and white uniforms quickly arrive, surrounding Carlotta.

They were the security bureau!

"Committing murder in broad daylight? How audacious," a young man stepped forward, glaring at Carlotta.

He was about to order his men to take Carlotta away when she spoke up: "I am a student of Caerwyn Academy. I have an appointment with the daughters of Viscount Fenwick, Viscount O’Connor, and Baron Ackerman to buy ice cream. Who would have thought I’d be attacked on the way? I am the victim here, acting in self-defense."

The young man, Gavin Fanello, the squad leader of the security bureau, immediately swallowed the words he was about to say.

He could see that Carlotta was indeed a student of Caerwyn Academy, she was still wearing the uniform, but the fact that she had an appointment with three noble ladies made him hesitant to act rashly.

Looking at Carlotta, Gavin was momentarily at a loss on how to handle the situation.

Carlotta smiled slightly and said, "Could you help me send a message to the three ladies, informing them that I encountered an accident on the way? Would that be alright?"

Gavin gave Carlotta a deep look and nodded, "No problem."

What followed was straightforward.

Carlotta didn’t have to wait long before Amelia, Camella, and Doris arrived on the scene.

Seeing the bloody scene on the street, Camella and Doris turned pale.

Amelia, however, remained composed. She approached Carlotta and asked in a low voice, "What happened? I heard you killed five people in the street. You wouldn’t do something like this without reason."

Carlotta then explained, "I don’t know them. They suddenly attacked me. I suspect they are assassins because they mentioned the surname ’Dias’ during the fight. Bernard Dias, who had a conflict with me before, has parents who work in the city hall. I wonder if they held a grudge and hired these assassins to kill me."

Of course, none of Bram’s group had mentioned the surname ’Dias,’ but with them dead, Carlotta could say whatever she wanted.

Now that she knew about the Dias couple’s underhanded actions, Carlotta would never let them escape unscathed from this incident.

Amelia was slightly surprised. She knew about the conflict between Carlotta and Bernard, who had lost his legs in a duel.

Doris, who had overheard their conversation, walked over and said, "This is easy to verify. Just arrest the Dias couple and interrogate them... and search the bodies of these dead men. We’ll find something."

Camella covered her nose and mouth, glaring at Squad Leader Gavin, "What are you all standing around for? Didn’t you hear us? Get to work!"

"Yes, ma’am."

Gavin snapped out of his thoughts and quickly directed the security bureau. He sent one to the constabulary to report the situation and instructed others to arrest the Dias couple. The rest began searching the scene.

During the search, they found ship tickets on the bodies of Bram and his companions.

"Ship tickets with no fixed departure date, allowing boarding at any time? These aren’t something ordinary people can get their hands on, unless someone inside..." Gavin muttered, now somewhat convinced by Carlotta’s story.

These people were likely assassins, and the tickets were meant for their escape after the job. It seemed they had underestimated their target’s strength.

Before Amelia and the others arrived, Gavin had also sent someone to question the onlookers, gaining a rough understanding of the assassins’ and Carlotta’s levels. This made him glance at Carlotta a couple of times.

How could a third-tier apprentice be so formidable?

"What are you looking at? Slacking off, are you?" Camella’s sharp eyes immediately caught Gavin’s actions.

Seeing the noble lady’s gaze on him, Gavin quickly replied, "No, no, I was just marveling at Miss White’s strength. Her opponents included at least three fifth-tier apprentices."

Hearing Gavin’s words, Camella couldn’t help but show a strange expression on her face.

Three fifth-level apprentices?

Such a lineup, and they were all killed by Carlotta in the street? Was this really the Carlotta she knew?

Camella couldn’t help but glance at Carlotta, thinking of her profound understanding of the Elven Knight Path. Suddenly, it didn’t seem impossible for her to have done such a thing.

Naturally, Amelia and Doris also heard Gavin’s words, and their expressions turned peculiar as well.

"It was just luck, and these self-taught transcendents are far inferior to our academy-trained ones," Carlotta said modestly.

She wasn’t just making this up. When Amelia had used the power of a fifth-level apprentice, even with the Elven Knight Path, it had given her a feeling of being much stronger than these people.

"Regardless, today’s events will undoubtedly be a shining achievement for you, Miss White," Doris sighed.

Before today, she had thought Carlotta was more of a theorist. She hadn’t expected her to be so remarkable in actual combat.

They stood on the street chatting for a while until the security bureau officers finished dealing with the bodies on the ground. Then they all left together and headed to the Security bureau office’s branch in the Spice District.

