Chapter 166: Chapter 178: Redouble Efforts, Tenfold Return (3)

Isabel Smith was holding the teapot, standing on the floor of the bedroom, and couldn’t help but be lost in thought.

After a while, Percy Stanton’s footsteps sounded outside the bedroom door. Isabel quickly put the teapot back in its original place, raised her hand to smooth her long hair, and saw Percy walking in with a cup of hot milk in his hand.

Percy frowned at Isabel, standing on the floor, and asked – somewhat annoyed, "Why did you come out?"

Isabel Smith awkwardly dodged Percy’s gaze and muttered an excuse: "I feel a bit uncomfortable and want to take a bath."

As she said this, her eyes drifted, unintentionally sweeping over the ceiling lamp. Because of her voice, several softened to a warm yellow glow.

Isabel stared at the lamp light, suddenly frozen in place.

Percy calmly handed her the hot milk: "Drink the milk, and I’ll run a hot bath for you. It’ll make you feel better."

Isabel snapped back to attention, pulling her gaze away, and quickly reached for the milk. Percy then turned and walked to the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water could be heard.

Isabel hugged the milk but didn’t drink it. Instead, she felt the warmth of the milk travel from her palms to the depths of her heart.

She looked up at the voice-activated lights still on the ceiling, the new plastic tea set on the table, and the soft carpet underfoot. A strange emotion suddenly welled up in her heart, and her fingers even began to tremble rapidly around the milk cup.

Only she and Percy had a key to the apartment.

And if it wasn’t her who made these changes, it must have been Percy.

Last night, he stayed here, holding her as they slept. When he arrived, she had fallen, and today after she left and returned, there had been subtle changes inside the apartment.

A carpet, a tea set, some voice-activated lights.

These things didn’t have the same shock value as the 9,999 roses from the men who once pursued her, the gorgeous clothes they gifted her, the expensive jewelry, nor the surprises they’d carefully prepared for her.

Yet, these items touched her heart, making her feel an inexplicable warmth at that moment after such turmoil.

Once, her life was surrounded by countless warmth and indulgence, but six years ago, it all disappeared, as if it was a dream.

Her life turned a full 180 degrees, and since then, warmth and care became strangers to her.

She always thought they would never meet again, but now...

This man named Percy Stanton, who signed a contract with her as her "Golden Master", had given her warmth and care?

It’s somewhat funny; the past Isabel would never have valued a carpet, a tea set, some voice-activated lights, nor the inexpensive red flower oil...

But for this Isabel, these items were the first warmth she encountered after six years of barrenness.

This man had a level of attentiveness she had never seen before. So attentive it made her hair stand on end, so attentive that her wounded heart – which she thought would never beat for someone again – miraculously raced...

Isabel clenched the milk cup tightly, trying her best to calm her heartbeat. But the more she suppressed it, the more she felt her heart pounding, even permeating with a warm, astringent sensation...