When they arrived at the police station, other officers had already gone to the city hall to arrest the couple, Lucius Dias and Jemima Dias, and had even conducted some interrogations.

This pair of civil servants turned pale with fear when they learned that Bram and the others had been completely wiped out.

They weren’t brave people at all, and under the strict interrogation of the police, they confessed everything.

So, as soon as Carlotta arrived at the police station, she was informed that the case could already be concluded. It was indeed the Dias couple who had hired the assassins.

As for the fact that Bram and the others had intended to attack Carlotta on their own, that was destined to remain unknown. Everyone would only see this as a conflict instigated by the Dias couple.

Since the case had been concluded, Carlotta didn’t stay long at the police station. She didn’t even see the Dias couple, just left some statements, and then returned to the academy.

On the way back, Amelia said to Carlotta, "Now that the case has been settled, the Dias couple will undoubtedly lose their jobs and spend a considerable amount of time in prison. However, Bernard Dias won’t be affected. When he learns about his parents’ situation, he’ll likely hold a grudge against you, so you should be careful."

"I understand," Carlotta nodded.

Although Bernard had been instantly defeated by her at the same level, that wasn’t his true level. As a third-tier apprentice, Bernard’s actual tier had already reached the sixth tier.

Of course, even if it were a sixth-tier apprentice, Carlotta wouldn’t be worried in a direct confrontation, but she still had to be cautious of any underhanded tactics. She couldn’t let her guard down.

After entering the academy, they all went their separate ways, and no one mentioned the ice cream again.

Back in her dorm, Carlotta reflected on the recent events and felt that everything had gone relatively smoothly, almost exactly as she had envisioned.

The threat from Bram and his gang had been permanently eliminated.

"The only issue is that perhaps I should have used Rose Thorn at that time."

Carlotta took out Rose Cross to inspect it.

After the battle had ended, she had used the Water Gathering Card to summon a stream of water to extinguish the flames on Rose Cross’s blade, then shrank it and returned it to her necklace.

Now, looking at Rose Cross, Carlotta noticed that the surface of this high-quality alchemical tool was covered in scorch marks, no longer as beautiful as before, which gave her a bit of a headache.

She took it to the bathroom and gave it a quick wash, but the effect wasn’t great. The quality of Rose Cross seemed to have been significantly affected by the previous method of attack.

Perhaps she should find an alchemist to help repair Rose Cross?

Carlotta was quite fond of this weapon and couldn’t help but think about whom she should approach.

Not long after, Carlotta received a letter from Clorinde Austin, expressing concern for the events she had experienced today. Clorinde then stated that regardless of the original sentence for the Dias couple, she would ensure that their prison time would be significantly extended.

Regarding this matter, the lady from the Austin Chamber of Commerce was undoubtedly very displeased, even angry.

She had previously warned the Dias couple, but they had ignored her warning and hired assassins to deal with Carlotta.

This was clearly a disregard for her warning, a trampling of her authority, and she naturally wanted to make the Dias couple understand the consequences of ignoring her warning.

Reading Clorinde’s letter, Carlotta felt a secret thrill. What could be more satisfying than seeing one’s enemies suffer?

She immediately wrote back to thank Clorinde for her help and then handed the letter to the messenger.

Coincidentally, while she was delivering the letter, she saw her classmate Avery Clarke also coming to deliver a letter.

When their eyes met, Avery couldn’t help but show a subtle expression in her eyes.

"Miss White, you’re really... impressive, taking out several assassins in the street," Avery couldn’t help but exclaim.

Carlotta hadn’t expected Avery to bring this up and was surprised. "Has this already spread throughout the academy?"

"Not exactly, but my sources of information are different from others. I can know things that others don’t," Avery smiled slightly.

Her family was also involved in business. Although they couldn’t compare to the six major chambers of commerce, they were still quite significant and indeed had some special channels.

Carlotta understood and then modestly attributed it all to luck.

After the pleasantries, Carlotta had a thought and took off the Rose Cross from her necklace, asking Avery, "Miss Clarke, if I were to repair this alchemical tool, how much would it cost?"

Avery glanced at it and said, "The damage isn’t severe. Just go to any alchemy workshop, and it should cost around 1000 Orrae to repair."

Carlotta understood and then thanked Avery.

In the imperial capital Kestholm, the five major alchemy workshops were the most famous.

Besides them, there were also many smaller workshops. Although they were called small workshops, those that could survive for a long time in the capital wouldn’t have low standards either.

Seeing that it was still early, Carlotta decided to leave the academy. She remembered that there was an alchemy workshop near Caerwyn Academy and planned to go there to repair Rose Cross.
